Audi A4 Quattro V6
Strength:
Quattro, build quality, smooth quiet ride.
Weakness:
lackluster acceleration. I purchased this car used in 1999 with 63,00 miles on it. I now have 110,000 miles and still love it. It has been almost trouble free, I did have to replace three wheel bearings, but other than that no problems. I am amazed at how many compliments I still get on a car that will turn 7 years old in 2003! I really appreciate the quattro in the winter here in Iowa where I drive 40 miles(round trip)to work each day and they are on narrow rural roads where I see about 20 cars a winter in the ditch. My only complaint is the lackluster acceleration, though I hear the 2002 model is much improved in this area. |

Strength:
Great handling, smooth ride, great body style, the interior is very simple and elegant.
Weakness:
Manual seats, no radio controls on steering wheel. Could use a large windshield wiper tank, after using it a couple of times, the out of washer fluid light comes on. I hope someone from Audi gets the msg that 170hp is too small for the A4. Other manufacurers have had over 200hp on a 4cyclinder engine, what is Audi waiting for? My car is an A4 1.8T Manual, with sports pkg, premium pkg, xenon headlights, bose speakers, silver. I got it after totaling my Jetta in 45mph accident. Can you believe that? I am okay, thanks to seat belts! It took me almost 2 weeks to shop around for the best deal on the A4. During that time I got all bad news from current and previous owners of the A4. Most of which, was each person having different likes. Overall the car was great. The additional options cost money, but are totally worth it. I've had mine for 7 months and love it. Nothing, but compliments from the ladies! Best car to own, it has more value than it competition. I have logged 9K miles and between going to work and going up the winding roads at Big Bear, California enjoyed every mile of the driving. The A4 is a great car, if you need more power and can afford it get the S4 so you don't miss 1 sec of power. Similar Products Used: Jetta |

Strength:
The 4wd system is a pleasure. Acceleration is good. Styling is fantastic. Build quality is high, and structurally the car is very strong. I have mounted several pavements with little or no damage to avoid trucks and other maniacs on the road. The rims were not even buckled where my previous toyota would have needed new mag rims.
Weakness:
The car could have a little more power, and the fuel consumption could be better. Maybe a 2.8T would have been a good idea. With a free advanced drivers course for real aficionados. I have the 2.8 Quatro sport. In short its a Superb car. I have driven in the BMW 330i, as well as the 328i. While the Audi lacks slightly in terms of power compared with the 330i, I feel that overall its a wonderfully safe, comfortable and powerfull car. It is very responsive, and is far more capable than other sedans due to its permanent 4wd. It is safe in wet weather, and is safe in conditions where other japanese cars or even bmws would have put the driver into particularly dangerous situations. Similar Products Used: I used a BMW 328i, E36 and a Toyota 160i gle, neither of which are as safe, although the bmw is as powerfull. |

Strength:
The car is stylish inside/out. The ride is firm. The trunk is roomy. The connection between rear seats and the trunk is vey well designed. Audi provides good maintainace service.
Weakness:
Not reliable. The defect in the alarm system seems well known by burglary community. I was told that 2002 models have improved alarm system. You had better check it out. The car is stylish and the ride is firm. But it is not reliable. I bough the car new, and the mileage is now 10045 mi. There have been three problems with my car. The first problem happened when I was in the middle of the road in Vermont to visit friends. At an intersection, the car did not accelerate no matter how hard I pressed the gas padel. It took six hours for the car to be towed to an Audi dealer in Albony, NY where I was told the transmission was broken. The dealer gave me a loaner car. A week later, I was told the transmission was replaced and the car was ready to be picked up. I asked Audi to deliver the car, but Audi said the delivery service is provided only for A8. It took me 3 hours driving from New Jersey (where I live) to Albony to pick up the car, and another 3 hours to drive back. On the way back from Albony, the engion light went on, which was later diagnosed in NJ as the oxgen sensor burned. Less than a month after the sensor was replaced, my car was broken into by burglar(s) in the middle of a night. When I called body shop telling that there was a hole in the front door on the driver side, the guy in the shop responded "Is it Audi A4?". In the body shop, people showed me how a burglar got into the car without triggering the alarm system. Now after all thses incidents, I am becoming illusioned in Audi. I have not decided what to do with the car. Similar Products Used: Toyota. Japanese cars seem more reliable. |

/A4 1.8L
Strength:
Very smooth drive and quiet. Manual trans. is quite smooth as well. I also like the climate control.
Weakness:
See above. In addition, the 1.8L is VERY underpowered - we're talking 0-60 in about 12 seconds here. I talked to several Audi owners before I purchased this car and was expecting a long happy relationship with my new car. What I got instead was problem after problem. Granted, I probably got a bad banana in the bunch, because I'm hard pressed to find others who have had problems. I have only 35K miles and have had lots of little (and not so little) annoying problems. First, I had to have the brake disks reground when the break pads failed in under 10K miles. Second, the engine CPU died at about 15K miles, making the car *almost* unable to get to the dealership. Third, the plastic housing on the emergency brake disintegrated - I'm talking really cheap crumbly plastic here. Fourth, there is a leak in the hydraulics that causes the clutch pedal to stick in (requiring me to pull it out with my foot). Four trips to dealer haven't fixed that one, so now, I just let it be. Fifth, the other day, I was walking around the car and noticed that the plastic outer bumper unhooked and was hanging out. I managed to slam it back into place, but still, what the heck is that all about? Finally, the stock tires I got were very bad in inclimate weather. I'm currently in the process of buying another car, I've had it with this one. |

A4 1.8t Quattro Tiptronic
Strength:
Styling, handling, interior.
Weakness:
Sluggish engine Just bought my A4 couple weeks ago after my '02 VW Passat was totaled in an accident. The A4 was what I originally wanted but I didn't want to spend too much. Now that I've got my A4 I have to say that the styling and design is sharp and sporting. Best looking sport sedan out there in my opinion. Mine has sport pckg, xenon bulbs, bose audio. Interior is solid and well crafted. Very similar to my old Passat (which I think was a better value!) However, the A4's aggressive appearance is worth the extra money. So far, the only problem was a jammed cd changer which was fixed by pressing a reset button. Ride and handling is superb. The engine is a bit sluggish, maybe because of the quattro. But I'm still in the process of breaking in the engine, and won't probably rev it for another 1000 miles. So far so good. Similar Products Used: '02 VW Passat |

Strength:
exceptional build quality handling ability with sport package standard features
Weakness:
needs a few more ponies no torque below 1600rpm Seeing and driving this car on the Autobahn truly puts it in perspective. This car immediately sticks out amongst the other fine German cars I've driven since I've been stationed in Germany. The 2003 Audi 1.8T Quattro is a very good performing car for me. My model is a Doplhin Grey 5-speed,optioned with the sports package, prem. package, and xenon. It's AWD feature gives it the handling prowlness to thwart BMW 3 series in the turns, especially Germany's winding twisty backroads. This car further puts to shame most vehicles in foul weather where the quattro and ESP really shine. I highly recommend the sports package if you are interested in the fun aspect. Another aspect I think the A4 has over a number of competitors is it's standard features and interior quality. The leather has a very nice texture, the seats are supportive and can easily accomidate my 6'1" frame. The standard sound system comes with a 6-disc in-dash changer which is always nice. The trunk space is large and the opening nice. The over-all fit and finish is second to none of the cars that I've previously drove, which includes a number of the other cars I looked at in this price spectrum and a few pricier ones. The engine is smooth and has no noticable turbo lag. However, if I were to change a thing or two on the car, I would up the power output on the 1.8T another 10 hp or so. Just FYI this can be done easily seeing how the Audi TT has a 180hp and 225hp with an additional intercooler. If you are debating between a BMW 3-series and this car. For the money, the Audi is the obvious choice. Drive and compare for yourself. Similar Products Used: I've test drove these:2002 BMW 325ci, 2002 Volvo S40, 1999 Mercedes CLK 320 |

Strength:
Great handling, Xenon Headlight are awesome, 6CD in dash player...
Weakness:
None yet.... I put in a review after owning my 2002 A4 1.8T for a week. Then it was a great car, now it is the BEST car I have driven. I love getting up every day and commuting to work even if it takes me an hour.... The drive in this car is great. It handles well and it gets in and out quickly from traffic. Especially having a 5 Speed. Recommend anyone to go try one of these new A4's. Have had minor problems with it. One of my xenon lights went out, and the 6 CD player went bad, but Audi was very quick in responding and fixing the problem so it is all good. Great service department, by the way... A4 1.8T Quatro, Sport Pkg.
Strength:
Sports package, quatro handling rocks, looks awesome have gotten lots of compliments, Bose sound system is phenomenal, manual transmission is very responsive.
Weakness:
170hp I need more. The manual seat adjustments for 31G's? come on Audi!! A little small in the back seat if you're a tall person. I have a hard time backing in to a parking spot the steering wheel is quirky...whatever It comes in handy when turning on a dime. I liked this car at the beginning, after the first 1000 miles I love it. The performance is outstanding the Michellins really make a difference in the handling. The sports package is a must for this car to look really cool. The BOSE sounds system rocks. I tinted the windows early on which goes really good with the silver metallic paint job. I like the looks I get on the road, this is a very unique looking car on the road. Dealership gave me the cadillac treatment, they even loaned me a TT when I went in to have a sensor light checked. Mario is the sales guy you want to talk at Advantage, he's really cool and will treat you like a person not like another sale. I love this car, might go with a TT next time for the extra horsepower. Oh yeah, the quatro rocks I look forward to taking a tight curb on the road or just avoiding something on the road. Similar Products Used: Rice cookers. |
