Audi A4 (2010 and older) Luxury

Audi A4 (2010 and older) Luxury

DESCRIPTION

The Audi A4 has a planted, sportier stance and holds the road with a new sense of confidence and enthusiasm. Its new underpinnings are shared with the S5 and A5 coupes. Thanks to the liberal use of ultra-high-strength steel, the body weighs 10 percent less than last year's, yet is more rigid.

The 2.0 T is equipped with a new 2.0-liter, I4, 211-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway for a combined fuel economy of 23-mpg. A 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The 3.2 quattro with Tiptronic is equipped with a new 3.2-liter, V6, 265-horsepower engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway for a combined fuel economy of 20-mpg. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

Strength:

Value, Quality, Performance

Weakness:

none, 2000 A4 1.8T comes just as you need
(well the back seat does'nt have much room)

for under $30K (I got mine for $28.2K) you can't find a funner, safer, and sportier car! and the 1.8 is a good starting place for the Ultra car enthusiest, modifications can take this vehicle to some pretty lofty heights in performance!

Strength:

Quattro is a g-dsend. Keeps your aggressive needs, desires, and thoughts glued to 4 wheels connected to the asphalt. The 2.8 liter engine is rev-happy and fun to gun. The gear ratios are pretty good, maximizing power when you want to book it off of the line quickly. Styling is GREAT. I just love how my car looks.

Weakness:

Although the car is pretty light and has a 2.8 that is revvy, this car isn't so fast off of a straight line, thanks to quatto, and even without it (in a version that I test drove)raw acceleration is nothing to brag about. The row-it-yourself manual is difficult to get used to after driving more forgiving cars like the Miata.

For the money, I don't think you can find a car with German engineering precision that is so forgiving on the road. Though you can stall out, the Audi treats a skilled driver with respect, and the quattro is great, keeping you firmly on the road while cornering hard in inclement weather. I would like to give this car a 5, like I did with the value rating, but this puppy needs a bigger, more powerful engine, to get it off the line faster. Now the S4 that I've test driven! WOW. I would give it 3 thumbs up if I had that many, but I guess I'm stuck with the A4. (Though I suppose I could be condemned to worse fates!)

1997 328iS, 1999 C280 Though the Audi doesn't have the reputation that either of these cars has, it is still a great car to have in my 3 car garage. Not as luxurious as the Benz, and not as sporting as the Bimmer, the Audi is the perfect blend of performance, luxury, and save your butt Quattro. It is a really fun car to drive.

Strength:

This is a gorgeous car! Elegant exterior and beautiful interior. The A4 handles beautifully and loves twisty roads. With the Quattro system, this car is incredible in all conditions (Wow, a car that can stay with a BMW 3-series on the track and out-do an SUV in the winter).

The 1.8T is a great engine offering plenty of low-end torque. Incredibly smooth for a 4-cylinder engine. Lots of usable power and is easily tunable with a relatively inexpensive ECU upgrade (http://www.goapr.com).

The build quality is excellent. Good size trunk.

Weakness:

Not an S4 =)

Stock engine (Canada/US) at 150hp could use a bit more power. But this is easily remedied by a chip upgrade. 2001 model year is now 170hp.

Only a 3-year warranty (but at least all scheduled maintenance is covered)

Relatively small rear seats (but not really a problem for me - I never sit back there ;-) ).

I absolutely love my A4. It's a joy to drive in any weather conditions with Quattro. With a performance chip, this car is 200hp with 245ft/lbs. Definitely get the sports package.

This car is sporty, refined, and has 4-doors. An excellent touring car!

Value wise, it's a great deal in its class. It's less expensive than a comparable BMW 3-series and more stylish than a comparable Acura. It's AWD system is superior to Subaru's, and does not exhibit the torque-steer of a Saab. All of these a good cars, but when it comes down to it: I'm glad I chose my Audi.

1988 Toyota Camry, 1991 Honda Accord, 1988 Honda Civic SI, 1989 Nissan 240SX. All of these are fine cars, but the Audi is a class above these other cars.

Test drove an Acura Integra Type-R. What a great track car, but I wanted the refinement of the A4. The A4 might not be as good on the track but the Type-R can't compete as a day-to-day car.

Strength:

Love the car. Plenty of power for my driving habits and handles great in the rain.

Weakness:

Lousy cup holder. The in-dash cup holder looks cool, but a cold soda will sweat and drip water all over the radio.

I hear the back seat is cramped, my 7 year old son does not complain, but my larger friends do. I point out how much more comfortable it is compaired to walking.

Great car for the money. I have not had a single day where I wish I had bought something else.

Crappy tires and wheels

I paid $28.1K for my car. I would recomend it to every one I see. One of the safest cars I have driven. My last one was totalled, but saved me fom serious injury! Thats why I bought it again. This is my 5th Audi, and I have nothing bad to say about them.

This car is perfect for anyone who needs a sporty, yet very luxurious car, that is safe too for about $30K.

To anyone looking for cars in this price range this is your best choice.
Nothing compares to this car. Cars I have noticed in this price range would be Honda Accords, VW Passat, Infiniti G20T, Volvo s40. None of these cars come close to the Audi A4. The only car that is fair to compare this car to is the BMW 3 series and there $5,000-$10,000 more.

Model Reviewed: 1.8t

Strength:

Power/Price Ratio, Build Quality, Tunability, Very Quiet, Style and too many more to list

Weakness:

Not many but...A little overboost on the power steering, useless cup holders and short fifth gear (manual), a little underpowered stock but can be powered up to 200 hp w/ a chip upgrade

Good Stuff (lots): A fully loaded manual for less that 30k is a steal for this car. This is an extremely well made car and is a blast to drive. Timeless exterior design with an oustanding interior which rivals even MB's. Full torque at low rpms so it is much quicker that cars with equal amounts of horsepower and holds torque to redline. The best part about this car is just driving it. After properly breaking the engine in and adding an after market ecu upgrade, A friend and I decided to take a "spirited" drive on a twisty mountain road. With Quattro in hand, let me say that this car absolutely rocks! The cornering and acceleration really stand out when driving the car hard, but even at regular city driving, the car drives great too. You feel just as confident behind the wheel at 20 as you do at 120.

Bad Stuff (not a lot)-more stock power would be nice but this can be easily upgraded. Similar complaints as most..cupholders are a joke and backseat is pretty tight but no car is perfect..this one is pretty close though. The four cylinder 1.8 is meant to be a high reving engine which is exactly how i drive it, however, at 80 mph, almost 4000 rpm is a little high. It would be really nice to drop it into a sixth gear for long trips on long roads (Vegas baby!)

My advice...get every option you can accept the automatic (1.8t is more fun to drive w/ manual). Read the other reviews here and other places (audiworld.com etc..) and you will quickly find out how many other people are raving about this model. I recommend the sportier 1.8 for those more likely to do a few aftermarket upgrades and the 2.8 for those looking for a more "refined" car (leather/wood etc..) Hope this review helps and hope to see you out on the road with your new car soon :)
