Strength:

Very good (not superlative) grip in wet and dry road conditions, tread pattern very unique, reasonable cost. Safe tires for me and my family to commute everyday. Never stinch on tires, that''ll be the worst or last mistake you''ll ever make.

Weakness:

A tad noisy, when shod on japanese cars like my corolla (bad NHV), stiff sidewalls, steering response not incisive enough,

Very grippy in dry and wet road conditions, especially in tropical Singapore which we get a lot of rain. Initial turn-in a bit vague but more steering input will yield satisfying response from them. Very quiet when new, started getting rythmic ''pipe resonance'' between 40km/h~80km/h from the tires after about 10,000 km.

Model Reviewed: 1998 Audio A4 Quattro

Strength:

Great wet traction as advertised. Doesn't give up anything in the dry grip department compared to the SP8000's originally on my car. These tires together with Quattro produce a glued to the road feel whether it's dry or raining.

Weakness:

A bit noisy at low speed and snow traction that's slightly worse than the SP8000, however, with Quattro you have an equalizer.

After chewing up my Dunlop SP Sport 8000s in about 30 months, it was time for some new tires with better rain grip to keep up with my Audi A4 2.8 Quattro. The SP8000s were down to the hard compound and although the tread depth was bad, the wet grip was gone. I looked around at a variety of tires and flipped a coin between the SP5000 and SP9000. I'm glad I picked the SP9000. The wet grip is fantastic and high speed stability in rain feels like the road is dry. Pairs up well with Audi's Quattro system. I had my car in for service the other day and noticed that A6 2.7T's on the lot were equipped with these tires. I guess Audi agrees with my assessment. The only downside to this tire is their snow grip...or lack thereof. The are no better than the SP8000s and a bit slippery when turning in snow. If you want winter time security, by a snow tire. High performance tires aren't snow tires and don't pretend to be.

4 stars on the value rating because they are expensive, but 5 for the overall rating because they deliver as advertised.

A few words about the Eagle GT+4 on my 1989 Taurus SHO....they never had a chance. Tremendous torque through the front wheels plus good cornering grip made my chew up front tires every 18 months! Yes, I had fun driving my SHO. The GT+4s were a soft compound tire that gripped very well in the dry. All that torque made them prone to spinning when the road was wet and as for snow, the "+4" part was on joke with my SHO. What a motor in that car! Hated to part with it, but the interior did not hold up well to everyday wear and tear + 2 kids!

Strength:

Provide excellent traction and stability when warmed up. Have tons of grip in the rain, especially cornering (again, when warmed up). Very aggressive tread-pattern. High speed hijinks are so much easier with these tires.

Weakness:

Because of aggressive tread-pattern, my car tends to "track cracks" badly (even after alignment check). Usually only happens on roads with un-even wear like where the road is becomming rutted. When tires are cold they can be dangerous in the rain. Snow? forget it. I live in the midwest, during the winter, these babies are shelved and I use Nokian snow tires.

In general, these tires are excellent. I tend to drive a tad too aggressively, and they can usually handle most of the input. But spinning them in a 1-2 upshift doesn't prove to be a problem. I like backroads with lots of curves. The faster I can get through them, the more fun I have. The stiff sidewalls allow almost no body-roll. I can take on and off ramps like a raped ape. These tires are constantly being subjected to speeds in the triple digits, and my confidence in them has never gone down. But again, these tires can be sh*t scary in the snow. Granted they were not designed for winter use. Even a light-dusting causes big problems. Any kind of accumulation, leave it parked. Then again, anything more than 3 inches and my car is a plow. Currently my car only has a K&N drop-in filter with an HKS sport exhaust. Maybe a 5-7hp gain at the wheels. Anything over 1/3 throttle in 1st, and they go up in smoke after the secondary butterflies open up around 4000 and the power really starts to build. And I do have to agree that they do create a bit of excessive road noise, especially on rough concrete. But the solution is simple, get a louder radio. They only other Dunlop tire that has provide me with better traction is a D207 on my motorcycle. 140hp (back wheel), 450lbs dry. You do the power/weight ratio. And they good over 179mph!!!

I got a set of 4 with 80% tread remaining for 50 bucks (friend). Doesn't take a mathemagician, $12.50/pc. Best I've ever spent, with the exception of this one night in Vegas.

Strength:

Traction, plenty of it. With the 1.5" lowered suspension, these 235/40/18's greatly improved the looks and handling of the car. This is my first experience with tires like this, but the ride is MUCH better than I expected after a plus 2 fitment. It's really not too bad unless you get on the real "sharp" stuff like expansion joints, pavement edges, etc. The tires are supposed to last pretty long too.

Weakness:

A bit more noise than I expected from a "better" tire. Granted, they are significantly wider than the OE Eagle RSA's, but when I first put them on with the new 18" wheels, the noise at low speed (<20)was so noticable inside the car I thought something was rubbing/griding (sounded like when your rotors are rusty. Nope, just the tires. Goes away at 30 and highway noise level is very good.

A minor annoyance with a "sticky" tire like this is that you hear all the little pebbles and stuff they pick up bouncing off your fenderwells and rocker panels.

Overall I am very satisfied with the tires and would recommend them. They seem to provide a good balance of performance, comfort, looks and mileage. The Michelin MXX3 would probably have been a quieter, better riding tire, but the treadwear is only half, I think. At $1000 set, I don't want to be replacing tires every 20K.

Strength:

best traction tire I ever have, with my lowering supension and stiff sway bar, it's just the best I have so far...not affecting mileage given its very good grip. Recently I have a long trip from Seattle to IOWA, half way my tire has vibration around 60mph, but I desire to drive on it for 1&1/2 days sometime drove 100 plus on consecute 3 hours...finally I got to Iowa and look what I found? a 8 inches crack on my the inner side of the tire(the location I got nails on it and got it fixed at the local store).
and I drove on that for 1&1/2 day in rain, bad roads, and insane hi speed for 1000 miles.
It's just a master piece.

Weakness:

my car handling a little more understeer after the tires installed. most noiceable at tight cornering.
Note that for maximum performance tire, it still wears a little quicker than the stock touring tire even they have same treadwear rating.

paid? Real good. Check out the Tirerack.
Never buy it from local store, or at least take the price you got from tirerack then go to bargain with your local shop.
ALWAYS REMEMBER, Tire is the only thing you and your car touch the ground.
I do recommend the Sp9000 to anyone, no matter what kind of driver you are.
It just breakthrough that it best of the both world...and I never find anything else like that in the whole industry.

This is a revolutionary tire for me , It does everything well and some things oustandingly. Its the first high performance Tire that rides like a touring tire while it has loads of grip either in dry or wet.

Weakness:

Ive tried, but havent got into a weakness yet!!

A must buy , only if u want to drive in a racetrack, use it as a wet tire, for "dry only" id recommend others like MXX3 from Michelin.

Great tire! Very smooth, and quiet. Plus-sized to 17's. These tires grip so well in corners, I forgot I was driving a four door family car! In the rain, they feel as solid as they do on dry pavement. Best tire if you want performance and almost no noise!
