Strength:

good rates (especially for home/auto joint accounts), good service, seem to really care about their customers

Weakness:

nothing

best deal around for the price, have the auto/home on the shared plan and get a 20% discount. Highly recommended

Similar Products Used:

State Farm - their service sucks in California and the rates were 3x my Allstate rates with same comps.

Strength:

Customer Service, Quick Claims Processing, Peace of Mind knowing that Allstate will "take care of it" if we ever have a problem.

Weakness:

Allstate is a little more costly than some of these cheaper, lesser known companies.

We have had auto insurance with Allstate Insurance Company for over 10 years. We really like the level of customer service we have received. We have been fortunate to only have had 2 accidents on our policy during this time. Both claims went smoothly and were very fair. I do feel like we are in good hands with Allstate.

Strength:

Personalized service. I have known my agents and their offices have been on the way to work. I am in good hands.

Weakness:

For the type of driver I am I wish it was cheeper. No tickets no accidents. 39 yrs old and two vehicles on the policy.

Highly recommended. For both vehicles I pay about $600 every 6 months. After I put the 4X4 on the policy the premimum went up about 3 dollars.

none. I've been looking at Geico. They quoted me about $450 for 6 mos.

Will drop you in a heartbeat

I had been an Allstate Client for 5 years for my automotive insurance. During my first 4 1/2 years I had a perfect driving history, no tickets or accidents.

Then my string of luck ran out. First, I was visitng family in Maryland when an elderly gentleman ran a stoplight and hit my truck causing quite a bit of damage. Since the vehicle was not driveable, repairs had to be done in that area. It took a bit of convincing to get Allstate to cover the repair costs out of state.

A few months later my year old Mustang was stolen out of a shopping mall (yes, I did have an alarm and "The Club") in Staten Island, NY. After spending days/hours on the phone with Allstate, they finially agreed to pay the value of the car.

Three weeks after I received my check, I received a nice letter from Allstate saying they regrettably had to "DROP ME" as a customer.

Currently, I use State Farm Insurance and have nothing but a great experience. The rates are lower than Allstate, and I also receive a reimbursement check back yearly (because of the lowering amount of claims submitted by policy holders).

Recently, I recieved a letter from Allstate allowing me to come back as a policy holder. With this, I laughed as I "DROPPED" it into the garbage.

Strength:

Responsive, Pleasant to deal with, Average rates

I've had a fair share of experiences with my Allstate agent and claims adjusters. They have been pleasant and responsive every time. They are also very easy to deal with. I've always felt that they are looking out for my best interests and working hard to get me the most $$ for
my claims.

Strength:

Protecting stock holders.
Trickery in the avoidence of paying claims.
Coaching negligent little old lady drivers into forgetfullness, in court.

Weakness:

Ethics & morality of any kind.
Will go to extrodanary efforts to avoid paying claims for soft tissue injuries. Damage appraisers ability to notice even semi-hidden damage.

1. I was an Allstate client rear ended by another Allstate client. Allstate took extraordinary measures to avoid liability including falsifying data used to construct a crash force injury analyses and secretly re-photographed my vehicle after re-installation of collaped bumper. This in order to assert, in court, that no damage or collaps had occurred in the first place. Such facts are verifiable through both professional and personal witnesses. I also retain all documentation in this matter, including Allstate's court brief.

2. The particular Allstate appraisal facility is located in Cupertino California. This is the very district where California insurance commissioner Quackenbush, currently under investigation, made his political debut as a counsil member.

3. I was led by the Quackenbush team (California Insurance commissioners office) into delaying my complaint. When they were the final recourse they asserted that I was too late. Even though there was provable wrong doing in the way Allstate handled my claim, the office of the california insurance commissioner couldn't be bothered. A San Jose Mercury news editorial (April 11 2000) states, "Allstate donated $50,000 to Quackenbush's campaign fund." Of course this is but a drop in the bucket as you may be aware. More reports of bribery in an ABC news speacial.

Since state mandated auto insurance amounts to state sponcered extortion, it pays to find a company that doesn't go to extrodanary leingths to avoid paying reasonable legitiment claims, at any cost, because they can, especialy when an injured party in vunerable and trusting of thier insurer.

If you are looking for auto insurance, I would advise you to AVOID ALLSTATE at all cost. If you have ALLSTATE then DROP IT before you get into an accident. If you ever file a claim go to an independent appraiser. If you go to thier appraiser and find additional hidden damage in the course of repairs and are asked to bring your car in for a second appraisal, be sure to have a friend hiding with a video camra to catch them takeing a new set of photos, while they delay you inside.

Amica is a great company from what I can tell. Better coverage including 5k in med pay for less then my former AllState policy. Check the FBIC web site (Fight Bad Faith Insurance Companies) before you buy auto insurance. They rate companies by number of complaints for "bad Faith" (see Insurance Company halls of Shame and Fame) ALLSTATE is listed in the top 3 worst companies along with State Farm and Farmers. Amica is listed in the top 3 best companies with few to no complaints of bad faith. Considering this and the better coverage I got for around $100 less per year, I couldn't pass up Amica.
