1.8T Quattro
Strength:
QUATTRO. Love the Xenon headlights.
Weakness:
The 1.8T engine could use more horsepower. I bought this car back in April 2002. I ordered one from another dealership in Dallas in Dec. 2001. My car never came in. They originally told me 3 months. So I called them up in 3 months and then the dealership said my car was lost/missing in Germany. Finally they called me back to tell me it would be here late May or beginning of June. Ridiculous!!!!I ordered the car Dec. 15th 2001. It also took the Dallas dealership So that day I called The Audi Store in Plano. They had the same car I ordered on the lot(Dolphin Grey -1.8T Quattro Tiptronic, Premium PKG, Sport PKG, Xenons). I picked it up the next morning. I love this car. I plan on buying an Avant next year for my wife. The only complaint I have is Audi needs to boost the horsepower on the 1.8T to aound 220-240 range. Other than that the car has been great. I took it to the hill country in Texas and it performed beautifully. Best car I've owned---so far. Weakness:
Clutch at times, AM reception is horrendous. No more NPR or AM950THEFAN for me. I have been doing research on this car for a long time and finally bought it last month. If you live in the Denver Area, I recommend you not to go to the Audi dealerships there. They make you feel like they are doing you a favor by selling you a car. Instead drive down to Springs and ask for Sergio at Phil Long. He gave me a great deal and had everything ready as promised. Coming to the car, I put in 4000 mi in just over a month and driving it is just a pleasure. Taken it in to the mountains here in CO and driving it on the curved, mountainous road was just awesome. There are a lot of cars in this price range and with a lot of features, but if you are looking for driving pleasure, this is the car to buy. I commute 85mi a day and enjoy every bit of it and this car has made me an aggressive driver to a certain extent. |

Looks nice.
Weakness:
In 2 years have had about 8 headlights replaced (lost track of exactly how many), radio replaced, check engine light 'fixed' about 4 times, cooling system leak fixed twice, and numerous other problems. I've had it - this car stinks! This car is nothing short of a hunk of junk. It drives real nice when it's not in the shop, but I'm sick and tired of having to continually bring it in for repair of nagging little problems. Similar Products Used: Lexus, Camry and other Toyota products, which I'm going back to. |

At 6,840.00 miles, it broke. Don't know what happen, but it is sitting at a dealer ship 2 hrs. aways from my home. I was on vacation. Had to use the roadside assistance to get it towed. Told I would only get reimbursed $35 a day. Not good enough, was never offered the Trip remimbursed (up to 100 a day), had to fight for that. Still waiting to hear what the heck happen to my beloved A4 2002. Love this car, but with everything there are draw backs. Don't feel like getting into it. |

.5 Audi A4
Strength:
Quattro, build quality, luxury and style
Weakness:
no power seats on my 1.8t version (we're really quibbling here).. and I don't like the auto-dimming mirrors not the cheapest choice, but the best value I've had my A4 for almost a year now.. it just hit 22k miles last week.. I have a 4 mile commute to work, but I still put on over 500 miles a week (mostly pleasure driving) a month after I got the car, I attended an Audi Drivers Training Course at Road America (Elkhart Lake, WI).. I had 2 days of track time (about 400 miles) at speeds up to about 115 mph.. with an average of 80 mph.. I was blown away by how my 1.8t with the sport package handled.. I've never had so much confidence in a car.. the only drawback is that I now tend to drive a bit aggressively all the time.. LOL also, the Quattro has proven itself to be worth every penny in our Wisconsin winters.. I put on Nokian snow tires, and I've never had my wheels lose traction.. even one particular day, when I was watching rescue vehicles sliding off the road into the ditch, I merely held my speed and drove past.. quite a change from 'white knuckle driving' I was so used to in the past as for build quality.. it's hard to imagine a better car.. I'm sure you get more with a Bentley or Aston Martin.. but this car beats everything else I looked at in the price range.. and you can't get a better warranty! 4/50k that covers everything but tires? it's just a shame that I'll hit 50k in 2 years.. I'll just have to extend the warranty to 5/100k another thing to mention.. perhaps it's because it's german engineering, but this car loves to do long-distance driving at high speeds.. I regularly drive at 85 mph on the interstate, and because there's no additional road noise, my passengers would swear we're doing 70.. except for the fact that I'm constantly passing other cars I HIGHLY recommend this car.. altho I personally prefer the pre-2002 version as far as looks, but I hear the 2002 model performs even better |

Audi A4 3.0Q
Strength:
Handling with quattro and sport package, general interior and exterior fit and finish is superb. Nice growl from the 3.0 V6 engine.
Weakness:
Exterior mirrors too small. If I bothered about such things I would say that the cup holders are awkwardly placed but other than that nothing else right now. I''ve owned VW''s and Audi''s for the last 16 years. The fit and finish are superb and so far no problems. It''s not the fastest car I''ve ever driven but my experience with engines from VW and Audi is that they do not begin to come alive until a few thousand miles are on them. It''s only then that one begins to appreciate what they can do. Right now the engine is still very tight at 1500 miles. The handling is first class with the mix of quattro and sport package. It can really bring a smile to your face. I''ve tried hard to break it in gently for the first thousand miles or so. The interior is very classy and luxurious. I bought the leather option with heated seats, sunroof, premium package and sport package. My only gripe is that the exterior mirrors are too small and that the clutch right now is a little grabby, but this will improve after a few miles. In conclusion I''m extremely pleased with the car. It''s a great package and a very good alternative to the BMW. Both cars obviously have their good points, but the Audi has the right attributes for me. A4 1.8T
Strength:
Quatro lives up to reputation.
Weakness:
Build quality. I would avoid the turbo engine. Audi USA customer advocates are also not interested in helping maintain customers. This was my first foray purchasing a luxury/sports sedan. I had always admired Audi''s percieved value and performance when compared against its two main competitors. But, the car has recently shown a disturbing lack of quality. This is a vehicle that has seen every service check-up and oil change in its existence. While it has 97k miles, most have been on the expressway with little stop and go or other more wearing forms. I just had the head gasket replaced, the turbo was found to be non-operating when the gasket was being replaced, and 3 days after those items were fixed, the oil pump started going out. None of these was a cheap repair. I work with people who hang on to Hondas with well over 100k miles who have never had anything near the major problems I have had with this vehicle. It''s embarassing, not to mention outrageously expensive. Similar Products Used: None, and not again either. |

A4 2.8
Strength:
Style, price, interior.
Weakness:
Could use some faster acceleration, sunroof gives some gaff. You should''ve seen the look on my face when I finally bought the car. What a change from what I used to be driving! Leather, power EVERYTHING, great gauges, etc. Just sitting in the nice, German cabin was great. Turning the car on yielded a smooth hum somewhat quieter than a BMW''s, yet with equal growl after 5000 rpm. I was skeptical at first to buy an Audi without Quattro...but let me tell you, it''s still an Audi. The 2.8 L V-6 gives great pull on the highway, and I''ve quashed it all the way up to 125 (5 more and you''re at the electronic limit) with no problem. The traction control for the FWD isn''t perfect, but there is a noticeable difference under hard acceleration. With the ASR engaged, the A4 non-quattro won''t reduce its tires to a pile of dust, which the torquey engine easily does. My favorite feeling in the car (along with the 400-watt subwoofer in my trunk) is slipping into third gear with the short, leather shifter, and just letting the engine go through 2000, 2500, and then feeling some nice push at 3500. Weakness:
Quality control Traded a 99.5 2.8 a4 for this one. In all respects, it is a better designed, better driving car. Overall, I''m pleased. But the quality control leaves something to be desired. The following problems existed at delivery, or shortly thereafter. Gritty areas on the paint, heated mirrors not working, sunroof rattles, climate control occasionally quirky in manual mode, rear armrest does not go back into position properly, one of the key fobs not working properly, radiator fan squeaking. The dealership is good and will get everything fixed, but obviously Audi dropped the ball on this one. |
