Chrysler 300M Luxury

Chrysler 300M Luxury

DESCRIPTION

Chrysler launched the completely new, sport-oriented 300M in 1999. The 300M used the same front-drive chassis as the Concorde/Intrepid, but had distinct styling and a shorter body. Power was supplied by a 3.5L 253-horsepower V6 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission, though the 300M was fitted with Chrysler's AutoStick automatic, which permits manually-selected gear changes using a separate shift gate. The 300M distinguished itself with 17-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension and steering settings. The Performance Handling option gave the 300M more aggressive 16-inch rubber. The 300M is a 5-passenger sedan with leather upholstery and heated front seats standard.

Strength:

stunning looks. roomy inside. handles well for a car this size. good acceleration. gauges are cool, especially at night. 8-)

Weakness:

paint quality could be much better. had initial problems with the car pulling to the left. no HID lamps! Too much road noise. keyfob range too short.

i've had this car for about one year now and i couldn't be more pleased. i have some nit-pick's listed above, but everytime i walk towards my car in the parking lot, i love the racey look,, even standing still! DC needs to match the quality and feel of BMW to make this car even better. no other car has a the look like this one.

Strength:

Performance, exterior and interior styling, standard equipment, audio system.

Weakness:

Stiffer ride with performance handling package.

The car is styler beautifully both inside and out. The acceleration is top notch with the very impressive 3.5 liter high-output V6. Lots of room inside (I'm 6'3). The stereo is the best I've heard in or out of a car (11 speakers, 4-disc in-dash CD player, 360 watt). The instrumentation is done very nicely and the analog clock is very classy! The luxury group makes the interior look like it costed tens of thousands of dollars more and you get cool features such as exterior mirrors that tilt down when you shift into reverse so you can see the curb. The optional side airbags are a safety plus. I've had the car for almost 5 months without a glitch. I'd recommend this car to people who like sports sedans but want to buy a North American car instead of Asian or European. The 300m has much better styling than any Asian car and more gut than European cars in the same price range.

Strength:

As before mentioned, strong nameplate, love it or hate it syling, a good comprimise betwene a family hauler and a luxery sedan

Weakness:

Poor fit and finish, lack-luster performance and fuel economy, cheap gimicks everywhere, too much plastic and fake wood trim, "gaint crouching insect" styling.

A good attempt on DaimlerChrysler's part, to fool the average consumer into believing that they were purchasing a luxury car, when in reality they were buying along the same lines as a Mitsubishi Dimante. Generaly a nice car, because of the Chrysler nametag and expectations, five star service and retiree apeal. A decent enough car for the average up and comer, but certainly no luxery sedan or European competitor.

Similar Products Used:

Mitsubishi Diamante, but I found the Mitsu to have a better fit and finish, better styling, and peppier acceleration.

Strength:

Handling, acceleration when moving.

Weakness:

Rough shifing transmission thumps and clunks in and out of second. Has been worked on twice without improvement. Previously had a 1995 Intrepid ES with a disastrous transmission. So many repairs that I got rid of it. Power windows won't work when it's cold, yet my 1995 Contour and my wife's 1995 Contour do. Blower motor stopped working on an extremely cold morning. Not the sort of quality one typically experiences with cars which I considered buying -- i.e., Maxima GLE and Infiniti I30T. Also, the foot rest for the left foot restricts front leg room. On a long trip my left hip aches because I cannot straighten my leg so that the seat supports the thigh. I am 6'3" tall.

With 43,000 km (25,000 miles) on the car, it should have been trouble free.

1995 Ford Contour V6. Not nearly as reliable.

Strength:

It looks Great! I have people ask me about it nearly every day. They are all facinated with its looks. It drives as well, or better, than European performance sedans that cost $10K - $15K more than my 300M. It is comfortable, roomy and luxurious on the inside. My Five-Star Dealer has been a pleasure to work with from the purchase to routine oil changes.

Weakness:

I have a nagging little intermitant rattle in the glovebox area. As yet, it has not been found. But then again, it doesn't always rattle!

I was recently called to evaluate and drive 18 luxury sedans that ranged from an Alfa Romeo 556 up to a Caddy Eldorado. There were only three American cars, and the 300M was one of them. The 300M was a clear winner when value was considered. There were several other autos that measured up, but they started at $10 Grand more. The number 2 was the Infinity J30 and three was the little Lincoln.

I shopped carefully and compared Avalons, Maximas, Regals and Bonnevilles. All fell short in significant ways.

Strength:

just the best transmission for its price range, the auto-stick feature is PURE JOY!!!!!

Weakness:

No rear seat cup holders

I have never owned a car that I loved more completely. It continues to thrill me the same way it did the first time I drove it and that is after 60,000 miles!!!!!As for the various complaints I have not experienced any.I might be lucky or there just might be a few bad cars that were overlooked by the QC process at Chrysler.I n my neighborhood there are 4 other 300M's all owned for 2yrs or more and all have been trouble free so far.I would strongly recommend the 300M as a TRUE SPORTS SEDAN better than any for the price tag.

Strength:

The look of the car interior and exterior. The speed of the car is great! It is very roomy and the amenities are very luxurious.

Weakness:

I test drove the Concord and it was okay then I test drove the 300M and I fell in love with it. The first six months I had the car I had to replaced all four tires. The window sensors keep going out. I have had my racket and pinnion replaced, and Twice the transmission sensor has gone out. Both the racket and pinnion and the transmission sensors have happened while I was driving. And Monday the transmission went out completely-while I was driving. And through all of that I have been treated like trash by the service department at Lafayette Motor Co. The service department there is unconcerned about you and they have Daimler Chrysler to back them in their dirt.

Well, I have only had the car for 1 year and 1/2. If I had not gone through what I went through I definitly would recommend the 300M to others. But since day one I have had nothing but problems and my car came straight off the truck plastic and all. And with all of that no one will even acknowledge that there is something really wrong about my car. I will not by any means recommend this car to anyone I know love or hate.

Strength:

Sufficient power for almost any situation - a real pleasure! Comfortable and roomy for 4 and 5 if you have to!

Weakness:

The original Goodyear tires had to be replaced - "wobble", noisey and no traction. Cruise control need lighting!

I traded a C280 MB because the MB was too small - I have gained in the trade more then the size. Very comfortable, great seat adjustments, quiet, very smooth on the highway! Fun and easy to drive on back country roads - and cruises Texas style on the major highways!

Strength:

Ride,power,braking,internal comfort,external looks,sound system,reasonable gas mileage,huge internal and trunk space.

Weakness:

cruise controls on steering should be backlit, low front air dam that can scrap the road surface in some situations, some slight paint imperfections and chessy rear floor matts(very minor).

This summer I test drove the Chrylser 300M, the Nissan Maxima SE and the Acura 3.2TL.All 3 vehicles are fine sporty 4 door family sedans. The 300M retailed for $3000(US) more than the other two cars but when it came down to negotiating the price the 300M was $1000(US) less. Of course this isn't the only reason I chose the Chrysler. The 300M has the right balance of performance, ride, internal comfort, external looks, and has a great sound system.
