very poor service..

Worse experience ever with state farm insurance company. I was backing up my car at a restaurant parking lot. All of a sudden I see this old lady backing up even without seeing me backing up. I quickly tried pull forward to avoid being hit. But still she hit the rear bumper , scratching as she moved. I called the cops and cops don't turn up. I got her insurance information and she also happened to have state farm. I called my insurance company and reported the accident. They took two weeks to respond and then sent a guy to take pictures of my car. Finally they declared that it was my fault, saying her car was already in the isle. They made all this decision just by looking at those three pictures. The lady whom I talked to at the claims department was rude and didn't care to listen. I had to ask them to take look again. The lady agreed to take second look and said. even if it turned out to be that lady's fault they will not pay any money to either of us. I then realized these people had already made their decision. Today she calls me and says they have decided its my fault. I am very very unhappy with their decision. How can they just decide my looking at the picture. My brand new car is damaged and they refuse to pay. I am tired of talking to these people. I have to look for my business else where.

Strength:

THEY ARE GO0D AT TAKING YOUR PREMIUMS AND MAY HANDLE VERY SMALL CLAIMS ON OCCASSION OK BUT MY CAR WAS TOTALLED AND THEY OFFERED ME 1/3 OF WHAT IS WOULD COST TO REPLACE IT. EVERY TIME Y0U CALL IT'S A NEW PERSON, OTHER PERSON IS OUT OF TOWN.........AND THEN YOU GET LETTERS SAYING THEY ARE TRYING TO REACH YOU YET THEY WON'T RETURN YOUR PHONE CALLS. WHEN YOU REALLY NEED THEM THEY WILL NOT BE THERE. THEY ARE NO 4 OF ABOUT 4,000 INSURERS STUDIED. MEANING THEY ARE RATED THE 4TH WORST INSURER IN THE COUNTRY. STAY CLEAR OF THE TOP TEN STARTING WITH ALLSTATE, AIG, AND OF COU8RSE NUMBER 4 STATE FARM

Weakness:

THEY DON'T HAVE ANY.......UNLESS YOU CONSIDER THEM FRIENDLY WHEN YOU PAY THEM AND HAVE NO CLAIMS

STATE FARM WILL SCREW YOU WHEN YOU HAVE AQ CLAIM OF ANY SIZE. DON'T BE F00LED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 25 YRS THEY HAVE DONE THIS TO ME. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO WORK FOR SEVERAL YEARS, NEED PHYSICAL THERAPY, PHSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE, A NEOROLOGIST, AND FURTHER MEDICAL CARE AS A RESULT OF A HEAD 0N CAR CRASH IN WHICH I WAS THE VICTIM....SITTING IN A LEFT HAND TURN LANE WHEN HIT. THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR MY MEDICAL NEEDS, REIMBURSE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF PRESCRIPTION BILLS, REIMBURSE ME FOR HOSPITAL CARE NEEDED LAST YEAR, OR REIMBURSE ME FOR A CAT SCAN )WHICH REVEALED A POTENTIAL PROBLEM NOT NOTICED BEFORE WHICH COULD EXPLAIN MY CONSTANT NECK/SHOULDER AND BACK PAIN, THEY ALSO WILL NOT PAY FOR AN MRI THAT IS NECESSARY TO SEE IF SPINAL CORD INJURIES EXIST. THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN 2005. IN SPITE OF TRYING TO G0 BACK TO W0RK MANY TIMES, I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO WORK SINCE JULY 2006. I AM BEDRIDDEN AND NOW BR0KE AND HEAVILY IN CREDIT CARD DEBT. IN THE NEXT WEEK, I WILL BE HOMELESS. THEY BLEED YOU DRY AND DENY, IGNORE, DENY, DENY, TELL YOU YOU CASE IS WEAK. USE LAWYERS TO INTIMIDATE. I HAVE BEEN WITH STATE FARM FOR OVER 20 YEARS. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A GOOD NEIGHBOR.

Strength:

Customer service.

Weakness:

Some of their agents.

I have had insurance with State Farm for the past 40 years. Starting out with one car and gradually increasing the number of policies to include coverage of a second car, home, boat and a blanket liability policy. For a long time I have been under the impression that I could probably get cheaper insurance elsewhere but have not done so because I have always been satisfied with the service I received. To satisfy my curiosity I recently filled out a questionnaire for insurance quotes to see just what the difference might be. I received a quote for car insurance that was a lot cheaper than what I am paying. So, checked the reviews for that company and found almost every one of them to be horrible. Consequently this led me to wonder how State Farm fared in reviews. Although it does much better than the aforementioned company I was surprised with the number of negative reviews. I suspect that it is the unsatisfied that want to vent and the satisfied are generally passive so I am relating my experiences.

I can only recall filing claims in four instances and these were all automotive claims. Two of those were for windshields and one for hail damage and each time I was pleased with the service. For the windshield replacements they sent the installers to my home. The other claim was what really left me feeling indebted to State Farm. My teenage son kind of played spin the bottle with a highway divider, damaging three corners of the car. I took the car to a local small-unaffiliated shop as they could get to it in short order. When the car was repaired it was apparent that the workmanship was shoddy. However the worst of it was that the trunk leaked. I ended up taking the car back 4-5 times and each time the trunk still leaked. I thought as I had chosen that body shop that I was stuck. However, I went back to State Farm anyway with no thought that they would assume any responsibility for fixing the car but to see if I could get the shop blackballed. They sent me to another shop that re-did the shoddy workmanship and fixed the leaky trunk. They then apparently sent the bill to the shoddy shop and he was forced to pay under the threat of being blackballed by State Farm.

Strength:

It's all about finding the right agent and how well they run their office. They are the ones who set if your rates go up and down.

Weakness:

None so far

Wow, lots of negative reviews. Insurance is always based on how well your agent can get tasks completed. Like many people I got State Farm because my parents had it. Our agent has been critical in all my insurance needs. She has been an awesome customer service rep for us. I have been in several vehicle accidents, one was my fault. The claim was a breeze along with all paperwork. I got a loan from them when no bank would give me one in these economic times. When my agent can't be reached one of her staffers will help me and usually no later than a day my agent will call back to make sure everything was done. She even came to my office when I had paperwork to sign. I have nothing but good things to say about her and her office even when I had to make several claims. (I have a loan, renters insurance, full auto and life through her office)

I was just in an accident with my only car, rendering it "undriveable". I called State Farm to see if I could get someone to the garage that day and was told there was no claim made by my local office. I called my local office and they gave me the CLAIM NUMBER that the international office gave them, and I called back. They told me that the person that would handle my claim was on vacation until Monday (it was Wednesday)! They then told me they would send someone that day, and didn't. They then told me that they never told me that. They switched which office I had to call 3 times. I finally tracked them don today (2 weeks later) and asked when they were going to send out the claim check (seeing as how I've already been charged for repairs). They told me they couldn't send it to me because they wanted to make sure I made the repairs! After telling them for 20 minutes that I HAD made the repairs AND paid for them myself; they finally agreed to send me the check (only after calling the repair shop to make sure). My parents have been customers there for 20+ years and pay $1000 a month, I pay $80 a month and they treat us like this!

Strength:

None. They are good at taking payments, but when you really need their personal service, they give you the shaft.

Weakness:

Customer service

I have been a State Farm customer for almost 10 years. Recently while trying to inquire about my policy, I was treated like a total idiot. I feel that the way a company treats its customers when they truly need help is a reflection of the value of that company. A good neighbor is someone who comes through when you need them to, not just when it is convenient. Based on my poor treatment, and I'm a long time loyal customer, I would recommend that those seeking insurance find another company. State Farm is a terrible neighbor that I want to move away from and forget.

Strength:

The ability to sell the ideal of insurance without actually providing the coverage when needed.

Weakness:

State Farm does not provide adequate insurance coverage to those homeowners with basements.

Sump pump, septic drains and/or any plumbing attached to these are NOT covered unless you have specifically requested that type of insurance. Don't expect your agent to ask you if you need sump pump/drain insurance. You have to ask for it.

Then, only major appliances are covered, NO other content (i.e. tv, furniture, toys, videos, games, books, decorations, scrapbooking supplies, luggage, etc.). There is also no coverage for these available to purchase from State Farm according to my agent.

After 17 years and 2 homes with the same agent, our basement flooded w/7" of water due to a crack in the coupling. Because we didn't have the sump/drain coverage the came was denied.

After finding out that State Farm would not have covered any of our basement content either way, I know why the agent never brought our attention to this major hole in our policy. They don't provide addequate insurance to begin with.

If you have a finished basement or it contains anything other than major appliances (i.e. washer, dryer, freezer, furnace, water heater) do NOT use this company. You will not be able to recover any of your losses due to sump pump failer or drain backups.

Strength:

Affordable Rates, Good Discounts (good student, multiple policies), Easy claims

Weakness:

Local agent availability, hounding people with multiple phone calls.

I have had auto insurance with State Farm for seven years, since I was 16. I went with State Farm then because my parents both used it.

I've only had one claim with State Farm, in 2005 after a woman sideswiped me on a 60mph highway in the city. She fled the scene and, as we later found out, was DUI. I was left with $2000 damage to my car. State Farm was wonderful.

They paid the body shop directly, minus my $500 deductible. They covered my week and a half rental car to the tune of 80%, just as specified in my policy. They actually paid the rental company directly too... I didn't have to pay up front and be reimbursed. Also, my rate didn't go up at all.

My only gripe about state farm is the customer service. It's nearly impossible to actually talk to my agent... instead the secretary handles my questions and payments. She even filled out and approved my renters ins app two years ago. I haven't actually ever talked to the agent who took over the office 2 1/2 years ago.

When that same secretary found out I had a roommate, she demanded his drivers license and proof of insurance and said I had to list him as a driver on my policy. Even though he never drives my car. She called repeatedly, multiple times a week, trying to get this information.

Since paying off my vehicle earlier this year, I've been needing to cancel comprehensive on my policy... but I honestly can't stomach the idea of dealing with that woman. It has me searching for a new company.

So, personally, State Farm has been great overall. I'm simply unhappy with my agent's office.
