RIDE IS TO DIE FOR; GRAND HANDLING, LOVE THE LEATHER; AUDIO SYSTEM GOOD; VERY COMFORTABLE CAR-DON''T MIND LONG TRIPS WHEN DRIVING THIS CAR

Weakness:

THE 30,000 MILE TUNE-UP WAS KIND OF A JOLT - NOTHING CHEAP ABOUT GETTING THE CAR WORKED ON EITHER. TONIGHT WHEN COMING HOME FROM WORK, THE CAR JUST QUIT. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO A SIDE ROAD AND IT DID START RIGHT BACK UP AGAIN. BUT I AM GOING TO BE AT THE CADILLAC DEALER IN THE MORNING TO GET IT CHECKED. ESPECIALLY SINCE ANOTHER COUPLE THAT I KNOW ONES ONE JUST LIKE MINE AND HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO THEM A FEW WEEKS AGO.

I WAS DRIVING A 1999 300M MADE BY CHRYLSER WHEN THE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED(THAT CAR IS A PIECE OF JUNK.WELL, I RENTED A CADILLAC WHILE THAT ONE WAS IN THE SHOP AND JUST LOVED IT. SO AS SOON AS I COULD, I OFFLOADED THAT CHRYLSER AND GOT A CADILLAC. I AM A FIRST TIME BUYER OF CADILLAC BUT HOPEFULLY WILL KEEP BUYING THESE UNTIL I DIE OR CAN''T AFFORD THEM ANYMORE.

Strength:

Good looks, excellent handling, no wind noise even for an 86, super quiet ride, smooth as silk, no vibrations, and extremely reliable.

Weakness:

The gas mileage isn''t the greatest, but it''s an 86 with a V8! I get about 22 on the highway and about 15 or 16 in town.

I bought this car in March of 99 from a lady in New Jersey. I was looking for a beater to drive around and had 1,000 bucks to spend. I found this car and I couldn''t be happier with it. The car was in mint condition when I bought it. Not one flaw on it. This one had been babied and the lady was just too old to drive it. The 4.1 V8 Engine has never given me a problem. It runs smooth and starts reliably every single time even in sub zero temperatures. I''ve put over 50,000 miles on this car since I bought it and I haven''t replaced a thing. I just change the oil and other fluids and general maintenance. The interior is super comfortable and roomy and VERY quiet. Going 85 mph down the highway, I can''t hear the engine or any wind noise. Just the hum of the tires on the pavement. I got this thing up to 110 mph driving across the Oklahoma panhandle and it was super smooth and quiet. There were absolutely no vibrations. It felt like I was sitting still. I''ve driven this car across the US several times and it has never let me down. In September, I took it on a 3,000 mile road trip to Colorado. I drove up Pikes Peak and other big mountains and it ran strong and reliably the whole way. I had an 85 Eldorado with the same motor and it was a great car as well. I LOVE this Cadillac and it was the best 1,000 dollars I ever spent. I wish I could say the same things about my 92 Bonneville SSEi, but I can''t. I drive my Cadillac almost everywhere now. The ONLY thing I''ve had happen to me was the armrest on the drivers side door got a small crack in the leather or vinyl or whatever it is. It''s in the spot where I always lean on with my elbow when I drive. I was looking to buy a beater, and wound up getting the best car I''ve ever owned and I''ve owned a LOT of different cars.

roominess , comfort , practicality ( for my business use ) .

Weakness:

weak brakes ( may need pads ) . Low rev-but torquey v8 . Fuel economy not the best but what do you expect - this car''s huge !

my 1989 fleetwood is still a bit of an anomaly for me . my last car was a ''89 porsche 944 turbo - which i sold three years ago when i moved to england to study at exeter university . that car bone stock would hit 60mph in 5.5 secs , 100mph in 14.8 secs and keep going to 168 mph , and i went and added about 100 more horsepower after that !! but now i am enjoying my old cadillac a lot . i needed a large roomy luxury car to show my clients around in ( i am a realtor in dallas ) . and my mother''''s fiance had a bunch of cars, so i took this prestine cady off his hands . i have only put a few thousand miles on it , and i find it very relaxing to drive . i did own a bmw 7 series for about a year - because you can''''t show a family houses in a modified 380hp porsche turbo . i enjoyed the bimmer , which definitely was a lot faster and performance oriented than my fleetwood but the maintenance bills were spectacular ( not in a good way )! so far my cady has been great , the 4.5 litre v8 has enough torque so as not to feel overburdened . the brakes are a bit weak -but this is not a big issue since i don''''t speed much anymore and keep my distance for these nutty , inattentive , turn signal challenged , tailgating , speedy gonzalez drivers around here ( no offence ) ! my fleetwood is white with the white padded roof and burgundy cloth interior and of course the fleetwoods had the genuine cherrywood trim . and it has 97k miles , the paint and body are near perfect and it has always been garaged - the original owner was a very wealthy lady in florida and she kept good maintenance records. i love the roominess and so do my clients and my friends . my friends may make fun of my "land yacht" sometimes , but they always want me to drive when we go to dinner or a film - so maybe they have some issues ( closet cadillac cases ) ! i am looking to buy a newer car in the next six months - i will look at a wide range of products . before i happened to purchase this fleetwood i would never have thought of owning a cadillac but now i will at least test drive a couple before i make a move to a newer luxury car . p.s. - i need to find the cherrywood radio bezel to replace the original - damaged when the original stereo was snatched -rennsport1@juno.com or rschalij@dgriffin.com

Drives and rides beautifuly!!!

Weakness:

The horn is to hard to blow. The front seats do not go back far enough. Can not read the clock or the temp. from the drivers seat in the day time. Uses a Qt. of oil every 2000 miles. Bad paint job by tail light & paint dripping from trunk lid, Diamond Bright paint! Front left turn signal does not work most of the time. Garage said they couldn''t fix it uless it is brought in not working. The sun visors are hard to use, not as efficient as the one on our Park Ave. Buick. The oil dipstick has no holes in it and I can not tell the oil level. The arm rest is to hard, I get a sore elbow while driving. the seat heat button on the arm rest is to high, it goes on when just using the arm rest.

If you want a great ride, good gas mileage, a pleasure to drive, then the Deville is car to buy. I can drive it 880 miles in one day and I am 73.

Great interior trim colour white leather with red trim, pearl white with silver mouldings, moonroof, and the most comfortable seats of any Cadillac yet 4.9 is extremely powerful (200hp) yet very fuel efficient for it''s size.

Weakness:

Power Antenna''s break and are $300.00

I have owned 3 Caddy''s in my lifetime, but my 1991 Cadillac Sedan Deville has by far been one of the best cars I have owned to date. I had a 1976 Seville good car but not perfect, I had an 1988 Deville with the 4.5 Liter which was junk (changed the motor 3 times in 78,000 km''s). The 4.9 Liter is a diehard motor, brought mine back from West Palm Beach Florida 2 years ago. I get 29 MPG if I baby it and 21MPG in the city. It runs quiet, smooth, efficiently, and better yet nothing has broke down in the last 86,000km except the alternator. I also changed the front brakers. What more can one want for $10,200 CDN. I was so happy I just bought my wife a 93 Fleetwood Sixty Special for $14,900 (same car, engine) with only 64,000km on it. She loves it to. If anyone wants to talk about past horror stories of the 4.1 or 4.5, or want to talk about the newer 4.9 liter and 4.6 liter North Star caddies, drop me a line at caddyman93@hotmail.co

Strength:

It looks Great.
It runs Great, with lots of power.
It is more comfortable than a reclining chair.
The cadillac symbol on the hood shines in the sunlight.

Weakness:

The power windows are a little to slow in the cold.
It obviously burns a lot of gas.

I would recomend this car to anyone who has class and who likes to relax when they drive. And to occasionally peel out at a stop light and burn any second or third rate normal car that wants to challenge you.

Fake wood, no door sill plates, expected better pick-up from the 275 hp Northstar

This is a review of a 2000 Cadillac DeVille after a test drive we took. We drove the base model, so it's not the DTS or DHS. My impressions? It's a great car. What a ride!! So smooth on the highway that you are barely aware that you are in motion. The 4.6 litre Northstar is silky smooth and suits this car very well. There are loads of rear seat room and trunk space. The interior offers many luxurious amanities, like sweet-smelling leather seats (heated front AND rear), radio and climate controls on the steering wheel, and 10 way power front seats. However, I was disappointed by the absence of door sill plates. Auto makers like Infiniti, Lexus, and Mercedes have beautiful chrome door sill plates, while this Caddy has only a strip of plastic. The interior is nice and weill laid-out, but it sometimes looks a little plasticky, and, on the base model, you can only get FAKE wood trim (it looks pretty real though). Still, this was an excellent car.

Strength:

Dependable, car starts up every time with no problem.
Floats down the road
Acceleration is magnificent
Engine will run and run and run, transmission will go before 100K, but engine never will.

Weakness:

Biggest weakness is the suspension leveling motor. You will always have a leak in the hose somewhere and the motor will wear itself and your battery out trying to keep the car level. Car rides fine however, no difference whatsoever with the leveling motor connected or disconnected.

Another weakness is the front passenger window, always slow or gives out, no matter what the Caddy year. Alignment can get out of whack easily.

To maintain this car shop around. I've gone to one dealer, and was charged $800 for something, drove 50 miles to a rural caddy dealer and was charged $250 for the same exact repair. Guess which one got my business?

I bought this car in 1998, it had 195,000 miles on it, and I was a lil weary. It now has over 215,000 and still riding strong. It has lots of dents, and dings, (mostly from before I bought it) but the car rides whisper quiet and takes to the highway like a King. Comfortably seats 5-7 people.

When I bought it, it had oil leaks galore. Replaced the oil pan gasket and some seal on the axles. It still leaks oil everywhere, and the transmission needs 10-15 minutes to warm up in cold weather, otherwise you'll never get out of 1st gear. Literally!@!@!@! But I give her about a quart of oil every 2 weeks to make up for the oil leaks, and she rides well, and never ever let me down.

The absolute worse thing about this car is the Leveling Suspension motor. If you have one lil leak in the line, the motor will keep running nonstop even when the engine is off, trying to level it. The maintenance on trying to find the leak in the leveling hoses can run you into the poor house. I find it cheaper to just change the battery after it runs down from the leveling motor, (normally once every 9 months) instead of spending $800 trying to rehose a 11 year old car.
