Volvo C70
Strength:
Sound system. Driver & Passenger seating comfort, price and looks.
Weakness:
Rear end styling is like all other Volvos After test driving the Audi, BMW, Sebring and the Mercedes hardtop convertibles I choose this model. It wasn't the quickest, the best handeling or the best styling, but it won out by being second in just about all of the categories listed above. The real winner is the comfort of the driver & passenger seating. The sound system was the best out of all. It is remarkable. The styling is subtle, and it gets it's fair share of looks, but no sports car here. The beauty is when the top is down. This becomes an eye catcher from 0 to 120mph. I can put my golf bag and carrier in the trunk, but not with the top down, for that I move the bag to the rear seat. I have retracted the hardtop at a stop light, and believe me when I tell you all eyes were on this car. It is an orchestrated beauty when folding up or down and will have the envy of all around. I am surprised by the number of people that don't believe me when I tell them it's a convertible. When the hardtop is up, it looks like a sleek coup. The power plant is responsive, and handles well. The suspension is rigid, and performs adequatley as well. This is no high performance vehicle by any stretch of the imagination, but for it's price it wins hands down. |

Volvo C70 Turbo Convertible
Strength:
looks, performance, highway gas mileage isn't too bad (25-26mpg), quieter convertible than most, electronic top, all the great options (heated seats and mirrors, power everythingg), great sound of the sound system, great bass (although the CD player is terrible). really big trunk considering the top folds into it. overall a great car, it's loaded with features, reliable, and a beautiful car to look at.
Weakness:
it is wayyy too low to the ground in the front, it's virtually impossible to park this thing in a normal spot, if you aren't careful guaranteed you will scrape the underside of the front bumper, and if you do it enough you will eventually pull off the bumper (I know, I've done it). The CD player is garbage, it can't play burned CD's, it skips, it's awful, too bad because the sound system has fabulous sound. The backseat is difficult to get into, but that is to be expected with a coupe, it would be easier if the the actual act of trying to move the front seats forward wasn't such a project! They made that option power, Lord knows why, because it goes sooooo slow, the person trying to move the seat forward to get into the backseat could basically take a nap while they're waiting for it to move- I know Volvo wanted to make everything power but that should've been left as manual feature. The paint chips super easily, I barely tapped the side of my car with the gas pump while pumping gas and it left 2 marks and the paint chipped right off, it was chipping on the front bumper too. The tires are sooo expensive to replace. The interior looks dated, especially the dash and display. The top gets worn easily, I didn't even put it down that much while I owned it but I noticed it was starting to fray in sports- just cosmetically- it wasn't leaking, but I bet it'd have to eventually be replaced. Having to put 91+ octane in it, I usually put 93 in it, but the gas prices are brutal. Having to spend a decent amount of time at the dealership, I was there 5 or 6 times in a year, but it was always for something minor, and they were good to me. But overall the weaknesses are small considering it's a good car, I'd buy another Volvo but I can't find another C70 I like and the reviews of other Volvos are AWFUL. I'm surprised too because I liked this car so much, apparently not all Volvos are as great. But they are safe, no one can argue with that, and I can certainly attest to that! I wanted this car for years before I bought it. Brand new the car is costly (over $40,000), but used the car is a great bargain. The overall look of this car is what really draws people to it, a lot of people who don't really know much about cars often asked me if this car was a Mercedes, probably because this car has smooth lines unlike most other Volvos. This car is pretty rare and not the easiest to find, so it took me awhile to track down one with everything I wanted. I had my heart set on a white one with a tan top, and eventually found it at Steingold Volvo in Pawtucket, RI. I bought the car with 65,000 miles on it. I knew while I was purchasing it that I was overpaying a bit, which usually happens when you buy anything used from a new-car dealer, but I sacrificed because I wanted the color, and also because I knew I was probably better off buying from someone who actually knew something about Volvos. Overall I had a few issues with the car, but nothing too major. This car is a convertible so it had the obvious shakes and rattles, at first they didn't bother me, but the longer I had the car- the worse they got. I talked to other convertible owners who told me to consider myself lucky, had I purchased a cheaper brand convertible I would've had rattles ten times worse- so I considered myself lucky in that respect I suppose. The first week I had my car most of the warning lights on the dashboard came on, I called the dealership hysterical but they were very good about it and told me to drive it in immediately. The ABS module needed to be replaced, which was covered under the warranty, so they took care of it in an hour and sent me on my way, other than that I didn't have to have anything major replaced. I did have a problem with the check engine light however, it was on more than it was off. The dealership would always clear it for me and look over the car and said it had no problems, yet sure enough the light would come back on within the month. Finally after 3 trips to the dealership they found a small crack in a hose, and replaced it, changed the oil, the fluids, for under $100. However after I went over mileage for my next oil change, the check engine light came back on, and even after I got my oil changed again the light was still on. The dealership said it was just because my oil hadn't been changed in so long and cleared it and it hasn't been on since, so it wasn't a big deal. The biggest issue with the car was water leaking into it. The first time it happened my passenger floor mats were soaked, I pulled them up and off and found half an inch of water in my car! I immediately brought it to the dealership who informed me that it was due to someone installing bluetooth incorrectly, I then informed them that my cell doesn't even have bluetooth and that it must've been the first owner. They ended up needing the car overnight but took care of the problem and didn't charge me. I was incredibly happy with their service, however 2 months later the floor was wet again. They were apologetic and took the car in again and found that something called my "convertible drains" were clogged, great. They cleaned them out and the car was water-free. However about a month ago I found the floor to be wet again, and called them, apparently these convertible drains are something that need to be cleaned regularly or else there's no where for the water to go but on your floor mats. I don't credit this as being a Volvo flaw, but more a flaw of convertibles in general. I had never owned a convertible before so I didn't know all of this, being a convertible owner means being a patient person who can withstand the threat of water and the annoyance of rattles. Anyway besides those issues, which overall weren't that big of a deal, the car was very reliable. I could always count on it to start right up, no matter how cold it was outside. It was fantastic in the snow, the electronica top always worked great, the seats were comfortable (although the leather cracked rather easily), and the I drove the car across the country and back twice without a single problem. The tires are expensive to replace so I was putting it off and ended up getting in a bad accident on wet roads on the highway last week. I totaled my poor convertible but I didn't have a single scratch. The firemen on the scene said the Volvo saved my life. The car spun and hit the cement barrier on the side of the corner and smashed the front, spun again and smashed the back, and the sides somehow got hit too. I really did a number on this poor car and I opened the door and walked right out. The car was still running after this horrendous crash, the radio was still playing, and all my doors opened and closed. The car was deemed totaled, but it certainly saved my life. If you're looking for an expensive-quality but affordable used convertible this is for you. As long as you don't mind spending some time at the dealership everyonce in awhile. Beautiful styling Powerful turbo engine Great handling Very safe
Weakness:
Akward rear seat entrance Sometimes sunroof rattles at high speeds Some turbo lag from dead stop w/auto trans Beautiful, classy, powerful & unique. I have had my black with creme leather int. Coupe for just a little over a year. It has the high-pressure turbo (236 hp), 17" rims, Nordic package, Dolby stereo, traction control, beautiful wood trim and power sunroof/seats/mirrors. It handles curves like it is on rails and is very powerful in the mountains. With its solid Volvo construction, strong ABS brakes, driver & passenger air bags, side air bags, the car is also very safe. Volvo C70 Coupe
Strength:
Engine - Acceleration Transmission Sound System Leather Seats Driving Demeanor The gorgeous looks matched by performance Fuel economy is amazing I LOVE VOLVOS!
Weakness:
Ford has taken over and will ruin Volvos forever... breaks my heart! Everyone knows that the rear seats are slow, but let's face it... if you want a coupe it should be for two people in the first place, not a family of five. Road noise and slight rattling is a dissappointment but I can get by with that. The ride is bumpy with the nice rims, but that is to be expected as a "Sports Coupe". If you want a smooth and sissy ride, invest in an S-Class or 7-Series. Sports cars are supposed to feel the road. Wish that they would produce a newer version of the C70 Coupe. It is a shame that the new C50 remake will be based on a Ford Focus hatchback chassis. I cry myself to sleep over that! My first car was my mother's 1990 Volvo 740 Turbo Intercooler. When I received the car in 2000, there was 200,000 miles on it and it ran like brand new. It was the best car ever and killed all Fart Can Riceburners. Ever since I have been a supreme Volvo fan. When it was time to buy my first car, I was always in love with the C70 coupe and I pursued it like no other. After successfully finding a beautiful Black High Pressure Turbo Coupe with all Premium Options, creme leather, and in near-perfect condition I had to have it. I got the car for a great price from the dealership owner who loved the car so much that he was driving it himself! I love this car more than anything and it will always be the love of my life. The engine is marvelous, Volvo service is amazing, and the car has anything you would ever need. It is comfortable, dependable, and obviously SEXY! It drives like a family car under normal conditions, but like all other Turbo performance Volvo's, when you ask for it you are going to get it. Tish turns, high speed, great acceleration, and an unparalleled highway drive. Great for long distance drives, especially with the Dolby Surround Sound System. I relax in my cozy leather sport seat, cruise at 90mph with ease, and envelope myself in soothing sounds. This Volvo will rattle and whine at 70mph because it wants more. Comfortable driving speed is achieved at 95 or so and it has no problem achieving that 155mph mark as many have probably read. Truly an impeccable car and would not have chosen otherwise. My best decision yet and a dream come true for me! Similar Products Used: BMW 525 Mercedes C230 Kompressor BMW Z3 Volvo 740 Turbo Intercooler |

Design and style. Quality leather interior/Comfort. Premium Stereo System has no peer - Serious! Punchy mid range acceleration. Good handling up to eight tenths driving. Uniqueness - people often dont know what it is. Refined engine and transmission. Great range of options for the $$$.
Weakness:
Sunroof rattle. Despite quality interior, dash sometimes rattles. On harsh raods, ride is choppy - be carefull if you have the 17 inch rims. Slow access to rear seats (but great when you finally get in there). Wind noise from side mirrors and side glass too much for such a car. Great value vehicle that is unique and generally well built. Does everything well that is asked of it given the outlay. Reliable as a second hand buy and still looks and smells new. Awesome design and style and great quality interior. Good performance from HP Turbo, although lacks punch above 110kmh. Similar Products Used: Volvo 850 T5, Saab Aero |
