Strength:

exterior and interior design, fast top speed, both luxurious and sporty

Weakness:

This is definitely NOT a sports car, it's a sports coupe. Has a slow acceleration in the first two gears but high end speed is adequate.

This is an extremely nice car whose design sets it apart from all other cars. You're not going to get the same power as 6-cylinder beamers, but beamers are a dime a dozen. This is a fairly unique vehicle which comes loaded with options. Being a 20 year-old college student with a Lexus is a fun experience. I'm not saying you'll get more women with this car, but you'll definitely be getting more attention. I've driven a 1994 BMW 325 convertible which is much faster and more fun to drive, but it's not as sophisticated and sexy as the Lexus. If you have the means, go ahead and opt for the sc400 so you can go head to head with the Mercedes and BMWs.

1994 BMW 325ic (convertible), I would choose the BMW over the Lexus only if it was convertible, otherwise Lexus is the way to go.

Strength:

The look of a champion, gold package trim is a must. Five year old car that looks like a year old.

Weakness:

No power, I wanted the 4.0 V-8 but it was more important for me to have a manual transmission, so I went for the 300. They need to make the 400 in a manual. What good is a sports car w/o a stick shift.

There is no question that the chick factor is present, every woman I pass will at least take a glance, a but the engine is weak. It seems like everybody on the road is driving a Bee-mr or Benz, so its a breath of fresh air on the road, that everybody likes to look at. I bought it with 35k MI, and I feel it has the best purchase I ever made.

Strength:

Design is first rate and borrows nothing from anyone. The car has never had a major design change and it still looks new and fresh. Engine is one the finest ever created. Nothing but smooth controlled power at your foot.
The inside is probably the closest thing to perfection on the road. Everything looks, feels, and is placed perfectly. The Nakamichi system is AWESOME!

Weakness:

Stock tires are not good (Goodyear)Go with more agressive tire if you want to push the car. Seats could use a small amount more of lateral support, but only if you want to open the car up. All in all they are fine.

Buy one of these cars...and hold on to it. I firmly believe this car is well on its way to becoming a classic.

Strength:

This car is simply immaculate. The quality of the ride and ergonomics are phenomenal. The car handles extremely well although I'll admit its
a bit heavy and more prescribed for those wanting a luxury sport coupe
rather than a high-performance sports car. The interior is very inviting
with a phenomenal sound system and more than adequate power.

Weakness:

Wish it came in 5-speed and the suspension was s little more firmer.

$40,000 (1994). I would recommend it to anyone who likes large
luxury cars but doesnt need the room of one. It's powerful,
sexy, and very attractive to the opposite sex. Besides some
maintenance problems, I found this car very enjoyable and satisfying.

Strength:

The car is powerful, handles well, and quality is outstanding. I like it a lot more than my buddy's 840i BMW he just bought. The dealership in fife, WA is good to work with, and always gives me a loaner car, a lexus to drive, during any service. Also they wash my car with every oil change, or I can drive in any time and they'll wash it for free.

Weakness:

Like the two other reviews I read, my power steering pump leaked onto my alternator at 75,000 miles. It set me back $1200.00. There should be a recall or extended warranty on this problem. I'll bet that over 80% of the SC's out there have this failure before 100,000 miles.

The only other weakness is headroom. I'm 6'1", and I have to open the moonroof and lean on the armrest to let my head slip into the extra inch the open moonroof provides. This car was made for small japanese people.

Paid 22,400 in 99' with 55,000 miles. Girls really like this car. I wanted a corvette, but that would only impress other guys. So whats the point.

Strength:

Smooth, quiet power; outstanding highway cruiser; extremely comfortable for two people on long trips; great Nakamichi sound system; superb handling. Attention to detail and the Lexus finish are first rate.

Weakness:

The power antenna has been replaced 3 times.
Back seats are hard to get in and out of - but this is a Sport Coupe!

Paid $28,000 CDN (approx. $19,000 US) with 110,000km (70,000 miles).
My SC400 now has 144,000km and I have only had to do oil changes and a brake service. The car performs flawlessly and is still a pleasure to drive.
My only complaint is that speed is difficult to gauge due to the quiet, effortless ride - I get too many speeding tickets!

I highly recommend this car for anyone that desires total comfort, with a surprisingly nimble and fast ride. The sculpted back seats are very comfortable for up to an hour (provided the front seats are moved forward).
The SC400 is not for you if you NEED four seats on a regular basis.

I would buy another Lexus SC400 over a comparable BMW or Mercedes any day.
You get better value for money, less depreciation and better dealer service.

M-B SL500, Jaguar XJ12, BMW 528i.

I found the Mercedes to be heavy and clunky, not to mention overpriced.
The Jaguar is comfortable and silky smooth, but not nearly as reliable as the Lexus.
The BMW is similarly priced, but not nearly as comfortable. BMW servicing is unneccesarily expensive, IMO.

Model Reviewed: SC300 5-speed

Strength:

Comfortable, handles well, looks good.

Weakness:

Underpowered. Had to replace several major items in 79k. A/C blower motor($400), A/C clutch & compressor($1,400).

Would be a great coupe with more power. I bought the SC300 because I wanted the 5-speed. I probably would have been happier with the SC400. The car is smooth, but at 60mph it feels like my '97 540 at 85. Still, for the $ 18k I paid two years and 25k miles ago, it has been a nice ride.

Similar Products Used:

Not nearly as quick as the BMW 535iA it replaced. The SC300 supposedly has 225hp vs. 209 for the 535. Have replaced it with a '97 BMW 540iA.

Model Reviewed: Lex SC 400

Strength:

The Lexus SC 400 is the car that I would recommend to anyone who wants to be "INSTANTLY RICH AND HANDSOME" Why, because once you buy the car people automatically assume that you have money and women who would not look at you before some how find you handsome...Women love it..enough reason for me.

Weakness:

The one weak point of the Lexus automobile is the design location of the power steering pump and the alternator. The power steep fluid resovoir sits directly above the alternator. So, when the pump begins to leak fluid after normal wear and tear and some fast driving to help it..the fluid leaks into the alternator. Now, instead of needing only a $500.00 power steering pump..you also need a $500.00 alternator. I'm sure that Lexus know about this problem..but they choose to turn their heads and pretend that they don't. My suggestion is to keep $1000.00 open on your credit card...at all times. Over all it's a GREAT CAR..Are you listening Lexus !

Strength:

Quality is quite amazing with attention to detail. The car loves to be driven as a true sports car which it is especially in the handling category. Having owned several sports cars(2 Vetts,5TA's)the SC fills your desire for agressive driving with a touch of gray. I especially like the whisper quiet "blow em away" acceleration.

Weakness:

Being considerably over 6 ft. and 200lbs, I found in and out a little tougher than the LS400 I had before the SC. If the doors would open wider this could be corrected. The back seat is small and not a good place to be. People who buy an SC probably don't need one anyway. Mine along with many others has had the power steering pump replaced due to leaking on the altenator;a rather expensive proceedure. I think LEXUS could of helped in this due to the numbers. Often the SC's bring $ more the LS's, probably due to lower production.

If you want a luxury-minded sports car thats very reliable and stands out then the SC is for you. If plush ride is a consideration go with the LS. If $ is short consider another make. LEXUS are not economy cars.

headlights are not very bright, a little bit too big in Japan, nice gas eater! But who cares!

My SC400 with 18 inch A.W.(gold), Air sus. controller, front and rear spoiler, etc... looks so nice! SC400 is not as fast as Supra(Toyota) or skyline GT-R(Nissan), but who cares! Toyota banza-i! (anybody know the Japanese name for SC400??? It's Toyota SOARER) (^o^)y-~~~
