3.5RL
Strength:
It is a Honda product. Fit, finish, ride quiet, stereo, etc. etc. etc.
Weakness:
Sun visor extension missing, present in '02. Would be nice if doors locked automatically a few seconds after car is under way, but the switch is handy for that purpose. Guess that in Japan, this is not a priority. The Honda motor company makes great products. Not flashy, but represent solid value. Just check Accords, Civics, Odessey, MDX, 3.2TL, all class toppers. I have been driving their products since 1983 when I bought my first Accord. In 1986, I bought the new EX. I kept that car for many years and put on over 330,000 KLM or 204k miles. I gave it to my neighbour who has put on another 100KLM or 62k miles. In 1997 I bought a used 92 Legend LS great car. Beautiful design. I bought it for $19,500, used it five years and traded it for a 1998 3.5RL. With the trade, I paid 19,500. I have been driving this car for about two months and to date, nothing has caused me displeasure. I love this car, especially to drive. The shape is also growing on me. The 3.5 is the Rodney Daingerfield of Luxury cars. It is the victim of snobbery from BMW, Lexus and Benz driver and want-to-be drivers. It gets no respect and that is just fine with me. If more of those snobs would get off their high horses and step into the RL, the streets would be crowded with them. Then, I would not feel so Special!! Similar Products Used: Accord and Legend |

Strength:
Handling, ride, stereo, looks, comfort-seats are fantastic! Fit and finish, reliability, solid and quiet.
Weakness:
Not much, could be a little more powerful though 225 horsepower really kicks in when you need it. Am glad most people are ignorant to Acura''s superiority over Lexus, it makes my car more unique and memorable. I love my Car! Handles well, quiet, good ride, well built, people take a second look and admire it the more they look at it. I know it''s looks are more on the conservative side but it is handsome and looks more expensive than it is. |

Acura 3.5 RL
Strength:
Nice design, good value for the price at first blush, very spacious, luxury options, smooth at high speeds, superb dealer service.
Weakness:
Premature repair or noises on front and rear suspension parts, intolerable drive train vibrations that could not be cured, noisy rear wheel bearings, transmission clicking first to second gear......after tranny replacement same noise started to appear 6 months later and I sold the vehicle. Overall I really tried to like this car and I did in many respects but in the end I lost faith in the mechanical and technical aspects of the car. Far too many weaknesses for the Acura reputation. The dealer service however was exceptionally good. Hopefully the newer models have got the bugs out. Similar Products Used: Chrysler 5th Avenue, Lexus GS300 |

Acura 3.5RL
Strength:
Great ride, great fit and finish, bullet proof reliabilty, decent dealer service, decent gas mileage and in the premium version comes fully equipped (only option is nav. system)
Weakness:
I would like to have dual climate controls--that is the only feature I miss. Like many of you I have owned several cars(Q45, Lexus 400, 3 mercedes,etc.)--I also owned an acura legend. This car constantly amazes me--it may not be the best in any one area--however it excels in all areas. It is hard to find a single fault with this car. Considering it has bullet proof reliability, gets decent gas mileage, and provides a very comfortable and quiet ride(even at 80-90mph it is very quiet)--it is very hard to justify the thousands of extra dollars for a lexus, Q, or mercedes. You can find these cars used for a very reasonable price--drive one before you decide on something else. Be sure you get the premium model--comes with cd,moon roof, traction control etc. Similar Products Used: Lexus Ls400, Q45, Legend, Mercedes300,400,500 E class, Corvette C5 |

Strength:
Look the only difference from this car and it''s more expensive counterparts ie; LS400 and Q45 is the engine. My car has everything those cars have except the V8 and at a difference of about fifteen thousand dollars I can live without the V8. Besides I get better gas milage!
Weakness:
handling is too soft not as solid as a BMW or Mercedes I drove nice Honda Accords for 4 years and I upgraded to the best honda sedan on the market. . .the 3.5RL and I must say I love every inch of it! I got a 97'' with 31000 miles on it for $22500, about 4 or 5 thousand under blue book. Not only that but I got a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warrenty that covers everything, even electronics because there are 8 onboard cpu''s. This car has the best V6 I''ve ever driven(excluding the BMW M3) and it has all the luxeries ever needed, however if you''re like me then you need sportiness(I was about to buy an RX-7 but the insurance is out of this world when you''re only 20 years old). . .so there is a place called Comptech Motorsports that upgrades the RL. It''s basically the only place where you can purchase aftermarket parts for a 3.5RL. I''ve added a high-flow air filter, cross-drilled rotors and competiton brake pads which has given my RL a performance boost. I still plan on getting a front strutbar, brake lines, 18inch rims, and they even have lowering springs that lower it 1.5" in the front and 1.2" in the rear, if you use the lowering springs make sure you buy the koni adjustable shocks and camber kit as well. After all those mods my RL will not only be very luxerious but will handle, accelerate and brake as well as any other luxery sedan! Oh yeah and don''t forget this car is beautiful as well, especially with all tinted windows and 18inch rims. Similar Products Used: Lexus LS400 Infinity Q45 BMW 528i Mercedes E320 |

Strength:
Price, Styling, & Reputation for dependability.
Weakness:
I wish the RL came w/a indash CD and no tape deck. Dual climate controls would be nice. I sometimes feel the transmission shift hard during hard acceleration. I also miss the passanger side mirror reverse tilt feature which is standard on the BMW 740iL and on the 2002 Acrura TL-S type. What''s up with that? The middle of the line car comes equiped with that feature but the flag ship of Acura doesn''t? Head protection in case of a side impact could be improved w/a side pillar air bag instead of the side air bags which are located in the front seats. Oh yes, I also wish it came w/all mantaince covered for a specific period of time, 36,000.00 for example. Also the same glamour of owning an Acura that would rival almost all other luxury imports. This is my first luxury car and I must say for the most part I am very pleased. I have coworkers that have MB''s, BMW''s, Audi''s, etc. For the money I think I did very well. Strength:
A lot of standard equipment. Navigation system is super in operation and easy of use.
Weakness:
Priced too low for a luxury car. Naviagtion info is a little old for a 2000 model. I like the outside mirror to do auto dimming too. Average MPG only 18. Would like to have a 22G gas tank. This car is very smooth. No complain on anything as far as quality and reliability goes. Very quite. I think this is why they do not want to put V8 engine. It is not like you will ever need more power. Only thing the V8 can do is increase price and noise while lower MPG. Similar Products Used: Lexus RX300 |

Strength:
conservative styling, impressive engine, ergonimics of the interior.
Weakness:
suspension to soft for cornering. I brought the RL in 98''(plum color ). It drove lovely. As a pre-owned purchase, I was very satisfied with my choice. The car does handle well at high speed (120mph) and can take whatever you throw at it. Since the 96'' model, Acura has finetuned the RL to respond better. I am looking forward to driving the 2002 model equip with eveything it has to offer. Similar Products Used: Nissan Maxima, Lexus GS300, |
