Strength:

They treat you like gold if you're insured with them

Weakness:

You're screwed if you're not insured with them and their insured is at-fault...quick response, my foot...also, they don't want to spend the extra money to get you field training to write estimates...I guess they are content keeping people in the office all day

I am a former USAA claims representative. This company has gone on a severe decline. They dropped my insurance when I switched over to a competing insurance company. Looking back at the little amount that USAA did for people not insured with them and how my current employer treats other insureds, it is a wonder that word of mouth could ever help promote USAA to have people want to get insurance through them. My new company goes above and beyond and I continuously get feedback from customers telling me that they plan to drop USAA for my insurance company because of the outstanding service that my new insurance company provides. USAA's concept is to try to wipe their hands clean of all problems and shove them to another department. Not a good selling tactic. Gee, I wonder why the northern Virginia claims branch is shutting down. Good riddance, USAA!

Strength:

Used to be their service and knowledgeable employees--not any more.

Weakness:

Service is on the decline.

USAA has been in decline for at least the last five years. It started trying to have every customer service employee do everything--answer questions, write policies, handle claims, and probably clean the toilets. Seems no one knows the answers. Claims are paid or denied on a whim.

Things won't be getting better anytime soon. They are now in the process of laying off employees.

If you have USAA insurance, plan to wait a long time to get an incorrect answer from an unhappy and untrained employee.

Strength:

Well, if you're insured by them, the people that you hit are going to be miserable trying to deal with them.

Weakness:

Horrible customer service. The people that handle claims must be demon spawn. I've never had such a terrible experience trying to get repair work done.

An absolutely horrible company to deal with if one of their insured motorists hits you. What should have been an hour worth of work on my brand new car turned into three days of them trying to get me to admit fault, pay for the work before they had agreed to pay for it, and an immense struggle to get my rental car paid for. Had to suffer through the "all managers are in a meeting" ploy when I demanded to speak to a manager.

God help you if you ever get hit by one of their people. And just because their insured driver admits fault doesn't mean that they aren't going to try to convince you that you were at fault.

Anyone else has to be better. Personally, the easiest company to deal with for me has been State Farm.

We'fe had excellent service with USAA auto insurance.
We've filed one claim with homeowners insurance and they would not pay. I strongly disagree with their decision. Others have told me that they've had poor service with homeowners insurance claims.

Strength:

Customer service. financial strength. Integrity.

Weakness:

no local branches, most communication by phone or mail.

My husband and I both work in policy service for USAA. Not only is it an excellent place to work, it's also our insurer for home and auto. I can tell you that as an member and employee we do not sit around trying to find a way to avoid paying claims and raise rates! Since USAA is a member owned company each account must be balanced between the better good for the member or the membership. One cannot be traded for the other. It makes me sad that some people feel that USAA does not care about it's members. That could not be further from the truth! And untrained!!?? Each employee goes through 5 months of intense training for 40 hrs a week before they even take the first phone call. I have found better rates nowhere. I have never seen a company so devoted to it's members and employees. I love that I am encouraged to spend all the time I need with each member to make sure they get the service they expect and deserve. I think that the complaints you see here are by far in the minority. USAA has been doing something right if we've been growing stronger since 1922!

Strength:

customer service, easy to deal with

Weakness:

Not the cheapest....

I've never had a problem with USAA. They've always been up-front and to the point and have never been deceptive in any way. In addition, they've been really easy to deal with (should the occasion arise that I need to). Are their rates competitive? I think everything taken into account, absolutely! I think saving a few bucks is not worth the #$%&*(& headache sometimes. Like I've stated, good customer service, easy to deal with, and competivive costs.
