Strength:

Very quick customer service. Very polite. I was very happy.

Weakness:

None!

I had a accident in the snow last year, very scary. Allstate was there to tow my car and it was fixed in about one week . It had been damaged on both sides. They were great and quick. I never had to do anything!! I just picked up my car and it was fixed.......looked better than when it was new!! I also had a partial fire in my home and Allstate was there and everything was cleaned and property replaced, no hassles. This is a GREAT Insurance Company!! I have auto and home with them for many years ! A few claims that they took care of with no problems, actually they were very helpful and great to deal with.

I was with allstate for half a year before switching to a different ins. I always made my payments on time, and had no claims. After I switched to a different ins, they sent me a letter saying I owe them a little over $80 when I cancelled before my payment was due. I called them a few times, faxed them all my paper/bills as proof I don't owe anything, and they promised someone whould call back within a few hours and resolve this. I never got that call! A month later, I received a phone call from collection agency saying allstate has put me on collection!!!!! VERY TERRIBLE INSURANCE!!!

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Weakness:

Unbelievable customer service.

I'm guessing I was calling HAITI??? They said something like 'we're going to run a crdit check on you' I REFUSED as I think that effects your credit score. So I asked him to verify what exactly he was checking on my credit...he didn't know...his co-workers didn't know and his supervisor wasn't around at 2:30pm in the afternoon on a Monday...hmmmm, he didn't even know the town I lived which was just west of Montreal...so I'm sure he lied about the location I was calling.

Never going with ALLSTATE. EVER.

I switched to Allstate after being with Amica for 3 years because someone hit my car, did minor damage, and Amica was very slow at getting it taken care of. So I switched to Allstate. It was over $300 more a year for the same amount of insurance, and I just chopped it up to better insurance costs more.
First there was a problem with the automatic payment I set up. Apparnelty my understanding of "Everything is all set and you have nothing else to do" really means you have to do about five more things before everything will be in place. So a payment was missed and I received a letter of cancellation through the RMV of Mass. I called Allstate, and although they sympathized with my plight and understand what went wrong, I still needed to pay 3 months worth of insurance to get it back into good standing.
I am a college student, so I worked extra hours to get the money and paid it. So everything should have been all set for the next 3 months. But I was wrong.
This morning, I was pulled over originally for a brake light being out (no big deal, easy fix). However, the cop said he had to tow my car because I have no car insurance and my registration had been revoked. I told him that was impossible because I had just paid x amount of dollars the week before for car insurance and that he must be looking at just Amica and not Allstate, my new policy. Turns out Allstate never sent my proof of insurance to the RMV. I get on the phone with Allstate with the cop right there, and they fax my proof of insurance over to the Massachusetts RMV right away. So I ask the cop if we can just hold on a few minutes until everything gets sorted out. And he kindly reminds me that its Sunday, and the RMV is not open.
So yes, I am irate, and I call Allstate. I have car rental policy under my plan, so I asked where I should go to get a car rental through them, and they tell me that I have to wait until corporate gets back to me in about 48 hours about this. So I said, how am I supposed to get to school and work over the next two days? I pay for car insurance so my car does not get towed, you take my money, and I have no car because I technically have car insurance. She says let me transfer you to someone else who can assist you with this. I am put on hold for 45 minutes and then mysteriously "hung up" on. Needless to say, I am pretty sure I need to hire a lawyer. They need to reimburse me for towing, impounding, re-registering, other fees, and for the lawyer that I need to hire to clear my driving record (I have never had a ticket or accident that was my fault since I got my driver's liscence in 2000). I find it ridiculus that they treat their customers - the ones who pay and don't get into accidnets - like this. My father likes to think that when something bad happens to me there is always something could do to prevent it, and even HE says that Allstate messed up.
I should also sue them for the cost of needing therapy, because after this I might lose my mind.

Strength:

Trying to fill their pocket too fast.

Weakness:

Making its customers feel like they are there for them.

I had insurance with all-state since 2002, never missed a payment and never any claims. I moved out to california and changed my address, for some reason they did not put the address exactly like I told them too. Well, I knew the renewal was comming up, so I called to see were my bill was and how much the renewal was going to be. They informed me that the policy I had carried 8 years was terminated because of the lack of 53.77 being paid as the last payment (which I never got the bill or even a phone call). I suddenly was surprised, so I went ahead and paid the 53.77 to reinstate my poilicy right there on the phone. And, said they would have to send in for approval to reinstate the policy and would contact me in 2days. 3 days later still no call, So I contacted them and once againg they sent a letter to corporate supposidly. 3 more days passed and I had to call again and the sales lady said that I should have been able to reinstate my policy since I was just on day 27 of termination but corporate said NO. All-State informed me that I could not have that policy back, but they would be happy to write me a new policy(by doing this I would loose the 8 years of renewal credits and all of my discounts,) I will admit that I received a speeding ticket for the first time in 4 years and even took the school for it, but for some reason it has shown up on my driving record so I am in the process of trying to have it removed. But, allstate said that my new policy would cost 350.00 to start and 1100.00 and some change every 6 months. But, if they had not terminated my old policy I would not have to pay the 350.00 and my premiums would not be 1100.00 every 6 months. Needless to say they got greedy and lost a good customer. If AllState had looked at how loyal I had been to them for all those years, they would have reconised that they would have made thousands of dollars off of me, but their greed got too large for their brains. Some bean counter there thought it would be more profitable to try and squeeze a few more extra dollars our me me now instead of take alittle over time. I am sure AllState thought I would sign the new policy and come running right back to them, but after the unsatifactory service they showed to me being a long time customer.... well needless to say, I now have a new insurance company that gave me the same coverage and added more options to my policy than I had at All-State and they actually saved me around 970.00 every six months, and all of this is supported with recorded phone calls and actual people listening in on my conversations with All-State. All-State needs an overhaul and fire that guy on their commercial because it must be very expensive to have, whoever he is, represent them.

I'm 25 years old and have had Allstate for nearly 2 years. I've been paying $98 a month. I have had a clean driving record and my premiums have been reduced $20-$50 a month at each renewal period.

So far I have had two claims. The first one was for a huge dent on my passenger side from getting "doored" in my parking lot. Their adjuster said the repairs would cost $537. Which is $37 more than my deductible. I never had the dent fixed. It seems kind of shady how the adjuster works for their preferred shop.

Anyhow, I had a collision a few weeks ago. I hit a car and then a car hit me. I was originally terrified of the claims process not being fair.

Suprisingly, it was pretty decent. My claims agent was a little crabby from time to time. It was difficult to explain the collison to her when she is in another state with a different climate.

My car was adjusted the following business day. I left my car with the adjuster since it was deemed unsafe to drive. 10 days and $4200 later my car was brand new. I did see a tiny bubble in my top coat but they played it off like it was previous damage.

I have three months left on my policy. Until then, I'm fretting over how hard I'm going to get screwed for my collision claim.

Strength:

None whatsoever.

Weakness:

Due to a billing error on the part of Allstate, my policy was erroneously canceled. I went for a month until I received notification that my policy was terminated. Without knowing it, I had been driving around uninsured because Allstate made a mistake and did not give timely notification that my policy was terminated. After battling with Allstate, they reinstated my policy. I argued over the phone for a month, eventually being directed to a corporate office, where they finally agreed to reflect no lapse in coverage. In addition, the rates were significantly more expensive than other competitive insurance companies. The first chance I got, I switched to State Farm.

Recently, my boyfriend, an OIF/OEF veteran, was rear-ended by a woman insured by Allstate. The woman was texting when she hit him. Allstate gave him the run around and a month later, the issue is still unresolved. They offered him about $1,500 less than the value of the car and were unwilling to negotiate. He was originally told that he could have a rental car until there was a settlement. Without notice, the rental car company called and told us Allstate canceled the rental car FIVE DAYS AGO. There still has been no settlement. It disgusts me that an insurance company could screw over someone so badly, much less a veteran who spent three years of his life in Iraq serving our country.

-Expensive rates
-Billing errors
-Inadequate communication
-Rude customer service representatives and adjusters
-Poor customer service after an accident

Strength:

Has none as far as I know.

Weakness:

Has one of the highest insurance rates during my searches. Allstate was charging me over $240.00 a month for insurance. At the time I first started using Allstate I was serving in the U.S. Army. I had just bought my first car and the dealership recommended Allstate. Three years later my car was damaged by a hit and run driver. Without any warning my rates jumped up more than $50.00 dollars. I didn't notice until months later because I have auto bill pay. I was shocked to find my rates had jumped to over 280.00 per month! I quickly got on the phone with my local Allstate agent and he gave me the run around. I then decided to drop Allstate after talking to State Farm and Nationwide. Both State Farm and Nationwide offered rates 240 dollars less per month than Allstate! I could not believe Allstate had been ripping me off for so long. And after being a victim of a hit and run driver they only charged me more. It turned that I chose Nationwide over State farm because they were a little cheaper per month. When I finally received my monthly rate from Nationwide, I could not believe how much I was saving by dropping Allstate. My insurance went from over $280.00 dollars a moth to $55.00 by switching to Nationwide. I'm not advertising for Nationwide. In fact I would say State farm had pretty good rates too. Here is my weaknesses list for Allstate.

Extremely high rates
Terrible service after an accident
Not there when you need them the most.
Poor communication.

Allstate is a terrible rip off insurance company.I hope they have a special circle in hell for everyone who has profited from this Allstate. I would really like to see Allstate fall like Enron and Circut City. And has anyone noticed Allstate is always on tv with back to back commercials. Using hard sell advertising. Its because Allstate needs customers! I hardly ever see State Farm or Nationwide commercials. Do yourself a favor and dump Allstate. You will save yourself hundreds of dollars. And every penny counts in this recession.

Strength:

I have had Allstate for 20 years. I've a few small claims. Good service. I've never had a major incident so I don't know what the service would be like if it happened.

Weakness:

I just priced Geico and Progressive and they were both $600 a year cheaper than Allstate for the same coverage. Geico and Progressive both included roadside asst. and car rental.

I don't know what either of the cheaper ones are like when it comes to claims, but I was rear-ended by a guy in St. Augustine last year and he had Progressive. They treated me royally. No problems. Gave me a rental car while my car was being repaired. I paid nothing.
