Strength:

Power, reliability, decent handling for size, decent fuel economy for class, luxury, reasonable price, safety features

Weakness:

styling, especially the grill, isn't my favorite, lack of snob appeal to some

The previous reviewer is obviously referring to some personal problems of his, not a car. What does someone committing suicide have to do with a car design? The Q is a "rebadged Nissan product". Ha. What is a Lexus ? Many people might prefer pocketing the $5,000 (real-world prices) they'll save in a few months, after the new-release hubub dies down, over an LS 430. Quotes were Q 45 sales "as of april 2001". I may be mistaken, but didn't the Q45 just come out in April? How COULD they sell as many as Lexus if they just came out in the middle of the month, and are not tooled up yet for full production, since they're obviously waiting to see if demand requires it? Besides, many drivers prefer a more exclusive and unique vehicle. At least those of without lemming tendencies. The Q is, according to published information, faster, better handling, and roughly equal in other areas. Also, Consumer reports just published a guide that shows not Lexus, not Mercedes, not, BMW, not Audi, but INFINITI as having the best overall reliability. (not that CR is beyond reproach in their methods, but still being on the top of the list is hard to argue with)

As for resale, time will tell on the new model. I hope it doesn't sell as well as the other makes, because I plan to wait 2 years and snap one up after its taken its big depreciation hit. I'll take a 2 y/o Q-45 at $35,000 to $40,000 over a new Lexus GS 300 or BMW 325i or 330i any day of the week. It's bigger, faster, handles better than the Lexus, and is much more reliable than the BMW(I'm a previous 540i owner). Other than the grill, I like the look of the new Q with the sport pkg. It's modern as well as mature.

Similar Products Used:

BMW 540i. The Q is probably more comfortable, reliable, luxurious, and yes, faster. The BMW is hard to beat for handling and looks, but is an aging design and are expensive to operate. The Infiniti dealer experience is also reputed to be better. My experience with BMW is mixed, but mostly they're arrogant and snobby. Some may like this, I don't happen to.

Strength:

Be careful of the review posted by "Neil" below... He is an ex-Infiniti Salesman who has been fired from two different dealerships in the Nashville area. He is infamous for posting disinformation on the FRESHALLOY.COM site as well. This is an excellent car, don't take the word of past employees.

Weakness:

None

Excellent car, even though I have only owned it for one week. Excellent acceleration, and the car doesn't feel like it is "leaning backwards" when you accelerate. The Voice interaction takes some getting used to, but if you are a futuristic gadget freak such as I, you will LOVE it.

Wife LOVES the interior...

Strength:

Styling and acceleration.

Weakness:

Gas guzzler. Poor traction on wet roads. Goes through brakes and tires quickly (although every hi-perf car I've had does that) I would like to have dual climate controls F/R, split fold-down rear seat, a lumbar that adjusts vertically and awd. Then it would truly be the perfect car.

Fantastic styling. Very Euro and modern. Super Engine and acceleration. Blows away all other Q45s until the 2002 model. Has every gadget you could desire.

Strength:

Smooth, solid, firm ride. Sports car handling and acceleration. Body integrity very solid. It f e e l s like a luxury car.

Weakness:

Repairs expensive. So so fuel mileage on premium. Depreciation bad.
Goes through brakes and tires. (I have 17" rims and finally found a tire that will last a while- Michelin Pilot XGT 245/45 ZR-17. Other brands won't give you 10,000 miles)

This has been an awesome car since I bought it new 11/92 (I atually leased it for three years and decided to buy it at the end). Only a few non-maintenance repairs (pesky check engine light problem, one bad injector, a few suspension parts). I now have 86,000 miles on it and the car still looks and drives like new. The engine is so quiet idling that I sometimes go to start it when its already running! Newer cars are faster so it doesn't blow the doors off everything as it did when new, altough it still gives a thrill to floor it at speed or show off the handling taking a corner quickly. The thought has crossed my mind to get something newer, but the ol' Q keeps on eliminating the need, certainly, and even the desire.

Previously owned an '88 Acura Legend which was the hot ticket when new, but is a toy compared to the Q.

Strength:

Amazingly strong engine. Sound system (but not as good as a J30). Interior appointments are best in class. The car now has about 85k whith 45k when I bought it. An absolutely beautiful automobile. I wanted one since they first came out. Other comments I have read suggest poor mileage and excessive brake and tire wear. I am getting the mileage I expected to get when I bought the car 19-21. Doesn't matter how much how I drive. I wanted wider tires than stock, but did not want shorter ones. Michelin has 235/15. Excellent tire. Over 20k miles and still at least 10k more. I just recently replace brakes (and rotors too). Learned never replace pads without rotors. If you don't replace rotors, they warp.

I think one of my rear CV joints is going out. Dealer never heard of that failure before. That's my first real problem. I use Amsoil oit, air clearner, and rear end oil. I want to replace transmission fluid next.

Weakness:

Cruise control...must turn it on each time. Would rather have it stay on. Too much conering roll. Needs bigger sway bars. Small diameter wheels. Loss of value is a problem, but it allowed me to buy one of the best automobilies in the world at a decent price.

Wonderful automobile. Beautiful (when clean). Classy elegance. Powerful engine.

Can you say rocket launcher? Handles like a dream. Great for highway travel. Comfortable for my 6'5", 350lb frame. Smooth ride.

Weakness:

$$$$$$$ The dollars can add up for repairs. The key alone cost $145. Transmission $2300 (dealer $5000).

This is my dream car. I brought it as a christmas gift to myself. The dealer tried to turn my dream into a nightmare (sold as is with a bad transmission, but I still love this car.

Speed, smooth ride past 100mph and up, stylish body, cool clock, luxurious, overall its a great car

Weakness:

since ive had this car for so long, ill list the most frequent problems.
brakes wear out quick, gas guzzler, rims look like satellites, no cup holder, horrible handling in rain or water, the brake and stop light sensors tend to break

I've had this car for 6 years now and its held up quite nicely. Tremendous power and stylish. Its lasted for 165,000 miles and still going strong. Great high end speeds and smooth ride. Lots of torque and plenty of horesepower. It also helps that i have a jim wolfe technologies transmission chip which allows me to start in first gear and take it past the redline to 7500rpm and a stillen ECU chip. Can you say very fast. If you want luxury and speed, this is the car for you. Very respectable and long lasting.

Strength:

1. Design
2. Quiet ride
3. More bang for the buck spent(amenities, standard features etc.)
4. Powerful engine
5. Innovative headlights

Weakness:

1. A wee bit too much "play" with the pedal before actually accelerating
2. Sloping back window is pretty but, from the inside during the day without the automatic rear screen up will cause more glare than your average vehicle.

This car is fantastic! I've had the vehicle for 2 weeks and 2 days now and I must say that it is a few grades above my traded in 1999 Acura 3.2 TL. This car is one that you MUST read the manual to understand how to operate the multitude of "creature comforts" effectively. The interior is inviting with ample maple wood abound and available in 3 shades(the sport packaged Q45 only comes in the granite color wood and is also the only model to sport a blue trim in the rear lights and if they had other maple colors to choose from outside of the granite, I would have opted for that package rather than the luxury package). The exterior slopes like a great white shark ready to attack any pavement put in its hungry face(the grill and the high placement of the headlights really make the front of the vehicle appear to not only be intimidating but innovatively attractive as well.
A+ in my book thus far!!
