Strength:

comfortable and roomy cruising, smooth and quiet, large trunk, reliable and carefree operation.

Weakness:

High-beams give very little additional light. Leather upholstery is stiff and lower quality than in previous Lincolns. No 'oomph' from a stoplight.

Price in the mid-30s. Certainly would recommend it for a traditional driver who wants reliable and comfortable travel. There are very few real faults, just several mentioned that can be improved upon. Perhaps the dual-exhaust higher H.P. model would help get it moving faster from a stoplight, but it certainly couldn't ever be a drag racer. Lincoln might in the next year's model put in the 300H.P. engine from their SUV and touch up some of the small shortcomings to make it a full "5".

Compares very favorably especially to front-wheel drive cars.

Strength:

Power to spare! Wonderfully responsive. All the luxury you could want with the driving tendencies of a higher priced foreign model.

Weakness:

Butt ugly woodgrained dash. Low roofline cuts vision of overhead stoplights. Quality is not what it should be, and can Ford please move the ignition switch so I don't have to crane my neck to insert the key?

I've owned three Lincolns, and this is the best one by far! What a driver's car. Just step on the throttle and whoosh! Not a stoplight runner, but really ticks away the miles on the highway.
If you're looking for the plush "banker" Town Car, you'll be disappointed. I find this car much "cozier" than the previous, boxy model. The roofline is a little too raked back for my liking and the moonroof, when open, makes a humming noise from 35 to 45 MPH. But other than that, it's a great car.

Great ride, as good as my previous '90 Towncar on which I put 175K miles. Good handling in the snow w/PosiTrack and ABS. Engine could use a few more horses, but an honest 26 mpg on the road (70 mph) is nothing to complain about. Smooth engine and smooth transmission shifting. Love the CD changer/radio, the sunroof, and the heated-smart seats. We have added remote starting and keyless entry.

Weakness:

Interior is smaller than the '90-'97 style car and my right knee now touches the open ashtray(drink holder). What happened to the soft closing trunk mechanism ? Also miss the keypad entry system of the last TC.

We are well satisfied with this Lincoln and will probably keep it for another 10+ years. (as we did the last '90 TC) I only changed cars to get a more modern styling - the last Lincoln T/C was almost perfect when we sold it.

Lincolns have a high depreciation rate (when compared to some of the foreign imports) - so buying a 1 or 2 year old model makes great economic sense. ($37,000 MSRP sold for $21,000 at two years with 30K miles) Especially if you plan on keeping the car for another 5 to 10 years. None of the Lincoln T/Cs I have owned have had a rusting problem and generally look great(although parked outdoors.

Even at 10 years old, this car drives like it just came out of the showroom. I was fortunate enough to purchase this car from the Orig owner, who was a maintenence fanatic.

Weakness:

Around town MPG is killing me, since we in Calf are now paying $2.25 per gallon.

I love this car and hope to have it for a long time as a second vehicle. I had to have the AC charged with about a lb of freon, and the meters on the machine show that the compressor needle indicator vibrates a little meaning that it does not hold stable pressure, The mechanic says that it could go in a year, or in 3 years, and living in the desert you can't be without it. A new compressor installed would be around 1000.00 dollars. OUCH! if anyone has any info or ideas on this, please feel free to email me. Or about any other info you could share on this year and model.

This car is a complete pile of junk. It has the weakest engine, costs way to much, and has a horrible ride quality. For the price I paid, I still got a Daewoo quality car.

I'm in love. I'll never go back to another lesser car. Has over 225,000 miles and is in mint condition. Engine is strong. Plenty of acceleration and rides likes she's on air. This car drives itself. Great sound system, handling, breaking and comfort.

Strength:

good power and descent gas milage considering the size of the car...feels safe driving in traffic too!

Weakness:

the leather seats have a ton of nooks and crannies to hold crumbs and sand and dirt....especially if you like to keep a clean car as i do

I bought this lincoln used and have had a good experience with this car. I now have a problem with my air suspension that i read goes bad at about 70k miles and requires new air suspension shocks and a new compressor to inflate the shocks. This is a pricey repair at most dealerships but i found a co. on the net that sells the parts for alot less. I plan on replacing the parts myself. At about 50k it began missing and a new set of plug wires handles that problem. The best experience was with the dealership...it is the best dealer i have ever been to...excellant people to deal with! I would buy another one! Anyone having any info on changing the air suspension that reads this would be greatly appreciated.

My Dad keeps wantin to "trade" cars for the day!!!

Well,I can't say enough about this car.I went from an 86 Town Car to this.Car has NO rust ANYWHERE.Has 110,000 miles on it,and runs, drives, and looks like I just drove it out of the showroom. And FINALLY,a car that rides like a marshmellow AND handles like a sports car.And WOW,what accelleration. Is this REALLY a Lincoln? My Dad was very upset when he drove this car.He just paid 16grand for an ElDorado, and he said my Lincoln rode a hundred times better. He said he felt more comfortable and in control of the Lincoln. He also questioned if his Northstar engine was really peppier than the Lincoln,or just made more noise!!!I never say "when are they gonna fix these roads" anymore!! P.S. 110,000miles & NO squeaks or rattles. That's amazing in itself. When I purchased this car,I had also test drove a 95 Caddy Sedan DeVille.I had to hang on the steering wheel to turn it,and rode like a Corvette. Not what i'd call a luxury car. Also felt clostrophobic in the Caddy. When I test drove the Lincoln,I drove it to the bank, and returned with the cash!!!

Strength:

-fairly comfortable
-very good engine
-nice interior

Weakness:

-woefull steering, handling
-floaty ride
-cheap feel

I rented this car for a wwek long visit to L.A. and San Diego. I put about 1000 miles on it. It was brand new with 3 miles on it when I got it.

I was impressed with the engine. It was very smooth with lots of torque. The interior was pleasant with leather and wood and a good dash with all of the features you would want and expect. Interior space was copius and outward visibility was good. The seats were decent but not nearly as good as my wifes BMW(2000 528i wagon).

The ride was pretty smooth but did not feel isolated like the BMW. No jarring, but you felt the road.

The handling was very floaty. This car does not have any dampening to the suspension. Also, super light steering made it somewhat difficult to hold a line through a sweeping high speed turn(highway exits, interchanges), or holding a straight line. While nice for around town driving, I found the steering sorely inadequate for anything else. Reminiscent of driving a boat.

Trunk space was less than I expected with a spare tire taking up much of it. But still a fairly generous space.

The feel of the car(opening and closing the door and trunk, operating the features, etc.) was nowhere near the BMW. The BMW feels so solid and the Lincoln felt flimsy.

Overall the Town Car falls far short of the standard set by BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, and Infinity, all of which I have driven. While I kind of enjoyed my time with the car(like a week of boating), There are light years between it and the BMW 5, and 7 series, Mercedes E and S class, Audi A6 and A8, Lexus, Infinity, and even cars like the VW passat(the best value out there).
