Model Reviewed: 1994 Saturn SC2

Strength:

Excellent dry grip, long and even tread wear, good fuel efficiency, reasonably quiet, price.

Weakness:

Moderate to unsatisfactory grip in snow. Tended to get much noisier when the tread wore thin.

These 195 60 R15 tires came with my Saturn SC2 from the factory. After more than 50,000 miles on them, I recently replace them with a set of BFGoodrich Comp T/A VR4s.

They offered positive grip and cornering in dry conditions to the point where it was really difficult to get the car to loose grip on tight corners no matter how hard I tried. In wet and snow conditions, they were good until their tread wore down to less than 1/4". Then, they continued to offer excellent handling in dry conditions, but started to loose it on wet and snowy conditions. They also became noticeably noisier.

All throughout their life, however, they showed a perfectly even tread wear. I assume that this is partly due to the fact that I religiously rotated my tires, performed wheel alignments every year, and checked and maintained my tire pressure every couple of months.

To top it all off, these tires cost only about sixty some dollars each at most tire retailers, quite reasonable for performance tires.

These are highly recommended for those seeking good performance for a reasonable price.

Strength:

Good grip in the dry. Fairly quiet.

Weakness:

The WORST bad weather tire you will ever find. Rain is bad, snow is horrible. I was spinning the front tires of my SC2 in very little snow, even when the tires still had lots of tread left. Unless you don't drive in any bad weather, stay away from these tires.

Stock tires from factory. Would not recommend these to anyone.

other high performance all season tires. The GTA's are definitely at the bottom of the category.

Strength:

It was really cheap to buy this tire. I got it off a guy who was selling them practically new!! Now i know why he got rid of them...

Weakness:

Looks crappy and the performance from my stock touring Dunlops D60 were better.

I would not recommend these tires.. in the wet they are horrible.
I drive a 240sx with the stock 20560r15 and i quiver whenever it rains.

Buy a real brand and forget these, please.

Goodyear GA.. very smooth and you get what you pay for, peace of mind.
Dunlop D60.. thought they were crap but seeing how the firestones handled i miss them.

Model Reviewed: 2001 Nissan Sentra SE

Strength:

None. Dry grip is marginal at best. Snow/Ice grip is almost non-existant. It's a good thing my car has an LSD!

Weakness:

Everything! Marginal dry grip. Threshold braking is very difficult as the tires will lock up with minimal brake input. Snow traction is horrible. The car is very darty (a byproduct of the tires I believe.)

Honestly, I almost didn't write this review just because I had nothing good to say about these tires. However, I felt that I should add one more bad review to the stack just to reinforce how sub-par these tires really are.

I bought my new Sentra SE about a month ago. Never before have I owned a vehicle where the tires were so noticeably bad. Why Nissan chose these things is beyond me. It is in my opinion that they are almost dangerous! Even dry traction is just "okay." I've experienced real problems with grip on harder stops. These tires do not let you know when they are about to lock up...they just do it. They don't communicate whats going on to the driver at all. I'd hate to have a panic stop situation with these things on the car.

Snow traction could best be described as weak. My car is equipped with a Limited Slip Differential, which helps negate some of the bad tendencies of these tires. In short, they will not grip to much of anything in snow or icy conditions.

In addition, my car has some issues with straight line stability that I believe are present because of the Firestones. Basically, the car seems very darty....it always wants to fall off center. The tires also follow irregularities in the road, forcing a lot of steering input to correct.

So where does this leave me? Well, with 1,400 miles on the odometer, I am ready for NEW TIRES!!! I feel like I should charge Firestone for the replacement set. I plan on upgrading to either a Bridgestone RE 730, or Toyo T1-S. Maybe then I can take full advantage of the great handling of the Sentra Se.

I don't feel the Firestones deserve 1 star. Since that is the lowest value I can choose....that is what they get.

HORRIBLE TIRES!

Strength:

Strenghts, I don't think Firestone ever heard that term when talking about their tires. The tires are crap. They replaced my Eagle GA on a 94 Grand AM and what an idiot I was to buy them. They are horrible on turns, snow, and rain. I ended up selling the car to my girlfriend but to make sure she would be safe in it, I threw that junk away and replaced them with Yokohama 540 Z rated tires. What a difference.

Weakness:

I am laughing....he he he

DON'T, I REPEAT, DON'T BUY THEM. If you got them on your new car from the dealer, anticipate changing them either because they don't or because you get in too many close-to-wreck incidents.

Strength:

Weakness:

I bought my Focus in mid March and the other day I noticed that there was a bluge in my front left tire. I took the car to Ford dealership and they had the car for about 45 minutes and told me to take it to Firestone where they would probably give me a new tire because my tire is defective. So I went to Firestone and they said that the tire damage was my fault because I hit a pothole. I've never hit a pothole that would cause that much damage!!! So I went back to Ford and they told me that whatever Firestone says goes, Ford doesn't warranty the tires, Firestone does. Even though in my warranty book for the Ford, it says the tires are warrantied from manufacturer's defect. So now I don't know

SIDE WALLS DONT STAY ON VERY WELL ( they recalled the nissan and fixed it in those why dont they do it for the rest of us)

After just a week and a half with these tires on my new/used 1999 cougar a bubble in the sidewall appeared, i like an idiot replaced them with the SAME FREAKING THING. now i worry that the new FIRESTONES on my cougar are going to go bad. the dealer said well its a pothole as did the Firestone shop, its my new car i would have remembered a pothole. i have had a set of BFGoodrich tires and ran over a curb with those and it didnt do that.

Please if more of cougar/contour/Focus owners out there have similar problems please go to NHTSA.com and register a complaint about these tires. I have to travel five hours every month or so one way to college and home and often worry about them. so please take the time to fill out the form you may well save my or someone elses life in the process.

Model Reviewed: 2001

Strength:

Cheap - i.e. standard tires on some cars. Not bad in city driving - and since they apparently suck you don't feel bad about pounding on them.

Weakness:

Poor grip for performance driving - cornering, fast acceleration, etc. Possibly dangerous in severe weather conditions. Probably won't last too long either under high-mileage conditions.

This is the first time I have had my own car with a standard transmission, so it is hard to say if these tires are good or bad. From the other reviews, I gather that they really suck relative to performance tires. They are fairly noisy at any time; but I started out driving in the middle of an icy Canadian winter. I'm still alive and no accidents - I can't say for sure whether this is due to careful driving or my anti-lock brakes and traction control. Rain performance seems OK if you drive reasonably.

Nevertheless, do not buy these tires given the previous reviews. For any reason.
