Rockford Fosgate Punch XLC 12"
Strength:
Very awesome sub! Man I really loved how tight it sounded I bought it very cheap for 15 bucks and I put it in a .85 cf sealed box with a Rockford Fosgate Punch 55.2 and wow this bad boy amazed me!! I recommend this subwoofer for reals man. This time I'm doing a setup with three of these on a Punch 225.2 amp. (I'm living the late 90s life) it'll sound louder for a fact!
Weakness:
Foam suround rips off kind of easy & that's about it. I highly recommend these subs they are nice and loud and sound clean and tight. I recommend the Punch amps for this era (I.e Punch 250a2, etc) to go with these subs. All I got these subs through a repo hoping to make a little money. Being Rockford I figured hundred bucks or so but these subs suck, I'll be lucky to get fifty bucks or so. My sonys walk all over these rockfords. |

punch xlc
Strength:
The xlc comes with a large voice coil for low end bass. It also can handle 400 watts max. It wont put a hole in your pocket.
Weakness:
The paper has a shorter life expectancy. They look isnt top line in its class. Put to the side due to its new bigger bother, the hx2. subs will only sound as well as you let them. If you put two 12 inch punch xlc's in a sealed box with the right amp pushing them, you will get a good response. for example the xlc's give off a great low end response. My other punch's on the other hand can't really keep up. things you want to look for in a sub is: a good size voice coil. This will determine how far the sub can vibrate, which can produce low end bass. look at your spl's. this is for you loudness. Also you want to consider the size of your magnet. This determines how many watts the sub should be able to handle. My punch cans with theys features. The only down side would be the paper cone. they have a shorter life span. Similar Products Used: They have many other products that are very much alike, you as a consumer just have to do your research. thats very important. |

Strength:
good considering the price
Weakness:
considering the price range, not many Fosgates may not be the best sub around, but for what they cost they aren't bad. Everyone is comparing them to Shockers and Audiobahns, of course they aren't going to out-hit high-dollar speakers. You can't expect to get much out of something that you don't pay much for. Your quality is directly proportional to how much money you spend on something. Rockford Fosgate makes very good top of the line subs but everyone buys the low line series and consequently stereotype the brand. Don't knock the brand until you actually invest some money into it. |

the cardboard box is farely strong
Weakness:
damn, only 1200 characters available. They suck so bad, there still in the cardboard box it came in, sitting in the garage for four years now, and for the guy from Howell, MI. of course it's the loudest in town, probably only fifty people in the town, try competing down here, I'm hitting 154 in a regular cab ranger, with two 12s' Similar Products Used: I've got 6 1/2's that hit harder |

they are cheap.. you can get them everywhere you have to be kidding me? rockford sure as hell doesnt hold the worlds SPL record.. and rockford DOES sucks.. i have used their stuff, have you used other decent subs? adire audio shiva? image dynamics? focal? JL? theres many.. just because some subs arent mainstream and arent sold at your local kmart/bestbuy/circuit city/wally world, and are out of your realm of car audio, doesnt mean there arent subs out there that cost less and would DESTROY your rockford... they may be the best at best buy(if that), but thats all... id be willing to bet the adire audio shiva has more xmax then rockfords top of the line 12" sub.. adire audio holds the record for world spl records in MECA AND SLAP.. Strength:
Rockford makes solid, quality subs that aren't as overpriced as some of their competitors (JL, anyone?). And as far as reliabiltity goes, I have heard of FAR more people that have blown their JLs than Rockfords.
Weakness:
People like brand-bashing way too much. I used to have some cheap MMATS subs. Just because I blew one of them, I'm not going to go around telling people not to buy their other products. I agree completely with the guy below. These idiots are judging an entire manufacturer based on their worst product. Read the review by Brian from Oct. 2002 below. He goes out and buys the cheapest sub he could find, gives it double it's rated power handling, and then when it blows, he goes around telling everyone how much Rockford sucks. Or another recent review, where the guy says that only HE2s and Power HX2s are good, the rest are crap. What about Punch HX2s? Those are some hardcore subs. And I used to own HEs, so I know they don't suck. They sounded awesome and played loud na dlow with only moderate power. Similar Products Used: MMATS, Planet Audio, MTX |

1998 / 2 12" RF Punch DVC's
I'm tired of hearing everyone whine about Fosgate. If you would have went ahead and spent another $100 a sub instead of opting for the cheap low end RF none of you would be complaining. Subwoofers are like cars....the more money you spend, the faster you go. With RF subwoofers, the more money you spend, the harder you hit. I've had two DVC 12" RF's and had them wired to a 500m in custom VT boxes and hit a 142db.....yes, I spent more money than you did, but you get what you pay for. Rockford Fosgate has always made some of the hardest hitting subs around and they continue to do so. Just look at who holds the world record SPL right now...Fosgate. I just ask that you please do not knock an entire company for one product. It's not Rockford's fault you couldn't afford their better subs. Would you talk junk about Ford if you bought an Escort and it wouldn't run as fast as a Mustang? What do you expect? You get what you pay for.
