Crysler 300M Special
Strength:
Excellent pickup and handling. 360 hp engine has plenty of power for this car. Very roomy with plenty of legroom, especially for people sitting in the back seats. Leather seats look and feel great and have maintained the near-new condition even though we have a small child who could be a bit more careful with his sodas. I've heard complaints about road noise and imo, it's not a problem, at least with our 300M Special. The drive especially on freeways is quiet and smooth. I really like the "memory" features as far as seat/mirror setups for two different drivers.
Weakness:
Several major issues unfortunately make owning this car less pleasent then it should be... Front brakes *and* rotors wore out by 10,000 miles and even though we had an extended warranty that should have covered the rotors (at least) Chrysler techs said that it was "normal" wear and we had to pay for new breaks and rotors. Less thena month later, we started noticing the front end "shimmying" again when breaking and the tech said the breaks were almost worn out due to "poor driving" which enraged us as my wife is a pretty cautious driver. To Chrysler's credit, they are re-doing the breaks for free and have repremanded the tech who blamed what appears to be an improper break job on driver error! However, we've been told that the 300M's wear out breaks *very* quickly and this is endemic to the car itself. Also, the sightlines are rather poor, especially in the front making it hard to judge parking. This can be a huge problem when the very low plastic front end hangs up on a parking curb or something similar as it "pulls" out very easily and must be re-adjusted and reset in place using a special tool by a Chrysler tech. My wife bought the silver 300M Special with a 3 year lease about 9 months prior to me writing this review. Car has the moonroof, the seat heaters, the cd/cassette deck, leather interior and pretty much all the bells and whistles this model comes with. Style, power, handling, interior comfort & room, large trunk, great stereo (upgrade). Also 253 horses and still 28 mpg on the highway at 75 to 80. The best ZOOM for the buck I've ever seen. I stll can't believe how quick it is from 60 to 90 and how smooth.
Weakness:
Road noise was a problem, but was much better after I switched to a quieter tire. Some minor electrical issues; passenger seat heater quit and two controls on the dash lost the backlighting. As I've read and heard elsewhere, the paint quality is a problem. It seems to chip very easily, especially at the nose. Bought it with 33,000 on it off a corporate lease. It now has 60,000 miles on it(after only six months)and I still love it. Mechanically it is still like new. I love the comfort, power, handling and the looks. This is my last shot with an american car. So far I'd buy another. Performance handling package, power roof and upgraded stereo are all worth it. I hope to go to 150,000 miles (at 50,000 per year). My fiend's BMW had a blown water pump at 53,000 and a radiator leak at 60,000. He dumped it at 68,000 saying it was wearing out !! I've been looking for a great road car for years, but not at $40,000 plus. So far I'm a happy driver. Similar Products Used: none, but tried the Lincoln LS, Acura TL, before deciding on the M |

handling, engine, styling, interior are all excellent the driving lamps are well designed and useful.
Weakness:
sun roof sliding shade could be smoother in operation power windows may be a weakness, I had to get the regulator replaced (warranty item) on driver's window. I purchased this vehicle used (so-called "program car") with 23K miles. [Dodge] Dealer provided an extended warranty to 70K miles. In general, I'm well pleased with this vehicle. It gets a solid 29 MPG on the open road at 75/80 MPH. Running average since I have owned it is over 23 MPG. Yet the car has very good performance, in spite of very quiet operation. Handling is quite good, the car is fun to drive fast in the mountains. I like the Michelin tires better than the Goodyear Eagles on the wife's 98 Concorde, quieter, better ride, and seem to hold up well. The 300M's good looks get a lot of praise, it's a very practical car, yet extremely comfortable and well mannered. Although the manual shift feature is fun, most of the time I just leave the transmission in auto mode. It's a very enjoyable vehicle that I would recommend to most anyone Similar Products Used: 98 Chrysler Concorde LS, also a very good car. With 3.2L engine, it is not quite as powerful as 300M. This car is holding up well. |

Style of course, good engine power, good handling,braking.Comfort. Big trunk. Full size spare with alloy wheel.
Weakness:
Noise level, interior bits not consistant quality. Great seats, so so dash material etc. Marginal audio system. I wanted a car that was roomy, had nice handling, good acceleration, and above all "STYLE". The 300m gives me all I want, and much more than I expected. I can understand the options list being short because this car is so well equiped. I have had another Chrysler product, a Dodge 2001 Neon that provided yeoman service but was just too basic for my lifestyle. The 300m opens up a whole new adventure. Its 3.5 V-6 puts out plenty of power and scoots the 3500 plus pound car smartly. Handling is very good for such a large car. The steering is well weighted with good off center feel, and not overboosted like some other luxo-boats I have driven. Braking is quite good again for such a large car. Stops are reasonably short without any drama at all. The low speed Traction Control is a nice bonus for those wet and slippery climes. Comfort is very good too with the power multi-adjustable seats with heaters. The front passenger also is treated with power for his/her seat as well. The materials for seats are nicely done with straight seams and good tailoring. The guage cluster with its' clock face styling is very well done and easy to read. The dash material could be of better material as the piller panels too, but otherwise fit and finish inside is good. Thank goodness Chrysler did not fall into the trap of using a CRT based info system for the HVAC etc.. Thoughtful ergonomics are plentiful, like the radio control buttons on the steering wheel etc., but I wish the radio would sound better than it does. It doesn't sound much better than my Neon did. Rear seat room is great for 2 adults, good for 3. My head doesn't even touch the headliner back there. I am about 5'9". Good foot room and the rear air vents for the back seat area is greatly appreciated. The ride is good with supple controlled damping for the bumps, but interior noise is alittle higher than I expected for this class of vehicle. Still miles ahead of my Neon. So all in all, for me at least, this 300M is a keeper. I bought all the goodies to protect it, including the extended warranties, and lojack etc., so along with my other friends who already have a 300m, one of which bought one just recently, we can enjoy one of the best values and luxurious style and good performance today, and hopefully for many tomorrows to come. Strength:
Nice stereo system, like the auto stick, and many horses under the hood. Also, plenty of trunk space, and people space in the back seats.
Weakness:
See summary above. Also, with the sweet stereo system and 250 hp, it is still a car for grandpa. Too bad. I think the problem with the tires has to be the most disturbing, since they are 17 inch tires, which cost about $125 a piece. And I almost forgot...customer service is HORRIBLE at Chrysler. I sent them 2 letters and many phone calls about my incident with the brakes, and they never reimbursed me for the cost of replacing them. I don't know if I'll ever have such a bad experience with a car again in my life. First was the brakes-replaced before 10K miles. Next, the interior trim around the doors shrank-before 10K miles. Next, parking brake clip came loose-before 10K miles. Tires replaced around 12K miles. and again at 20K miles. and again at 27K miles. Power windows needed fixed around 20K miles. Electrical system constantly has a mind of its own, especially on the interior. The paint chips way too easily. I am sure their is more, but I can't remember them all. Nice to look at and to drive in. Comfortable, and has a lot of character.
Weakness:
Front end and rotors replaced 3 times. (First time the rotors were replaced was after 1100 miles.) Steering column replaced. Air Conditioning freezes up on auto setting. Lack of help from Chrysler to any issues. A multitude of other little problems, which all seemed to occur after the warranty expired. Rapid depreciation (a.k.a Trade-In Value)as Chrysler started to offer many buyer incentives. Read all the trade reviews on this vehicle prior to its release and we picked ours up in May 1998, after first release to the dealers. Since then, and 70,000 miles later it has been a nightmare. We now leave the vehicle in the garage until we can return it when the lease runs out! Similar Products Used: Nissan Maxima, which we should never have traded for the Chrysler. |

Engine...AWESOME power response. Autostick..a must! Impressive styling. Nice appointments,no its not Mercedes but it ain't too shabby!
Weakness:
I wish the door key opened ALL the doors, other than that, haven't found one yet. No braking parachute included as standard equipment either..oh well.. You know I've read the negatives on this board. I know not every car can be perfect, but c'mon...QUIT WHINNING!! THIS CAR ROCKS!! If you buy it with some miles on it, USE YOUR HEAD..BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! I used to work at a dealership, I've seen it all before and driven most of it too. I think that this car is a CONTENDER. It ain't a BEEMER, it ain't a Ferrari, BUT it ain't that bad either!! I love the styling. I love the room. It handles like a Lotus on the corners. For a domestic, it holds its own. BUY ONE!!!
