Strength:
I really can't think of any.
Weakness:
too numerous to mention. this car is piece of junk. The engine has leaked oil since the first year that I owned the car. Dealer repaired this junk under the warranty but the fix only lasted two years then it began agian. When I brought it back they told me it was going to cost another $2,000.00 to fix it agian???? Last week I had to replace the master cylinder to the toon of another $500.00 and have had other nagging repairsthat pop up every month or so. Keep in mind that this vehicle only has 45,000 on it. What a Junk! Next car for me will be a lexus.... Similar Products Used: olds toronado |

Weakness:
Most recent problem has been transmission. GM Service department in Roseville Auto Mall CA diagnosed as needing new wires and plugs. Charged $720 as "Genuine GM Labor and Parts were used". Service had no impact on problem and delear now suggests new transmission for $3200. When it runs a very good car to drive but similar experience as many others, frequent failures and expensive to fix. It appears problems are complex to diagnosis, service departments don't know how to fix or combination of. |

Aurora
Strength:
This car has excellent road manners, acceleration and comfort (especially the seats). Exemplifies V-8 smoothness and power. The Aurora retains stability and ease of handling even at top speeds. I get 25.3mpg highway and ~22.5 city. Good transmission response. It has a high quality feel to all parts. Enjoyable to drive, and iviites the driver to take a laid-back one hand approach.
Weakness:
Weaknesses include a high rear deck which impedes some visibility, and overall complexity of mechanical systems. I have not encountered any major problems, but would expect to pay a premium for any repairs. However, it is a premium vehicle. I believe that the Aurora has poor resale - probably due in large part to a lack of recognition and mismanagement of the brand. I purchased a 98 Aurora with 60,000 miles and drive it approximately 500 miles per week. Love the car - nothing compares dollar per dollar except possibly an Eldorado. The Aurora has personality, both inside and out. I believe it is also quite safe - has nearly a 4,000 lb curb weight. This is a good car to do a lot of driving in. It allows the driver to relax and "let the car do the work". Every aspect of the car exudes thoughtful design and attention to detail. It is a great value for someone who wants all of the ammenities Similar Products Used: I am very familiar with Bonnevilles, Regals, and Grand Prixs of the same vintage. |

Very luxurious car, well engineered, nice style, comfortable, may built in ammenities.
Weakness:
Way to many problems and have been told that the "Cadillac Nortstar Engine" has some major problems and if you repair one of them then another will soon follow. Have been told that this will NOT be found in Consumer Reports or elsewhere! Forewarned is Forearmed! Purchased a used '97, Aurora with about 54K miles on it. Have had it for about 2 years and still owe on 3. Blew a head gasket and can't find a single mechanic that will be willing to work on the "Cadillac Northstar Engine". A used engine is $3,800.00 installed and a new engine is $7,000.00 installed. Luckily the multifuntional directionals went within our 30 day warranty as this would of been $600.00 right off the bat! I would HIGHLY recommend that anyone purchasing one of these USED vehicles by the extended warranty, it'll save you thousands of dollars in repairs. It's an incredible automobile when it's running! Buyer Beware, Norman R. Lamoureux Similar Products Used: Pontiac Pheonix, was a piece of junk and also have a '95, Dodge Dakota, and will now look at Japanese cars! |

Strength:
Love the cars power and comfort
Weakness:
Very expensive to repair and most parts have to come from the manufacture I really like the car. I met someone recently that has a 95 Aurora and just put in a used transmission. I was bragginbg how well my car ran. I do not brag now. My transmission is going to cost $3200 to rebuild. I see others with the same problem. Is this a fault in this car? Looks of car, car drives great (when not in the shop), all the gidgets and gadgets, heated seats, automatic windows, door locks, etc.
Weakness:
cost of repairs, finding a quality dealership to repair all the disposable parts to this car, and dependability This is the first Oldsmobile I have ever owned. I guantee it will be the last. Yes, I bought the car used, with 80,000 miles on it, I had the warranty 12,000 or 12 months and used it to the maximum to include replacing the transmission with only 80 miles left on warranty, however, the car has 120,000 miles on it now and things I have replaced within the last 20,000 are having to be replaced a second time (break booster and master cylinder)all repairs are outrageous as you either have to drop the transmission or the engine to get to anything......If you want to hear all the things I have replaced in more detail email me at ronnacooper@yahoo.com Similar Products Used: ******After all the time, money, and energy wasted in this car, I bought a 2001 S-type Jaguar, Check out the prices, you would be surprised how affordable they really are, expecially if they aren't in |

Strength:
Looks, feels, and performs well above average.
Weakness:
Slightly higher maintanance costs. Very happy with the car. Looks, feels, and performs the way Olds Aurora should. New body style and interior changes on 2002 make me wonder who they were trying to appeal to (it wasn't me). The car does cost more to maintain but that is to be expected with this class of car. My wife and I are very pleased with our Aurora and would recomend this vehical to anyone, just remember you'll pay a little more in maintanance costs (it's well worth it). bumper to bumper INSTEAD OF WRITING THE REVIEW I WILL SIMPLY POST THE LETTER I SENT TO GM CUSTOMER SATIFACTION CENTER May 17, 2002 To Customer Satisfaction Department, I am writing this letter to convey my frustration with a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora purchased from a General Motors dealership in Windsor, Ontario. As a loyal General Motors customer since the purchase of my first vehicle and dedicated client of Dane Kane Chevrolet – Oldsmobile – Cadillac for over ten years, I assumed this patronage would have earned a compassionate ear to the long list of problems I have had with my Aurora. I have never made frivolous claims and have been very content with every GM vehicle I purchased. I referred countless friends, relatives and business associates to Dane Kane, many of which have purchased vehicles. I am now left with the unfortunate decision of ending my relationship with Dane Kane and possibly moving to a new brand of vehicle built by a manufacturer that holds customer satisfaction in high regard. First I will list the problems I have had with my 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora so that you may better understand the frustration I feel and describe the final incident the that led me to write this letter. First the problems. . . . 1) Within the first couple of days after receiving the Aurora all the coolant leaked out. I brought the vehicle into service and someone from the service department topped up the fluid and sent me on my way without determining the cause of the leak. The following day I had to bring in the vehicle for service after the coolant leaked out again. This time they determined the cause to be a loose clamp. 2) Within first 2 months 3 of my fog lights burnt out. The right rear door was out severely out of alignment and had to be adjusted because it would not close properly. 3) The right side mirror refused to reposition properly after parallel parking which has never been properly repaired so I have disabled the feature. 4) My display malfunctioned and displayed garbled information on the LED and the computer had to be reset twice since the vehicle purchase. 5) The front head lights on the vehicle shutter on and off. I really notice it when traveling on dark county roads. I was told that they could find nothing wrong. I have to avoid taking certain poorly lit roads to during the evening. 6) Very poor transmission. The car jerks after you reverse vehi |

Weakness:
Little bumpy on rough surfaces. I was prompted to look at the Aurora because I have '53 Olds and always liked to "classic" Aurora. After shopping many car makes, I came down to the LS and the Aurora. I would not buy Japanese and the Germans are out of their mind on prices with options. After driving the V* models of both makes, I like the LS better but it was a poor car with children because of its smaller interior and lack of storage. After a cost analysis, I was able to but the V8 Aurora for $80 a month less than the LS. Easy decision! My wife drives the car and will not admit to me how much she likes it. However, her sisters talk about her possessiveness towards the car. I love it. I agree with one of the reviews I read that I find I'm always letting off the gas. The car just wants to keep going.Love the looks, comfort, individuality, performance, handling etc. Only complaint is a little rough ride on bumpy roads. Had one minor problem with the idle that was fixed correctly the first time as they had to perform a relearn on the crank sensor. This appears to be a sporatic problem with the car that has been identified by a service bulletin. I recommend the car to anyone. From my research, it appears those who claim to have trouble with these cars are the ones who beat them. I'm trying to save enough money to buy a 2003 for me; hopefully one of the final 500 special editions. Feel free to email me for further comments. |
