Strength:

American style torque and power but Japanese sleek looks, sports, and handling. Comfortable! Gets lots of attention, specially at my age (19yo). And might I mention: you know that Lexus is a Branch of Toyota. But did you know that the Toyota Supra's engine (Non-turbo version) is the Lexus SC300's engine??? They are very similar cars but the SC is given more sophistications.

Weakness:

Dependable but, geez, when a part breaks down it is costly! I also like to modify my cars. This Lexus has got to be one of the hardest due to is luxuries and sophistications. Gas is expensive and this baby pulls but if your driving and loving such a nice machine, you really don't worry about the gas!

I wanted a Japanese car that was fast (4 bangers aren't fast enough for me), but not as gas consuming as an American beasty car. I needed something with crisp handling and comfortability for long rides without getting butt craps. The Lexus SC was perfect for me. Not too conservitive not too showy. You really can't go wrong with a Lexus...

Honda Civic - Pulls 3 times more gas! Much more comfortable than the civic of course! Faster and stronger and I get more attention. Really can't compare, Common here - Lexus vs. Honda?

Strength:

Smooth, Quiet, handels well, powerful.

Weakness:

One of the rear speakers is out along with the front left speaker which the old owner said it has something to due with the built in cellular phone. Keep an eye on the pulley that keeps the belt tight. (gets weak)

I bought this car from a friend. He bought it new. I love this car just like my friend did. It's smooth riding, reliable and powerful. I hope to get a lot of use out of this car.

Strength:

Very comfortable and smooth ride. Pleasant to drive.

Weakness:

Feels somewhat heavy. Style somewhat dated. Otherwise, not many weaknesses.

Super smooth, comfortable, powerful engine, quiet, killer Nakamichi stereo.

I thought it rides much better, and is much more comfortable than the Mercedes CLK and the BMW 3-series.

Strength:

Toyota reliability and reputation. Timeless styling. Ride comfort.

Weakness:

none to date

This is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. Extremely comfortable ride, timeless styling. Get second glances all the time, the valet always parks the car in front of the resturant.

I drive alot of 2 lane highways in Nevada, the SC 400 passes traffic like they are standing still. The car carries more than enough power.

Service and parts does tend to be expensive...but this is a luxury car, right?

PRICE OF REPAIRS!!!

Ok. this is a great car no matter how you cut it. I got mine with 125k miles and have driven it 12k since and have had only two probs with it, but BOY were they expensive! One was a small heater valve that lets the hot air into the car was $400 and the drivers side window motor was $500. Jesus for a window motor!!! The dash cup holder was broken when I got it, didn't even know what it was until I saw an SC with one in it. Anyone had this problem? How much to get it fixed?
Aside from these nit-picks This is a fantastic car. The ride is well-balanced for a sports car and there is enough power here for 95% of us, and I'm sure the 290 h.p. version gets the other 5%. I do wish it had a little more kick off the line, must have a big flywheel or something. I hear for $5-6k, you can have a supercharger put on to boost it from 250 to 320 h.p. The back seat room is a hell of a lot better than most sport coupes.

Strength:

Power... 0 to 60 is very fast. Engine performs like a smooth sewing machine on steroids. Transmission gear shifts are not felt at all. Amazing. The cockpit and cabin design are as stylish today in 2001 as they were in 1992. Nothing ever seems to break on this car. The paint and finish are super.

Weakness:

The AM radio reception is static prone and is not good. The snow handling of the SC400 is less than perfect due to the immense power. Snows on all 4 wheels and adding 300 LBs of weight to the trunk fixes this.

The SC400 is in my opinion a very refined sports coupe with timeless styling and superior performance. It is smooth, quite, and very far ahead of its time in ergonomics. The fit and finish on the auto is superior in every way. After 9 years, my SC400 is still in near showroom condition both inside and out. There are no rattles or squeaks. Everything functions perfectly, as it should (AM radio reception less less than good however).
At the end of the day, I feel the SC400 is perhaps one of the best sport coupes on the market and now with the introduction of the new SC430, you may find many SC400 owners who will be upgrading to the 430. That said, there could be a few SC400's finding their way out onto the used market.
My suggestion? Buy One! You will NOT be disappointed.

I have owned a BMW2002 Tii and BMW 325E. Neither of these cars can compare in any way to the SC400. Also I have owned a Jensen Interceptor and Jensen Healey. Again no comparison other that the Interceptor with the Hemi engine was also very powerful but not as quict as the SC400. I also have a Chrysler 300M which is a fine ride but its performance, fit and finish, and handling is lacking when compared to the SC400.

Strength:

Reliability, stability and overall performance.

Weakness:

Headlight assemblies like to collect water especially the right one. Gasket on Distributor assembly going into the engine likes to leak. Valve cover bolts like to loosen. And lastly it is a pure pain to change spark plugs. Oh actually one more...rear diff likes to leak a bit...not much though. Have fun changing that gasket out also. Replacing factory stereo to aftermarket is pure hell....Gas tank in trunk good idea for older people but not when younger ones get a hold of this car and try putting subs, amps and crossovers in a trunk that is already limited on space.

A pure luxury car with the heart of a sports car. Though only 220hp and 220 ft/lbs torque this car knows how to move. Manipulating the 5 speed manual is the key to it. The max power is at 5600rpm and the car redlines at 6500. It needs to rev like a 4 cyl. to obtain max performance. For those of you whom wish to mod this car it is very easy. The car uses the identical chassis as the 1993.5-1998 Supras. I am using KYB AGX shocks for a Supra on my car. They do not sell them particularly for the Lexus...Oh well their loss actually. Same part different part number and they bank more. I have an exhaust made by Apexi for the NA Supra which is a direct bolt on...yes it uses the same exhaust routing. If you really wanted to you can buy a stock supra NA exhaust and use it on the SC300. Mine is now a single. You can buy a short shifter for the SC300 from TRD or C's engineering. If you have any questions about mods to this car please feel free to e-mail me at lexusdrifter@yahoo.com I always answer expeditiously.

Less performance but more reliable than the 300Z, runs a lot cooler than the VR-4, doesnt hold a match to a 2.6 litre twin turbo awd sedan and a lot more fun than a Neon and a Presea....still debating the Cougar though.

Strength:

1)styling 2)engine (225 hp) 3)lexus service 4)interior 5)reliability

Weakness:

1)even though i love the look of the car it is alittle outdated, due to the current sport sedan trend 2)stereo is very mediocre and modifying a lexus system is very very difficult unless you replace the whole system

This car is as smooth as they come, but with a little pep to remind you its a sports car. This is my second lexus and as always they have been the best cars i have driven. The sc300 not only looks good, but gives you that sporty feel while still in a luxury car. Not to mention the car gets alot of looks which is always important. Suprisingly, did well in the winter for a rear wheel drive car here in buffalo which is as bad as it can get (however did put a pair of top of the line pirrelli's on the back). You can't go wrong with this car unless you can get your hands on a sc400 which has the V8. people hold onto these cars and with good reason. This car will be a classic.

Strength:

Great power and acceleration, smooth very quite ride. Great dependability. We have had it for about 8 years with out a single engine problem. The only time it's been in the shop was for routine maintenance(oil, check up etc.)and a coulple times when it was involved in a few very minor wrecks.

Weakness:

The stereo, mom opted not to have the nakamichi system(not quite sure about that spelling) or the cd player, God knows why. So all I'm left with when I drive it is the radio, and the casette(of which I don't own any).

This is one of the most awsome cars to drive. My mother bought it new by I drive it once every week. It has great acceleration, especially when the pwr excl is chosen on a swtich next to the gear shift. I have raced several civic si and beat them every time. I really wish it were my car, but alas, I have to deal with a domestic.
