Volvo C70 Convertibles

Volvo C70 Convertibles

DESCRIPTION

The Volvo C70 is a four-seater convertible with brilliant styling and elegant lines, and the retractable hardtop is an engineering masterpiece.

The C70 is powered by a 227-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-five engine matched with a six-speed manual transmission. A five-speed automatic transmission with Geartronic is optional.

Safety features include electronic stability and traction control and anti-lock brakes with brake force distribution. In addition to the required front airbags, there are side airbags in front, and air curtains which activate upwards from the doors, even with the windows rolled down. The Rollover Protection System, a pop-up rollbar, is activated by a "pyrotechnic charge", which will smash the rollbars through the glass if the roof is up.

Strength:

Unique style copied by Mercedes Outstanding fit and finish Quick

Weakness:

Heavy feel in the twisties Slow power seat when accessing rear seats (Passenger power seat currently not working!) Low profile tires can give a rough ride when not on smooth roadways

I found this car in the corner of a luxury used car store in August 2002 - what a find. I'm surprised by all the comments referring to turbo-lag. I have the 5-speed and don't notice it at all - very quick - at least a 6.2 to 60MPH and not many quicker accelerating out of 3rd or 4th gear. Although now over 5-yrs old, it still looks new - great silver finish.

Strength:

Truly beautiful-Both inside and out. Fast and fun to drive. Seat comfort and quality of optional premium leather. Sound quality of optional premium audio system. Pretty exclusive, coupes at least. Large trunk. Room for four people.

Weakness:

Visibility out rear when backing up. Painfully slow motors when accessing rear seats. Egress for portly rear seat passengers.

I love this car. My car is sort of an anti-Volvo. I have the high pressure turbo model in cassis (dark purple)color with the eighteen-inch BBS wheels and a five-speed manual transmission. I have had some parts that were fixed or replaced by the dealer during routine service stops. They include the battery, sunroof glass, rear side window glass, passenger power door lock motor and a factory recall on some of the light sockets. The turn signal bulbs had been burning out quickly. The doors have frameless windows and had to be adjusted a few times to try and MINIMIZE wind noise. My car is a very early production model. Smythe Volvo kept the car six days one time and I did not like that. The V70 loaners are relatively horrible. Within the limits of what the car is (high-powered (239hp), front-wheel drive car) , it's fun to drive. It is not a sports car by any stretch. The C70 is a true four passenger vehicle. However, overweight passengers should sit in the front seat because I've had several LARGE people get stuck part way out:) Words cannot convey the quality of the premium leather. Sadly, this option was discontinued. The Dynaudio speakers of the premium audio system are nonpareil. Note: This review is also posted under Volvo 70 series on this site.

Nice looking unique vehicle great ride and handling, outstanding value for the money. I like that you dont see very many on the streets.

Weakness:

Needs more horse power lower profile and a sunroof that doesnt gurgle when it rains.

Nice car to own it could use more horse power and a lower profile.Over all it is ia better value than a 3 series or Clk for the money. Inside and out its clean refreshing and besides sun roof gurgle in the rain its a pretty good buy. Had only i real problem which was the transmission but it was fixed by the dealer.

THIS CAR HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCES I HAVE HAD WITH A CAR SINCE I CANNOT REMEMBER WHEN. IN FOURTEEN THOUSAND MILES, BRAKE ROTORS REPLACED, RADIO REPLACES, TIRES REPLACED AND NOW THE RADIATOR. WENT TO PICK UP CAR TODAY, FOUR DAYS AFTER SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT ONLY TO FIND CAR OVER HEATED AND LEAKED COOLANT. THE SERVICE ON THIS VEHICLE IS TERRIBLE.

GOOD LOOKING CAR. WIFE GETS POSITIVE COMMENTS FROM STRANGERS ABOUT LOOKS OF CAR.

It appears that my 2001 Volvo C70 canvas convertible top was not sealed properly from the factory. Any droppings or dirt that hits the top leaves a stain. Volvo will not address this problem, even though the car is under warranty. Anybody familiar with this problem, or have any suggestions?? Thank you, Jeff

Sleek,unique design

Weakness:

The car had several problem when delivered which were not taken care of in a prompt fashion by the dealership. There still is a constant interior rattle (from some unknown location) and loud wind noise from the two front windows. In addition, the motor on one of the front windows has already burnt out. I have taken the car in numerous times for the interior noise problems, but the dealership is unable to solve them. I would not recommend this car, or any other Volvo. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a car. Unfortunatley I have another 2 years left on the lease.

Poorly designed car with equally poor service from Volvo!

Strength:

Well built ''sexy'' coupe beautifully finished both inside and out. Top class performance from a refined turbocharged engine.

Weakness:

don''t like the new automatic gearbox , old one was better as you had an option to select mose eg sport economy etc. ride a bit bumpy in city however sports supension and 17" alloys are a contributory factor.

This is my second C70, so that tells a tale, however I find the most recent one to have a serious wind noise problem from both front windows. Been back six times now with the dealer to resolve. Also suffers from buffeting at the sunroof when its raining or the car is wet, this problem was in my previous 1999 model.P.S.Has anyone else experienced the wind noise problem ?

Strength:

The car has a beautiful, sleek design. I''m glad I was given the options to choose what I wanted as far as accessories. A classy yet powerful car that turns heads.

Weakness:

When the car was delivered (at the wrong delership) there was a nickel sized hole in the leather on the driver side seat. The Volvo service department said they ordered the seat. That was 6 months ago. Still no seat. There is a constant interior rattle and also a buffeting sound is heard in the sunroof whenever it rains or when theres moisture on the car which along with the constant rattleing can be heard over the stereo system. The turn signals have gone out twice. The power windows have gone out on both driver and passenger side, twice. The motor for the windows were replaced but, the driver side window makes a grinding noise whenever I put the windows up and down. The local Volvo dealer service department has seen my car more than I have. They can''t figure out the problem. There are two differant wood finnishes in the car. Why? I made a special trip to Germany to speak to the salesman who sold me the car. His answer was giving me the phone# to Volvo of North America. Thanks. I''ve only had the car for 8 months. I thought Volvo made quality automobiles by hand with pride. Not this one. Can someone give me some help because Volvo sure isn''t.

FRUSTRATED!!!

Everything. Sound system is the best for its money.

Weakness:

Turbo is a little slow to kick in.

Great ride that will give you lots of looks. The interior is smooth and with a few modifications, the car will be one to keep in the long run. Hint for overall look: Change the rear turn signals to halogen gas filled bulbs that will give you the look that will always be noticed. An awesome car for a great price.
