Strength:

Handeling - straight as an arrow on the highway and corners like it's on rails. The V8 is great. The reserved styling is beautiful. The seats are awsome. Put all this together and the car just eats the miles up. You can drive for 3 -4 hrs and you feel like you just went around the block.

Weakness:

I just hated to pay that much for an automobile. Wish it had a navagation system. The new optional body panels should have just been made part of the Sport package.

The room of a 7 series BMW. The performance of a 5 series and less expensive than a similarly equiped 3 series. The best everyday car I have ever owned. The other reviewers that complained about the few problems should have read the TSBs and they would have been better able to deal with their service depts. There is a fix for the rear window regulators. Can't fault Lincoln. The original supplier is the same one Mercedies and BMW uses. I'd buy another LS in a hartbeat.

Strength:

I leased the model with the V8 engine which was a great choice it handles well, the pick-up is fast and the car delivers a classy look along with the fast response. While I have seen quite a few on the road because I live in the "Motor City" and only a few miles from Dearborn when I have traveled to other states my car is very much distinctive, however, even at home in Detroit I still think mine looks the best. The car has plenty of room and the heated seats heat to a perfect setting I have noticed on other vehicles that the seat gets so hot you think you are on fire. The 6-CD changer is very conveniently located in the dash and the various steering wheel applications that allow you to mute the sound system, change radio stations, volume and CD's are value added for the consumer.

Weakness:

I have the rain responsive wiper blades, however, they are slow to respond. The engine has a small clinking sound when accelerated from 30-40, however after that it is smooth sailing. I believe that the interior dash and wooded area could be more substantial and I think the instrument panel could be upgrade to be comparable to the cost of the vehicle.

Overall this is one of the best Ford or Lincoln vehicles that I have driven. My family is 3 generations of Ford employees (grandfather(s), father, mother, and husband is Ford Credit employee. I have driven a lot of Ford family automobiles from the Escort, Tracer, Cougar both models, Explorer(s), F-150,etc. and I find this the most enjoyable vehicle I have ever driven. I have leased my last 3 vehicles but the LS is the only vehicle I have ever considered purchasing or either leasing for a second time.

Strength:

Looks. Free maintenance & Roadside assistance, ( which I have had to use 3 times)

Weakness:

In a little over a year I have had two accidents (one month apart) which were caused by mechanical problems with the car. In the first accident the car slipped out of park and rolled accross a street hitting a building. In the second accident the accelerator went right to the floor(I was at a full stop in a parking garage and had just begun to accelerate) and stuck there until the car stopped after hitting a parked car. This while I had both feet on the foot brake desparately trying to stop the car. I was never more terrified in my life. On both occasions I had the car towed back to Rodman Lincoln where they looked it over and said they found no problems. I am very unhappy with the dealers response to my problem. The dealer claimed there was no problem and refused to take any responsibility for the malfunction. I have seen this same malfunction reported on the NHSTA site by a number of other drivers and there is a Bulletin from Lincoln about the throttle linkage sticking but they said mine would not stick while they had it. This has ruined what was a pleasant experince up to this point. I don't like the way the doors lock automatically after a very short time. I have gotten loc

I have owned the car for over a year. It has about 16,0000 miles on it.The car is always an attention getter. It is a very pretty car. I was enticed to buy it by the 0% interest offered and the generally good reviews I have seen on the 2001 and newer LSs. I like the larger chrome wheels. The ride is a little stiff.

Weakness:

Rear window repairs - 8 Headlight Seals replaced - 3 Please e-mail me if you have had the same problems. My car has suffered extensive weather damage due to defective rear window systems and I am strongly considering legal action against Lincoln as they deny any knowledge of factory defects. Please e-mail me if you are having alike problems and would consider a class action suit. (toddf@moodyint.com)

Model Reviewed: Lincoln LS V6 Sport manual

Strength:

By order of preference: the sport package that bring the driving, the handling and stability on the road; the Getrag 5 speeds manual transmission; The Advance Trac when driving in snowy conditions; the convenience package that bring all the electronic controls and gadget that makes up the American luxury! All inclusive maintenance for 4 years and courtesy car complementary. Except for a CD eaten by the CD changer, I have no problem to report. I do appreciate the most of the car electronic toys included: automatic light, rain sensor, wiper de-icers, radio control on the steering wheel and the two driver memory setting for the seats, mirror etc

Weakness:

The interior design still show some American lousiness in some areas… bizarre hand bake position, leg room is limited somehow on the driver side. The rain sensitive wipers are too slow to react, the in-dash instruments ( mph, rpm, etc) have a suspicious ordinary taurus look!

When I needed to replace my car, I hesitated between buying another mid site ordirary car or treat myself and go for a luxury one. One thing I new for sure was that it had to be one with a manual transmission. With the second vehicule at home an automatic mini-van, we concluded that an automatic transmission got our driving very boring. With this single requirement, I started shopping using web sites like carpoint and auto123. The typical european car showed up along with the Lincoln LS. At first, that made me laugh a little bit. I was not familiar with the LS and thaught it was not for my kind of driver. So I started evaluating the various descriptions and technical specification of the model selected. Oddly enough, at that time, no japanese car showed up in the list. They are focusing on automatic transmission and tip tronic alike. I later refined the search by including a price component. My objective was to select a car that was leased for under $700/month. I went and tried many european car, the BMW turned me off when I notice that the BMW 3 dash equipement had the same look as in 91 when I lived in Europe!!! The Mercedes C had a definitely more modern look with all my preferred option with many of them as an option. The Audi was a very interesting option. The Quattro thing was a definite plus in the Montreal snow, but the leg room on the back seat is ridiculous. That’s when I start paying attention to the Lincol LS. It included a reasonable list of equipment complimented with the sport package( better suspension, 17in. weels etc…) and the commodity package( most electrical buttons!) still met the budget objectives. I went for a road test but unfortunately, I couldn’t try a manual one. We went for a ride with a tiptronic one. This car was definitely the roomiest I very good seating etc… but frankly, the tiptronic transmission was a real turn off. There was an annoying delay between the shifts and it response from the car and sorry guys but this remains daddy’ old automatic transmission. That last road test left me with no real exciting option in front of me. That was until one month later when a friend told me that a Lincoln dealer near the office had a manual LS is its showroom with the right options. Wow, that second ride was something: the Getrag transmission was smooth to manipulate both up or down shifting. While being smooth, y

Strength:

Rear wheel drive balance and handling, confort, crash rating, side air bags, good performance. Very responsive transmission and engine.

Weakness:

Some noise at 100 KM per hour. Lincoln replaced many parts in rear end. Better but still noisy at 100 KM.Original Continental tires were very noisy but gripped well. Switched to Michelins.

Bought the car used off a 1 year lease. Ford gave a free extended warranty to 100,000 KM. Basic model with 5 speed automatic V6 and cloth seats. Handles very well, safe crash rating also excellent on long trips

Strength:

Excellent, smooth, powerful engine. Great handling, loves to go fast and can be pushed suprisingly hard despite its size. Best handling American car I''ve ever driven, in part due to the suspension and balanced weight distribution. A front drive V6 car is far inferior to this drivetrain. Decent job in reducing vibrations. Takes rough roads and uneven pavement well. Lots of features, spacious interior. rattle free, solid body. Nice paint job. Styling is understated and stealthy. Excellent crash test ratings and a good value.

Weakness:

Build quality, not up to standards compared to Japanese and European luxury cars. Cheap plastic interior components, fake wood, too much vinyl instead of leather, flat seat bottom, left foot rest not positioned properly, switch grear not elegant, poor interior storage, trunk hinges need to be gas charged, needs HID option, and amber rear turn signals. Lincoln could of spent a few more dollars on build quality instead of profits. Transmission is occasionally slow to shift. Road noise can be high on some roads. Only problem so far is an oil leak due to an inproperly installed gasket. Also, plastic trim on door not well installed.

Prefect size, convenience, features, handling and overall performance. Quality seems to be improved over the 2000 models. However, the car has not been trouble free. There are great features about this car, but the build quality and durability is in question. The Japanese makers would have done a better job in assembly. A good first attempt by Lincoln, but needs improvements.

Strength:

Great handling, looks good.

Weakness:

Automatic transmission takes forever to engage. There is no rhyme or reason to when it acts up. Some mornings when I reverse out of my driveway, I wait between 1 and 10 seconds for it to switch to drive. Good thing I live in a neighborhood and not on a busy street! Both automatic rear windows have fallen off track. Was told this was a standard flaw. Had to drive home one night 200 miles with back window half way down. Front window has water in door panel. Every time window put up, it''s wet. Every time it gets below freezing, window sticks. Was smelling an electrical burning smell in car. Was told it was a valve cover gasket. Part is on back order. Told to come get the car until part comes in. I''ll just ignore the white smoke. Was told the electrical smell was because they use a synthetic oil and that was what was burning. I''m just a girl who wants to be out of this lease.

I am so frustrated with this car. Can''t keep it out of the shop but always told the same thing - "we couldn''t find anything". Although it looks really sharp, the problems outweigh the look.
