Chrysler 300M Luxury

Chrysler 300M Luxury

DESCRIPTION

Chrysler launched the completely new, sport-oriented 300M in 1999. The 300M used the same front-drive chassis as the Concorde/Intrepid, but had distinct styling and a shorter body. Power was supplied by a 3.5L 253-horsepower V6 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission, though the 300M was fitted with Chrysler's AutoStick automatic, which permits manually-selected gear changes using a separate shift gate. The 300M distinguished itself with 17-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension and steering settings. The Performance Handling option gave the 300M more aggressive 16-inch rubber. The 300M is a 5-passenger sedan with leather upholstery and heated front seats standard.

the room inside (the upshot of forward cab design which diamler-chrysler doesn't mention) surrounds you spacious comfort and ample leg room. I am 6ft tall and leg room for myself and all who ride with me is a first. I like my money worthy. Price & Performance. the 250-horses put some serious rev in your styling (though electronically limited.) When I am out pleople ask me all the time what type of car is that? And with a big smile, I let them know.

Weakness:

Attention to some details. the cup holders for the rear seat seems almost like a engineering flaw. image this, you are sitting the back set and you want to sink back into the pillowy rear seats that happen to fold down for easy access into the truck. in doing so for greaty comfort, you pull down the arm rest. now laid back in soft leather that has give rise to your spirits, you squarely situate your arm on the rest for a better reclininh position. suddenly, with the twinge in forearm revels an oversite on your part. you have placed you forearm not on a comletely flat surface, but inserted into the middle of the arm rest is the cup holders. Just bad placement in my opinion.
Next is no on-dash indicator for the driver when heated seat is switched on. Only option is to look down. Can you say "Oh no! my gosh I am gonna crash." As I said before, small things that amount to overall worthy and satisfaction.

Best bang for the buck! I like the car; I like the hosepower. If you decide to get it, go all the way and opt for the performace package. The ride and greater handling is worth it.

Strength:

This is by far one of the best Domestic cars, maybe one of the best car period, that you can buy for less than $50,000. I shopped Mercedes (C and E class), Lexus (GS), and Audi (A6) and quite frankly, the 300M is just simply alot more automobile for the money. This car is long and wide, but handles like a much smaller automobile. The trunk is very wide and deep, both rear seats fold down. Leather standard, all power everything and an absolutely top-notch Infinity 11-speaker (optional) stereo system. It pulls very strong, something the Lexus did not do, and accelerates very well, while being whisper quiet, but not too isolated. I bought the 300M equipped with every option available for the 2001. The luxury group, side air bags, chrome 17" wheels capped with Michelin 225-55-VR17 MXM tires (optional with the Performance Handling Package, which is a tighter, but somewhat rougher ride) sunroof and the Infinity stereo, which included tweeters in the rear doors and a center channel speaker in the dash... And speaking of the dash, the "Indiglo" bezels look absolutely awesome, and are easy on the eye... Rear seating is as good as the S-class I sat in at the Benz dealer, the back door opening is exactly the same size.

Weakness:

The power window switches are too tight and there is no express close option for the sunroof, but the size of the sunroof is very large and it offers even back seat passengers a good view of the sky.

Definately test drive one, and you'll buy it... The Performance Handling Package might be a little rough for some, but the first time you take an off-ramp 30 mph too fast, you'll be very impressed. The Michelin V-rated tires are simply top of the line and stick very well...

Something not noted in the dealer nomenclature, but with your Performace Handling Package option, a revised (faster) transmission computer is installed, and the speed-limiter is removed. The 300M will accelerate to a top speed of 142 mph! and do a 0-60 in 7.1 (YMMV)...

Safety is found here with side air bags (optional) and the no-seam Passenger Air bag is a nice touch, the dash material is smooth, without any line denoting the placement of he pass-side SRS. The autostick is done in Jaguar-like quality.

I highly recommend this true drivers' car!

The 300M has more HP and torque than the V6 Lincoln LS, and any C-class. he autostick is simply wonderful to use for interstate passing and the transmission shifted better than the GS I test drove. The 253 horsepower/256 ft-lbs torque 3.5 litre V6 is just a notch under the V8! offered by Lincoln and simply overwhelms the C-class and any Volvo, and it is normally aspirated (no turbo) and can use regular unleaded (although mid-grade is recommended). It is a back-road performer as well...

Strength:

Beautiful styling in and out, very fast, powerful. After all that time I still get compliments at gas stations from strangers.

Weakness:

Terrible, terrible GoodYear LS 17" tires! Had I known, I would have opted for the performance package with the 16" Michelins. In 1/2" of snow, this car can't make it up the slightest hill! Traction control is a joke! I have 30K miles on it. At around 14K the brake pedal started to feel spongy. The dealer told me I needed new front brake pads. They were replaced and the problem continuued... I have complained about that on every single oil change visit - but every time the dealer said "no problem found"! Other complaints are: the trunk lid should power close as in Lincoln or Cadillac, for instance. Also, can't open the trunk without having the transmission in "Park"!. No light under the hood. No lockable gas filler door (I have bought an aftermarket lockable gas filler cap).

I would definitely recommend this car. It needs a few adjustments (tires being the most) but overall its a great car. It looks (judging by other people's comments) as if most mechanics at dealer's service departments needed urgent training on how to handle repairs of this car.

Strength:

Appearance, power, handling

Weakness:

Interior could be quieter at highway speeds- then again, that's what the stereo is for.

I paid just about $30K for my 300M, fully loaded. This is the most awesome car I have ever owned. It is very fast with precise handling and little or no body lean. It moves around twisty roads like James Brown in full sweat! If you're into styling and appearance, the 300M is a gorgeous car. It seems like nobody can bend sheet metal like Chrysler! I am frequently complimented by strangers on how great the car looks. The layout of the controls and instruments is excellent. Chrysler really paid a lot of attention to detail here. Finally, the overall value can't be beat. Almost anything you'd care to add to the car is already included, and there are only a couple of options.
I'm extremely pleased to see that an American car maker can turn out such a beautiful piece of work. I'd highly recommend the 300M to anybody considering an entry level Lexus or Audi.

Great looking car, very roomy. Was great until the warranty ran out.

Weakness:

Ever since the warranty ran out on my car I have had to have it in the shop numerous times for transmission sensors to be replaced, other sensors to be replaced. I have had the check engine light come on numerous times. Currently I have had it in the shop 4 or 5 times due to the speedometer going to 0 while I am driving and staying there for what seems like forever then all of a sudden the car hesitates and then the speedometer starts working again. Every time I take it into the shop they tell me they can't find anything wrong with it. I have taken it to two different dealerships one has been really nice and the other one has been horrible and charge me $200 to tell me nothing is wrong with it. It is still driving like this and I am ready to trade it in. I am really sad because I loved this car when I first bought it now I hate it.

I currently could not recommend this car due to the problems I have had with it.

Strength:

Then engine! The engine is top notch, many people don't realize how strong the engine really is. This car is well put together. I've had the car for 12 months and I have took the car into service only once because the driver side window became off line. Acutally, it probably came off line due to road bumps or slamming the door when the window was down, neverthless, Chrysler took care of it. The sound system is great. Munroof is large and gives a good view of the sky. The frontend desing is spectacular! I have yet to understand people who put a bra on their frontend because it takes away from a truely unique design. The seats are very comfortable. I still get compliments after a year. Recently I switched to 20" rims and I still have a lot of room left in my wheel base. I got so many looks now I'm thinking about taking the rims off!! I was on the expressway traveling to the gym and one guy kept looking back like his neck was stuck, no joke! It's true!! AC is excellent and the heated seats is a joy. The car is very roomy. you can sit 3-4 people in the car and still feel comfortable, unlike some other cars. The autostick will provide a sports-type ride for those who like sports cars. The full size spare is a big plus.

Weakness:

The factory tires are horrible!! The 20" tires I have on the car now are quieter than the 17" tires I had previously. Last winter, I had trouble getting out of the garage because the tires was worthless, not because of the engine. Ths factory tires provides ZERO traction on snow. There should be led lights on the steering wheel controls becasue they are hard to see at night. Dual pipes would provide a better look to the backend instead of what they have back there now. However, I've noticed the 2001 now have chrome pipes.

Though the tires are a pratical joke, I would still buy this car again and again and again. It's a joy to drive. It also holds good value, which is important when you go to trade it in. I don't see how any one will go wrong with this car. After 1 year, the ride is very stable and strong, there is nothing falling apart on the car. I hear no ratling noise of any sorts. The fluff seats is very relaxing, please don't buy the 300M with the cloth seats. Overall, this is a strongly built car design to get your money's worth, well some of your money's worth out of it, especially since none of these cars are worth what they are asking for. I am still enjoying this car and very pleased I didn't buy a gas hungry sports utility, such as the Ford Expedition.

Chrysler Sebring LXI was the first car I purchased out of college, the 300M is my second and I am very happy with the 300M. The suspension is a lot better on the 300M, which is expectable since 4door sedans seem to have better suspensions then a 2dooe anyway.

This car awesome! If anyone is looking for a luxury car that looks and feels and drives like a sports car, look no further. I have had this car for about 7 months and have put 8500 miles on it. The more I drive it the better it feels. It obviously can't compete with the power of a 5.0L Mustang but I sincerely believe a souped up Acura or Civic wouldn't stand a chance on my stock 300M. I have never raced and never will because I like it too much. I knew I would be getting one after sitting in it for 5 seconds. This car is replacing an 8 year old Intrepid with over 100,000 miles on it. If the 300M holds up even half as well as the Intrepid, I may have this car forever. Being that I don't know what else to say I will quit by saying this, WOW! Best bang for the buck out there!!!!

Runs great when it runs

Weakness:

I have had a multitude of problems with tires shimmying. It took 10 separate trips to the dealer to figure out that the GoodYear Tires that came with the car are not appropriate. I finally had to purchase a set of Michelin tires to fix the problem. This is a known problem that Chrysler knows about with this car. Its too bad they don't tell their dealerships about this problem. I have had problems with the rear window motors shorting out and not working. The rear window gasket keeps coming loose. I have had several problems with the Fuel System. I bought the premier care warranty from Chrysler and every time I have had a problem they charge me 50 dollars for each separate repair. Recently I had another fuel system problem that fouled out my spark plugs and they charged me $200.00 to fix a set of spark plugs. Needless to say Chrysler has lost a customer because of a poorly performing vehicle and even poorer customer service.

Interior Room, Power, Looks, Performance, Braking,

Weakness:

Engine Refinment, wind noise

This is my first "Luxury Car", and will be my last until this baby dies. This is truly a remarkable vehicle. I opted for the performace package that includes the 17 inch chrome rims, performance tires, stiffer suspension, performace brake parts, and tbetter steering. I prefer to drive my cars instead of letting my cars drive me, and I must say this vehicle is a pleasure to drive. Its engine feels like an 8 cylinder and the steering is tight and precise. The looks are astounding, as I have recieved many compliments in the 7 days I've owned it. And, being that Im 6'1, I am really weary about buying a car that would not allow 4 people to sit comfortale when I driving with the seat all the way back, but the 300m solves that problem with the most space in a rear seat I've seen yet.

My only gripe would be that the engine doesnt sound as refined as other 6 cylinders I test drove. And, wind noise is a bit louder that other cars as I drove as well, but overall, this car is SPECTACULAR.
