Audi A4 (2010 and older) Luxury

Audi A4 (2010 and older) Luxury

DESCRIPTION

The Audi A4 has a planted, sportier stance and holds the road with a new sense of confidence and enthusiasm. Its new underpinnings are shared with the S5 and A5 coupes. Thanks to the liberal use of ultra-high-strength steel, the body weighs 10 percent less than last year's, yet is more rigid.

The 2.0 T is equipped with a new 2.0-liter, I4, 211-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway for a combined fuel economy of 23-mpg. A 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The 3.2 quattro with Tiptronic is equipped with a new 3.2-liter, V6, 265-horsepower engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway for a combined fuel economy of 20-mpg. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

Strength:

The A4 is a Great handling car. Very nice fit and finish. A great combination of luxury and performance. The Quattro option (a must have for only $1700) makes this car stand out from the competition. Great trunk space, beautiful interior, very quiet and a superb premium stereo system.

Weakness:

Car understeers a little more than my BMW. While looks are subjective, the A4 isn't as sporty looking as a BMW 3 series. The rear seat room is poor.

I paid less than the MSRP of $35,000 and I would very heartily recommend it. If money isn't an issue (yeah, right) then the BMW 328 is a superior car (but not necessarily the 323). Of course, for the nearly $40K that the 328 runs, you might want to look at the Audi S4 . . .

I test drove the A4, the BMW 323 and the Acura 3.2TL. Not to mention the BMW 325iS that I own now. The A4 is a wonderful car to drive. Personally, I don't feel quite as "connected" to the car as in a bimmer. There's something about a BMW, I guess. None the less, I purchased the A4 becuase it was very close to the BMW in performance (and actually, it is probably superior to the 323 and only pales in comparison to the 328), it is the only car in its class with all wheel drive, it has a beautiful interior, and it is priced very competively to the BMW. The Acura surprised me with how well it drove, and the standard features of the Acura are extensive, but when sitting inside one it still feels like a Honda and it doesn't handle as well as either of the German cars.

Strength:

style: love both the sedan and avant.
interior: is sweet. simple lines, not obtrusive and elegant.
performance: 1.8T is responsive. great on 70-80mph freeway speeds (talk about SMOOTH). quick on the first gears. and handling of the quattro is the best. no other car i've driven compares.

Weakness:

the steering is a little too forgiving. i like a tighter steering control. this goes the same for the stick shift. i like a shift that harder. the shift is 'nice' and easy, but if you want to drive hard it feels just a little too soft. i like a car that needs a little bit of work to drive. call me weird.

the turbo kicks in a little late on first gear.

i would highly recommend this car to anyone who likes to drive. it's comfortable, stylistic, and QUATTRO has got be the edge on this car. handling is one of the best. perfect for an outdoors person who goes up to the mountains in style.

near flawless fit, finish. solid, quality feel. decent trunk, optional fold down seat is a plus. appearance and overall driving experience first rate. handling. instruments and controls. free/dealer service excellent. quattro++++. optional sound system. interior appointments. ......german.

Weakness:

useless cup holders. sometimes choppy ride. 2.8/stick (20 valve) not sporty, broad smooth torque curve. cd changer in trunk steals room, inconvenient. back seat really makes this a big 2+2. i'm 5'11" and can't get 'perfect' driving position = discomfort. i think the

1st audi owned and in 20k miles it has been satisfying, despite the 'weaknesses' above. i am picky.

this car frequently used as high speed commuter by my wife, instilling confidence in both of us. i replace the wide 16" tires w 4 grippy snows/wheels for winter. it feels safe and competant in any situation, especially for a smaller sedan.

this car has all the options and stickered in high 30s. paid about 35. so 'value' part of equation not tops.

in snow country, the quattro is the tie breaker. i am seriously considering the 2.7t vs. bmw 540i.

a4 sedan recommended for singles, couples, very small families. small families might like the avant wagon.

QUATTRO!, Gorgeous styling (I still look back at it after parking after over a year), Solid road feel, sticky handling, Chipability = quickness, perfect interior - the Audi environment (red lights, turbo whoosh, heated seats)

Weakness:

Apparently my friends find the rear seat a bit cramped at times. Too bad.

I wholeheartedly recommend the A4 for anyone who truly enjoys driving. If you decide to go with the 1.8t (amazing engine) get a chip from APR (www.goapr.com) to bring you to 200HP, 214 lb/ft torque in ten minutes!!!

Put simply, after driving this car for a year, I don't know what I'd do if I ever had to drive anything else. (besides an S4 or a 993 Porsche.

Model Reviewed: .5 2.8 Quattro

Strength:

Conservative yet stellar design, German handling, Throaty V6, Great attention-to-detail...

Weakness:

Cup holders are laughable - even the updated ones. Rear seats a bit tight, a little noisy at highway speeds

If you haven't had the opportunity to drive a German car -- go do it. The A4 is no exception and the Quattro just makes the driving experience that much better. This car will not dissapoint and is a true driver's car (especially if you opt for the V6 with a manual gearbox). If you want to baby it you can do that, too - it's always happy and does exactly what you tell it.

The weaknesses I mentioned above are tolerable for me and the noisy highway driving isn't all that bad -- i'm just really anal about noise. The upper cup holder is not only small but really flimsy.

The fuel mileage is about what you'd expect; I average around 17.5 in the city and 26 on the highway.

Great car for someone with good taste, but wants something a bit more conservative than a BMW or Mercedes (and wouldn't think of owning a RWD). Dont get me wrong, I test drove all three Germans and loved them - but I always came back to the Audi dealer. There are fewer A4's on the road, its got more bang for the buck, and the lines on this car are absolutely timeless - especially compared to the duck-billed look of the newer BMW 3 series (IMHO). I really feel that this car WAS WORTH the money I paid for it - and I'm not just shelling out $$$ for trendiness and a fancy name.

On a slightly more important note, I have never felt more safe in a car. Airbags all the way around, stick to the road suspension and quality build all add up to a very secure feeling.

Strength:

AWD, Great low end torque Max at 1750rpm and keeps on pulling, easy to add chip to gain 50 Hp more,
holds the road like she on a track and plenty of warning before waking out

Weakness:

Back seat a little tight.

This is truly a great car for the real world. The Quattro system is a charm and possibly could save your life. Traction control in other cars is of some help but never will it be a match or even come close, do not let anyone fool you.
If the A4 is not fast enough please try the S4, try to pull away from a stop and don't be afraid to push it, it will not let you down. The 2.7T also has great low end torque.

Strength:

Beautiful design (inside and out), has a real personality, comfortable seats, peppy performance, true German handling, useful computer display, digital heating controls, nice base stereo system, oodles of safety features, fun!

Weakness:

Weak remote control, back seats on the small side. The Germans still don't know how to make cup holders, the back side airbags should be mounted on door

If you're willing to spend this much money on a passenger car, you can't go wrong. The station wagon model is very attractive, it handles extremely well, and has a genuine German feel to it. The stereo system is awesome, and the digital heating controls are insanely nice. But make sure your beverages stay pint sized and the backseat passengers have good balancing skills.

The Audi has a ton of safety features, and while it is smart to put the side airbags inside the seat in the front, it makes no sense for the back where the seats cannot be adjusted. Tell your kids not to rest their head on the seat side nearest the door. Also, the remote works only from about 5 feet away.

Otherwise, this is a truly amazing car!!! If you can afford it, get it!

Looks. Quickness. Handling. Attention to detail.

Weakness:

Slightly underpowered with the 1.8T. Suspension feels like a sports car more than a luxury car.

Overall this car is a sweet deal. We had our eye on this car for about a year before we ordered it. Well worth the wait. This car is beautiful and I recommend silver - the best looking color and easy to maintain - always looks clean and scratches don't show up.

The handling is a little bumpy and the 1.8T is a little underpowered. In retrospect we would have preferred shelling out the extra $5k and getting the 2.8. The chip upgrade supposedly takes the 1.8 from 150 to 190 HP so we're going to investigate that.

Overall, a great car and about the best around for under $30k. Quattro is great for handling and means we can take it to the snow!

Model Reviewed: A4 2.8 Quattro

Strength:

An all-around winner. Beautiful, understated design, both inside and out. Solid, without a rattle after 4 years. Handles beautifully - very sure footing especially with the quattro system. Even with the older 12 valve V6 (174 hp) a quick car, with excellent passing power.

Weakness:

Small back seat, but still okay for two adults. Electrical system infrequently erratic (dashboard) - a seemingly common problem with German cars.

An excellent value for someone who wants a car that performs well, can carry four adults, and feels solid. Designed by people who actually like to drive, not a committee interested in costs, demographics and gadgetry. Materials and fit and finish are almost unparalled. Get in ANY American car that costs bout the same ($25K+) and compare the experience of just SITTING in the car. The Audi feels serious, well-designed and crafted with care. Your typical American car (even the new Lincoln LS, which is a giant leap in the right direction) feels like a cheap plastic toy in comparison. And then DRIVE the car. The Audi is smooth, fast and agile. It makes the driver feel secure and in control. It does everything well.

A comparable BMW is more expensive, a little faster, and spartan. Mercedes bore me. Most of the Japanese cars seem soulless in comparison. And unfortunately, the US STILL have not cracked into this league.

This car delights.

handling, solid build, loaded with features, snob appeal

Weakness:

uncomfortably small, engine could use a few more horses, overpriced

After driving a 2.8 500+ miles, I have to say I was less than blown away. I think the A4 could be a better value if it had a few more horses and was a tad bigger. I'm only 5'11" and I felt terribly cramped after driving for a while. The seats are supportive but a little too firm, long drives result in sore backs. On the plus side the handling was very good and the car comes with all the bells and whistles.
