Strength:

Handling, decent all season traction, far better then stock.

Weakness:

Still find better dry tracking for a sports car. Are a bit noiser than most in its class.

275/40/17 First I want to say the stock tires from Goodyear are crap. Hitting the gas hard would bring you sideways. Although the SP 5000 tires are a nice all around tire, for a car with HP like mine, they still don't have the dry traction I would like. I have had better for a cheaper price, but that just might be sears. (I was very nieve when I took them to sears, they are overpriced and bent my rim while installing and refused to pay for the fix, since they don't even fix bent rims)

great performance, dunlop quality

Weakness:

rough ride

As far as I can tell, these are great tires. I love the way they feel on wet and dry roads alike. I havn't driven in snow with them yet because i just recently bought my car and they came with it. These tires feel great in corners. There is little to no slide to the tires even in fast cornering.

Strength:

Handling

Weakness:

I was turning out of a parking lot (about 10-15 mph) and hit the passenger sidewall (obviously of both tires) on a curb (smooth, not jagged) - both tires on the passenger side blew out! It was probably the angle of the hit - but there was no damage to the car, the rear wheel, or the front and rear wheel alighment, only the front wheel had a small scrape at the rim and the two tires blew out instantly on impact. Had I hit a curb or barrier at 60-70 mph the car probably would have rolled over. Nobody who saw the incident, the curb or the car can understand how both sidewalls blew out, but I had two other high performance Dunlop tires (earlier model) whose sidewalls (the side facing the undercarriage)split after about 40-60,000 miles. I'm not religious about checking tire pressure - low tire pressure may exacerbate the problem.

Handling is excellent with this tire as is traction in rain and snow. Basically I like the tire a lot, except see weaknesses below related to the sidewall. If you have these tires, check tire pressure regularly and check the sidewalls for damage, cuts.

Strength:

Better ride than the D40s

Weakness:

Too soft of a sidewall for a performance car...at least in a 15" wheel.

Very disappointing tire. Got them to replace my Dunlop D40s (which are no longer available). The car's handling is horrible -- I'm pretty sure it's because of the soft sidewall. It's like riding on Jello. You can push the car on the side and watch the sidewalls flex. No customer support from America's Tire Company or Goodyear (which now owns Dunlop). Essentially both told me "tough" even though I am willing to buy larger wheels and a more expensive tire (i.e. Goodyear F1)

Model Reviewed: 1995 IMPALA SS

Strength:

The Best wet weather tire I ever owned. An excellent dry weather tire.

Weakness:

Tread wear for my tire size and application (meaning the rear wheels of the SS have a tendency to spin) has a life of up to 24K miles. Wimpy tread design (works great but I love that big block look.)

I have Dunlop 5000 275/40/17's mounted on my '95 Impala SS, which has 137K miles. I drive VERY aggresively. (I apologize if I 'blew' by you and startled you). The first few tire changes, I put on the oem BFG 255/50/17 (garbage, but I didn't know any better then). I changed tire size to 275/40/17 and first bought Pirelli 7000's, then Yokohama dbs and now the Dunlop 5000's. I will be buying another set of Dunlop 5000's. Why? Because the 5000's are the Best tires I've ever driven in the rain. Because of the low profile and the fact that I keep the tires inflated to their max, I don't have cornering or soft sidewall issues(as some of the other reviewers seem to have). The 5000's also ride great in dry weather and stick to the road. I've had the car on the highway at 130 and never felt any 'slide' on dry ground. I refuse to look at tires that cost over $200 each. I can get the 5000's shipped for about $170 each. No tire on my Impala, which has a 3:73 gear and 320 hp will work well in the snow, even though the 5000 is rated for light snow. At this point, I'd like to stop experimenting with different brands, because I rate the 5000's as a 4.9 out of 5, and the odds are the next brand I might change to, in my price range, won't compare.

Strength:

Great traction in dry or wet conditions whether acceleration or stopping. Great high speed stability Price/Performance

Weakness:

None noticed so far

Well I have only had these tires (P245/45/ZR17) a few days and I have to say they are awesome. I am used to spinning the tires when accelerating from a stop, but these tires "hook up" fast, improving acceleration out of the hole. In the turns they perform great as well and compliment my cars suspension upgrades. I noticed little or no fade and I had great feedback allowing me to throw the car into turns 5-10 MPH faster. At speed (127MPH), I have noticed great stability and ride quality. The noise level of the tires was barely noticable. I briefly saw 100MPH in the rain and felt the tires kept the car tighly to the ground and when I hit puddles the tires were able to channel away the water quickly, allowing little or no hydro-planing.

Strength:

For you basic, non-competitive tire, these are an excellent value. You could easily pay 50% more and get a lesser product.

Weakness:

It is not a high speed tire. Running with some buddies that do not hesitate to hit 130+ mph is something I don''t want to compete with. I restrict myself to no more than 110. But keeping up with my friends in high G-Force slaloms, this tire is just fine.

Tire Size is 235-50/16. I''m using 850i wheels on my 6 series. Running through winding canyon roads is my thing. Tires are everything I have expected -- for the price. Tremendous dry traction, no experience thus far on wet roads (Southern California). Solid handling on curvy mountain roads.

Strength:

Very good wet and dry traction.

Weakness:

Tires do not ride particularly smoothly and are not exceptionally quiet, although I would not say that they are noisy either. This is probably typical for a "Z" rated tire, but I do miss the good ride available with other types of tires.

Overall, a good tire. This is really the first "performance" tire that I have owned. I enjoy the great traction on both dry and wet pavement. These tires do extremely well on wet pavement.

Strength:

Superior handling, lateral grip, respectable wet handling.

Weakness:

They''re bubblegum. They stick so well, they peel right off the rim.

I want you to pay very close attention to what I''m about to tell you. TWENTY THOUSAND MILES. If you''ve got a bankroll to change your tires more often than your wiper blades, go ahead, they''re great tires. While they last.
