DONT BUY THESE TIRES... I KNOW OF 3 PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD VARIOUS TYPES OF NITTOS BLOW OUT ON THEM. 2 OF THEM WERE LUCKILY NOT HURT BUT THEY BOTH SAID THE TIRE JUST SHREDDED TO PIECES. I HEAR RUMORS THAT NITTOS ARE A RETREADS. JAPAN IMPORTS USED TIRES FROM THE US THEN RETREADS THEM WITH THEIR TREAD PATTERNS. VERY BAD TIRES...

Strength:

Wear...that's it, nothing else. Oh yeah, maybe the wider contact patch.

Weakness:

Where do I start? Traction sucks, they pull apart, they squeal like pigs with even the slightest "spirited driving".

I drive a 1995 Probe GT )(heavily modded to the tune of approx. 225 HP) which cane with Goddyear V-rated gatorbacks. Great tire, long wear, O.K traction. Wore those out and went to the GSC's. About this time I had modded the car, lowered it, prepped for autocross. Granted, it handled A LOT better now, but the tires were a definite ingredient to successful handling. Wore those out (looked like Hoosier slicks!!) and read all the hype about Nitto's. They had a wider contact patch (usually equals more grip), great advertised tread life, great advertised wet/dry traction, and an aggressive tread pattern, so I thought I'd give them a shot. Of all those promises, they only came through on one--tread life. They lasted me about 35,000 miles with insanely aggressive driving. That surprised me since most of the time the car was busy spinning its wheels helplessly, breaking loose around corners, and screaming for mercy under the least cornering load. You'd figure they would wear out quicker like that. Put it this way, these have been the ONLY tires I have managed to 1) get the rear end to step out on me in a sharp turn, under hard acceleration, and 2)got them to chirp in not three, but four gears!!! No lie, these tires are the worst performers by a wide margin. I don't know about the rest of the Nitto lineup, but these 450's have singlehandedly fell short of every expectation you'd have for a "performance" tire.

Had Goodyear GSC's--absolutely no comparison, Nitto can run and hide. Bridzestone Potenza's--wear a lot faster, but grip ten times better.
Dunlop SP 9000--like comparing a Festiva to a Ferrari

Strength:

Dry handling is decent much better than the stock michelins, but what isn't?

Weakness:

Wet handling is fair to poor, I had 205/40-17's even when they were inflated properly, they always lose air. Be careful in hard rain and don't drive them in the snow. White knuckle time.....

After 20K miles of a 40k mi tire, side wall has split on 3 of 4 tires, very unsafe! However tread is fine, sounds like a re-tread to me.

After first rain I knew I was in for it. I dont drive hard nor pop the clutch, but these tires would spin out usually at every stoplight during initial acelerationThese tires are crap, look at anything else but these.

Strength:

good cornering, nice and sticky, good in snow and water. better than my michelin xgt 4s. don't get me wrong the xgts were great tires. they are wider though. i went from 215/55/16 to 225/50/16. the michelins could have been better if there was a 225/50/16 for me. the nittos had them beat by price though. better looking also.

Weakness:

nothing.....nice tires

i recommend the nittos, they are a great tire for the money, good looks, and good performance in rain, snow, and dry pavement.

Strength:

- Price
- Performance

Weakness:

When first purchased, they can be a bit slippery, but after a few miles and a bit of use, this changes and they grip better. When I first got them installed, I drove home in the rain and wasn't too happy. But even after driving around for a few hours, they began to get much better. And on turns where I would usually skid, even in the dry pavement, these held on pretty well in the rain.

I didn't want to go asymetrical, so that eliminated my other top two contenders: the Pirelli P7000s and Yokohama Paradas, and none of my local tire shops had Toyo T1-S's in stock, so I opted for these and I am very satisfied. I am also happy now that I did get V-rated tires rather than Z-rated because of the extended life of the tire.

Strength:

they look really cool. i like the name 'Nitto'. i like the tread pattern. also, they are comforable for being low profile. i got 195/50/15's and they are just as comfortable as my old 185/70/13's i used tohave. ride quality was not sacrificed for low profile tires. the price was excellent. i paid $54 a tire.

Weakness:

the tires are fine for me. i havent noticed any wet weather sliding around...of course, i drive much safer when roads are wet ;) i only lost traction one time and that was a slip in my drive wheel when going around a90 degree curve, punching it from a dead stop.

i recommend them to a first time low profile tire buyer (rhymes!). they are cool and biggest bang for the buck. i may get 'better' tires later when i have a bigger income. but for now, these suit me just fine!

compared to my old regular tires, these are 100% better.

Strength:

Excellent grip on DRY surfaces throughout tread life!

Weakness:

If it rains WALK!!!
At least during the last half of the tread life!
Man, these things become terrible on the wet stuff late in life!

I would recommend this tire because it gives a good bang for the buck overall...

Sporty Looks, Cheap Price, Good Dry Handling.

Weakness:

Save a life, and stay home if it rains. I've got 205/50/15's and can't go any faster than 45Mph when it rains. THese tires hydrofoil all over the place. Scary! Very Loud!

Want some cheep import tires? Go for these. Want a safe, performance, wet/dry tire, get something else. These tires ware very fast, and get VERY loud after about 1/2 thair life. Better get a amp so you can hear your radio over these jokers!

Strength:

I really like my new Nitto S rated tires. They look really cool and make my Acura Integra look even better. Provide great traction and stability as well as ride quality. Last longer than Z-rated.

Weakness:

Price, I paid $430 for all 4. ( includes installation )

Great buy for the smaller size sports car.

Strength:

My first impression of these tires was WHOA! They provided me with so much traction compared to my stock tires. I was amazed by how much power I can feel just because I had more grip to put down the power. These tires also kept me from hydro-planing as much as I use to. I love these tires to death because of their all season capability.

Weakness:

These tires may be all season but are not true performance tires. I still loose grip sometimes and they do not have as much traction as say a dry road tire would.

For the price these are one hell of a good tire but performance wise I could have done better. May have paid more but I could have done better. Also if you are looking for all season then these are great for it. I bought them at $80 a piece and I would recommended to anyone on a tight budget and looking for good but not performance type tires.

Similar Products Used:

I like the Toyo TS-1. They are similar but provide more grip in my opinion. If I was to get these tires again, I wouldn't and instead opt to buy the Toyo TS-1 and stay on the drag strip. I have no need for all season tires so this was my problem to begin with.
