Strength:
Exceptional Value. Great wet, great dry Better "ride" than the Pilots. Quieter than the Pilots
Weakness:
A little soft, not quite as quick turn-in as I am accustomed to Researched the net to replace the worn out 245/40 17 Michelin Pilot Sports on my my BMW M3 . There were two obvious choices: Bridgestone''s new Pole Position SP 3, and Michelin''s Pilot Sport, both at about $250 a tire. But I was looking for similar handling wet and dry, slightly longer wear and a much lower price so I tried the Toyo Proxes T1 S at about $150 each. Had the opportunity to drive a technically tough road (Highway 17 to Santa Cruz) after first rain of the season and I can report the Proxes were quite competent in the wet, though they offered slightly slower turn-in than the Pilots would. They have a wonderful feel, a little more "plush" than the Michelins and not quite as harsh. The Proxes handle similarly but a little differently. Seems the Proxes lag just a little in setting the load on the sidewall and then they carve the turn. The Michelins simply are more quick to cut in on the turn. The difference will take a little getting used to, but is minor and I believe it can be accomodated without much/any loss in performance. Tire pressure increase of 2-3 psi may help this effect as well. In all I am happy to report these are a very very good tire, even without considering the price. If you throw the price into the equation these Proxes are a steal. I am going to rate them at 4 mainly because I think they warrant a 4.5 and the previous reviews have then almost at 5. I think there are possibly "better" tires available, but it is certain that you will be paying major dollars for the minor differences. Similar Products Used: Michelin Pilot Sport |

Strength:
Great grip and smooth rolling.
Weakness:
None Just the best tires I have ever used. Great grip in warm or hot weather. You have to warm them up in cool weather for best grip. Smooth rolling on all surfaces. For those people who want something special and don''t mind paying. Similar Products Used: Goodyear Eagle RSA |

Strength:
Soft plasticine tire compound sticks to the road like epoxy, even in wet.
Weakness:
Uses a bit more petrol These tires at first I thought were expensive. However i was amazed at the comfort of the ride and the ability to adhere to the road in avy condition. Controlled braking at any speed became almost a mathematical certainty. The only problem is the size limitation. I ideally wanted 195/50/16 but the smallest size available was 205/50/16. This when placed on my rim caused rubbimg. I was reluctantly forced to change the tyre to the next best: Goodyear Eagle FI. I wept openly as the Toyos were taken off. Grips very well, You can literally feel the tires gripping,
Weakness:
Lasted only 8,000 miles, but that's hard driving, racing, controlled skids, etc looks and feel, you can't beat it, I've gone 158 mph, Toyo tires felt extremely stable, a little harsher ride, but an improvement over the stock Bridgestones. Similar Products Used: Bridgestone RE20, stock Supra TT tires, Bridgestone's had a softer ride, lasted the same as Toyo Proxes T1-S, a bit strange because the Bridgestones were rated at 140 A, and the Toyo's were 280 AA, I thought the Toyo's would last longer!!! |

Size: 245-45ZR16 Awesome grip. These tires stick to the road well. Haven't experienced any wet weather yet to comment on wet surface performance...but stay tuned.
Weakness:
None These tires so far are superior! Everything about them. The rim protector is an outstanding feature...good job TOYO! Outstanding grip to the road. Not noisy in my opinion. Very aggressive looking tire as well. On this size the tires are even side oriented. You get two lefts and two rights as well as directional. Hope they wear well with conservitave driving. Not looking to burn them off at the track. Similar Products Used: Factory BFG Comp T/A HR4 (garbage) |

Acura CL Type S
Strength:
Has incredible stick. Great wet performance. Replaced OEM MXM4 (215/50x17 93V) tires with 235/45x17 97V tires. Only tire that I could find with exact rolling radius and super performance in wet and dry with good wear (280 AA A). Stick better than RE-71s I had on previous car.
Weakness:
A bit noiser that the stock tires that come on every Acura 2001 CL Type S TireRack would not recomment anything but stock tires for the Acura CL Type S. They said the load rating and fit made it impossible to change to a different tire. The Toyos are mounted on the stock 17x7" wheels (17x7.5) is the recommendation. However, the tires fit perfectly, the rolling radius is correct, and will not mess up the Acura's Navigation or VSA (Stability Assist). Similar Products Used: Stick like super-glue compared to the Michelin MXM 4s (A 10 compared to an 8) The stock tires are great on open surface pavement (good on sandpaper like surfaces), but the Toyos are super on everything I've tried. |
