What's not to like? Does anybody honestly think that the person who left the review after mine actually owns that car? First of all lexus has and probably always will lead the market in reliability. For a company who is all about a smooth quiet ride they certainly didn't miss on that one in the SC either. At the same time, they didn't sacrifice performance, in my '93 there's a 250hp V8 putting out roughly 260 lbs/ft of tourque. It does 0-60 in 7 seconds which I'm sure you could take to about 6.5 with a new air-filter and exhaust system. The nakamichi stereo is wicked, although I would recommend an aftermarket sub if you really like bass.
The car is among the best in terms of comfort, but most lexus are. So what to I like about it? Everything!!!!

Weakness:

Back seats are useless but it is a SPORTS COUPRE afterall!

Buy it if you want speed, reliability, comfort and a new sense of style! The ladies really like seeing a young guy (or old guy) in any lexus, the fact that it's a sporty coupe makes you look even better! So if you're looking for a perfect car, here it is, a lexus SC400! Hey, at 13000 what would you rather drive, an unreliable, underpowered north american heap (no offense to those who like NA cars) or a lexus? I'd say that's a fairly simple question and I'd expect a rather simple answer!

1997 Lexus ES300 - obviously a bigger sedan but it is no where near as exciting as the SC

2000 Porsche Boxster S - okay so this isn't fair is it? Well obviously the porshe smokes the sc but again I paid 13000 for the SC and the porsche is around 70000 with all options (that's why it's daddy's car!) The lexus is however much more comfortable!

Try the Borla exhaust along with the K&N Filter for better sound and slightly better performance. Have had good luck with Michelin HX MXM tires. Also have only used Mobil 1 synthetic oil and believe in it.

Weakness:

Don't like the standard wheels. Upgrade to a 17". Have also installed Eibach lowering springs and Koni adjustable shocks. Some ride quality deterioration but much improved looks and handling. Same problem with powering steering pump replacement, but caught it before alternator damage.

Solid used car for the money. Have driven it for two years and plan on keeping it at least another couple. Enjoy the Nakamichi sound very much.

Very nice looking car. Reliable. Retains value.

Weakness:

Power steering pump! This thing has gone out on EVERY early 90's SC400 above 60k miles. Shame on Toyota for turning their back on such a wide spread problem. Poor tire wear. The cost to fix this car is astronomical! I know it's a Lexus, but $500 to replace a headlight unit.

This is a nice car with a fine balance between performance and comfort. I would recommend it, but only if an extended warranty (100k) is included to cover the cost of the power steering pump that WILL break.

This car is absolutey amazing. I have been looking to purchase a fast car with an automatic transmission for a long time. The is by far the fastest car and the insurance is cheap. I timed this car shortly after I got the car and the 0-60 time is 6.81 seconds and a quarter mile average between 14.93-15.4. The is much faster when you disengage traction control. I owend a thunderbird SC before hand and this car will destroy it.I would say that this car is as fast as a 1996 BMW 328is automatic.

Weakness:

The car came with 16 inch crome rims but they were not that appealing.

If your into quality get this car. If you into being cheap get an american car and Ill see you at the mechanic 2x per week. Ill be the one flying by. My mechanic estimated a trouble free 200,000 miles from this car easy.

BMW 325is auto is so so slow. You will waste your money. A lexus is worth the extra money because it wont depreciate as bad as a BMW.

Styling (purchased with SC 400 7 spoke chrome wheels, chrome exhaust tips, and fact. spoiler), speed is great with a K&N filter, the comfort is far better than in any of my friends' cars, Lexus reliabilty is the best around (which is why my parents weren't concerned about buying this uncertified), the Nakamichi sound system is superb (i have a 12-disc changer, but the fact. changer is 6), the local Lexus dealer is the nicest around and when we bought the car, the saleperson did not pressure us but was very nice, the comments that i get from other people

Weakness:

It could use a little more power if it was going to be raced but so does every car. The suspension could also be a little stiffer (when i take turns sharp it tilts a little far but not too bad)

I would recommend the Lexus SC because it is one of the nicest and most reliable vehicles around. It doesn't matter what year you buy because they will never go out of style and the Lexus quality is excellent. There is just not enough good things I can say about it.

I am only 16 so this is my first car but my dad has had a Benz Luxury Sedan and i think this is much more comfortable and is definitly more reliable. My mmom has a Toyota 4-Runner but it is hard to compare it to the Lexus. My friend has a Defender 90 and wants to trade cars with me everyday so I guess they are a lot better than Defenders.

This car, which I purchased from a local dealer a few months ago, is the sports coupe equivalent of a Rolex watch. Everything about it, from fit and finish, to overall quality, is just amazing. Even though mine is a 1994 model, it looks and smells brand new. I will run this car into the ground.

Weakness:

None noted so far. I WILL keep my eyes on the steering wheel fluid pump, as stated below.

I would definitely recommend this vehicle (used) to anyone looking for a very high quality sports coupe. The ride is incredible and very comfortable without losing any road feel. Although new it is a bit steep (and definitely out of my price range), with the quality of Lexus, I had absolutely no qualms about about purchasing this 6 year old car. The only aftermarket accessories have been to upgrade the stereo with an Alpine unit and subwoofer, and to install the Alpine "Mobile Mayday" GPS satellite-location and emergency response system, (much more capable than LoJack). Living in NJ, Mobile-Mayday is almost a must-have.

Fantastic finish and an intangibly 'polished' feel. Outstanding smoothness and comfort.

Weakness:

Not enough power.

Bought used at 48k miles as 'Certified' in '95. Sold in 2000 with 130k. Been in the shop 2 times, excepting tires (power steering pump leak and sunroof). Dealers can range from great to suck-ass.

Strength:

Build Quality, smooth power, Beautiful car, suspension and power much improved over my 93, which I didn't think was possible

Weakness:

Local dealer sucks, should have "bend over and back in sign" on his entrance

Got an incredible price on this car, under 40,000 with 6000 miles, but if I hadn't I would have shelled out the 60,000 for a new one. Warning, once you have one you can't go back. Expensive but my 93 still looked and ran like new when I sold it after 6 years, so the overall cost isn't much more than repairing and replacing lesser cars.

$20000 in 3/00 for 1995 model with 75k; still a blast to drive; engine very smooth, makes great sounds; I do not agree with other review comments about lack of power; it is plenty quick for me, especially in 2nd and 3rd gears; I definitely recomment the SC-300 5 speed as a great ride, a kick to drive, and absolutely bulletproof.

Similar Products Used:

I had a 1993 SC-300 5 speed just like this one, including color; I sold it and bought a 1999 GS400, but missed the SC-300 (especially the manual transmission) so much that I sold the GS400 and bought another SC-300 5 speed.
