From my letter to Fox
I rented a car last Thursday 8/06/09 in Seattle and, along with many others, had a very miserable experience. I arrived at the shuttle pick up site right after the shuttle had pulled away (~11:45 AM). After waiting for 30 minutes, I called the location. There was no answer. I called again about 10 minutes later and, again, got no answer. After waiting for 45 – 50 minutes, the shuttle arrived at SeaTac Island 3. There were about 15 people waiting for the shuttle. The driver (Rosie) told us she only had space for 2 people and that she would be back around again ‘as soon as she could.’ At this point, myself and some others each took a cab to the Fox Rental Car location at a cost of $10 each. When I arrived, there was a line of about 20 people there to pick up a car. After a wait of approximately 70 minutes, I got to the front and got a car. For the first half of this time, there were 3 people at the desk. During the second half, there were 1 or 2 at the desk. The person who appeared to be the manager left while I was waiting.

During this time, Rosie (the driver) was very slowly processing returns (about 1 person every 10 minutes) with customers complaining about missing their plane due to how long it was taking. Thankfully, there were very few returns. She did not leave for the airport until more than 30 minutes after she arrived. Of course, the people waiting the airport would just have been waiting at the site instead.

When I was near the front of the line, a new person came into to line area and proceeded to the people at the back of the line that cars were double booked and they were going to run out. She then took 5 or 6 people to Hertz. However, this still does not explain why it took so long per customer to process and get them a car. If they were going to run out of cars, why ask the last part of the line of 20-25 people.

Taking over 2 hours (approximately 135 minutes) is unacceptable. The staff was very slow, understaffed, poorly handled the impatient crowd (no explanations for how slow everything was going) and some where not very capable. Having significant experience managing retail, the manager should not have left nor let other employees leave during this situation. I believe your company has just lost a number of customers, including myself.

Fox Rental Car in Las Vegas was the worst car rental experience that I have ever had. I have rented vehicles from all the major rental companies since I've been visiting Las Vegas. I searched the net for car rentals in LV and stumbled across Fox as the cheapest for July 2009. Although I had never heard of Fox (live in KY) their prices hooked me in.
After landing in Vegas, I asked the airport security which bus do I take to get to Fox, I was told that any of the car rental buses would take me to Fox. After arriving at the central car rental, we were instructed to catch the Fox shuttle on the corner. The fox shuttled pulled up and our car rental from hell began.
First the shuttle had no ac, it was 109 degrees outside and the driver told my wife and I to sit on the other side because it was cooler. Needless to say we had to ride almost 15 minutes in the an enclosed van without ac, with a driver who wanted to talk above his ghetto music blaring on the radio. After arriving at Fox, I was astounded to see an enclosed gravel/sand yard with a trailer for an office. The lady that checked us in had a very bad attitude and asked me why I was not happy which I replied that the shuttle had no ac and we were not used to 109 w/o ac.
I received a grey Jeep Patriot that had scratches all over, was not clean and later had transmission problems. I had to request a person to look at vehicle and note condition before I left so Fox would not charge me for damages already on vehicle.
Driving from the lot, I noticed the ac was not working very well or maybe I was hot from my shuttle ride. It was the ac, we kept the vehicle one day and tried to call to return and no one would answer phone at LV office. Had to call emergency road repair to get someone at office. By the time we returned Jeep, the ac wasn't working, there was a ratttling at back of truck maybe the muffler and the transmission would not change gears.
The "manager" at Fox told us when we brought the Jeep back, that he did not know why the company insisted on purchasing these types of Jeeps because they were nothing but junk. We were also told that they did not have a comparable vehicle, I suggested that they upgrade to the only Chrysler 300 on lot but they refused. Luckly or unluckly another person returned a Patriot while we were ther and we were told that it would be a few minutes before it was ready. I observed that they sprayed my returned car off and returned it to the lot to lease to another customer.
I received my next Jeep, black: dirty inside and out(they do not wash the cars, they spray them off) scratches and dents all over, with manual windows and door locks. I have never rent a vehicle with manual windows and locks, since there were no other available Jeeps, we endured this inconvience during the remainder of our 5 day trip to LV. DO not rent from Fox, there were no less than 4 customers complaining about something when we returned our Jeep. And they had no maps, not even a map to show where to return Jeep.

Pay the extra money and enjoy your trip!

Model Reviewed: Jeep Commander SUV

Strength:

Exceptional personnel at SNA Airport location, clean SUV, and 1/4 TO 1/5 THE PRICE OF OTHER RENT COMPANIES LOCATED ON AIRPORT.

Weakness:

Bad pickup system---took 45 minutes. Wrong phone number was posted at airport pickup location.

After reading the terrible reviews online about Fox, I made my first Fox reservation expecting the worst. Intead, I was very happily surprised. Avis/Hertz/etc. all wanted $120/day for an SUV at Orange County airport, and Fox was LESS THAN $25/Day.

When I arrived there was no van to pick us up for 45 minutes--and the phone number posted at the airport under FOX/PAYLESS was disconnected.

But, once I got to FOX, the pickup went very smooth, I got an exceptionally clean Black Jeep SUV, and it ran perfectlyu for 4 days.

Drop off 4 days later was exceptional. When I drove up, the FOX person helped me unpack my car, took my luggage directly from the SUV to the van, and helped me disembark. I paid $120 for 4 days including ALL taxes and was never "upsold". I will rent again from FOX, even if they are not 1/4 to 1/5 the price of Avis.

Fox Car rental is an absolute disaster. The Jeep we got had a faulty transmission, but this was the best part of our experience. We could not locate the car return center in Las Vegas, and nearly missed our flight. The company indicated on their website that we could drop the car off at the hotel (NOT). The hotel told us to go to the airport (NOT) and nobody answered any of the phone numbers provided. I had to call emergency services to get a response! The return center was miles away, and their shuttle driver advised us to take a taxi to the airport!!! In the end, they overcharged us 35% on their quote, and I continue to get charges on my Visa months after we left the country! USE FOX AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I received an April Fool joke by renting a car from Fox at Salt Lake City, Utah. The vehicle was o.k. but the customer service was worse than poor.

I have, in the past, enjoyed my relationship with Fox but this time it was horrible.

It is interesting of what one year will due. Last year in Salt Lake they had there Grand Opening in April 2008. Service was great and the experience was at least a B+. I was there 3rd. customer at the Grand Opening.

This year it deplorable. I will find it hard to do business with Fox again.

Strength:

Price. Car had 12,000 miles on it

Weakness:

Drop off location in San Diego was convenient. But the pick up location in Seattle was halfway into Canada.

Customer service was quick, friendly and efficient. Picked up in Seattle, dropped off in San Diego. No problems - great price.

Weakness:

Customer Service. Car Quality

Fox Car rental was by far the worst car rental experience I've ever had!!!! I've rented many cars for business and had never had such HIGH PRESSURE SCARE tactics used upon me or the other customers that were in line along with me. They persisted in bulling me to try to get me to buy unnecessary insurance and wanted me to pay $36.00 for a tank of gas at the end of the use which would have only cost them $25.00. Both the man and the women behind the counter used similar tactics. There also was no one around to talk to about my car which was dirty and had some, what they termed "major” dents in the hood. Had I not made the extra effort to find someone to verify the damage I'm sure I'd be paying for it now. They total ruined my trip because I was sure they would try to find some damage upon my return. However the return was made in the early morning and I had everything documented. They also had no maps or other services normally associated with a normal car rental service. I could go on but I'm not going to waste anymore of my time except to warn off any other potential customers. I now understand why they are not located in the Las Vegas car rental terminal.
Thanks for a poor trip, Tim

Smelly Cars
Rude Service people

It took (3) cars for me to get a safe care. The first one rattled horribly. I returned it the next morning, and the agent never appologized and didn't seem to care. As we drove away with the second car, the airbag warning ligh and alarm kept going off for an hour. I returned THAT car the next afternoon and the male agent was surly and gave me a car that was in HORRIFIC condition, smelled funny, the door was falling apart, but I was so annoyed that I figured that this was as good as it would get. This is a CHEAP service, and I will NOT be renting form FOX again for business trips, the $40 I saved was not worth the extra 3-4 hours of time it took to deal with the anciend and ailning fleet of cars.
