Strength:

Incredible subwoofers when you run them in a sealed SPL in closure and powered by a high quality amp. Like the MTX 4250D Elite series amplifiers. By far the best hitting cleanest sounding system I've ever owned. I've had a lot of different brands of subwoofers and 4 different models of MTX and these are with out a doubt the greatest series of MTX subs ever to have been made. Most definitely the best for the money and they will give subwoofers out of their class a run for their money. If you can find a new set of any of the MTX THUNDER SERIES subs from 2001-2003 buy them!!!!!!!!!!!

Weakness:

The only few weakness of these subs are the single voice coil, and they stopped making them after only a 3 year run. Wish they would have kept on making them for longer. Oh and another thing, this is not a weakness. The MTX THUNDER 9500 12" subwoofer was proclaimed to be the very first super woofer, and paved the way for composition subwoofers. It was a 2000 watt peak / 1000 watt RMS DVC with a 260oz. Motor, and required a special made MTX enclosure. The new price of it was 799.99$ for just the sub and 249.99$ for the enclosure. They still make the 9500 series, but it's called the 95 and they also have the 75, and the 55. The 95 still cost 799.99$ and is still the most badass sub you can buy. It beats the hell out of the JLW7 anyday of the week. The JL cost 599.99$ and can't hold a candle to it.

Model Reviewed: MTX Thunder 6000 10"

Strength:

102 oz magnet
Weighed 37 lbs on my scale
When housed properly in a sealed enclosure, the spl and quality of sound is pretty amazing.
Originally used a R-Fosgate punch 200, but found a R-Fosgate Power 500BD in a Scion xD.
Let's just say I keep a box or earplugs in my glove box...
I Dj Drum and Bass and need a solid sub for judging the quality and texture of the recordings of tracks in my collection, on a 20hz-100hz sweep on audio toolbox it really peaks between 27hz and 60hz.
It handles the power 500bd pretty damn well.
Between my wife and I it has to take the abuse of DnB, happy/uk hardcore, dubstep/garage, house, techno, hip hop, rock and even trap(gags) and it can handle hard fast paced baselines with relative ease and clarity... Well worth the purchase price and definitely a step up from the PPI 10" I bassmurdered before finding this, I literally managed to char the copper leads from the connection plate to the woofer cone, charred black cooper:(

Weakness:

This woofer basket is too big for a standard 10 enclosure whole. I couldn't fit it into the MTX band pass enclosure my PPI came in.
I had to circ saw the plexi end half of the box off and then had to mark the basket leg points on the box with sharpie and drill divots for it to fit in the enclosure. Then I had to seal the entire area around the woofer with caulk to get a perfectly sealed enclosure and finally eliminate the 70hz distortion I was getting. Beyond that it's been smooth sailing. One 10" sub that you can hear roughly 3 - 4 light poles away(how we measured system power in fla in the late 80's) I literally have had entire bus stops dancing in downtown Minneapolis with this sub.
For the $, one of the best subs you'll find without stepping up a few $ to an infinity kappa perfect Q(2005ish).

This sub + a quality amp=SoundKlash Warfare
Go for the sealed enclosure and save the ported boxes for the kiddies...

Model Reviewed: MTX Thunder 6000 15 inch

Strength:

Very strong voice coils, large magnet, 750 watts per sub is nothing to be upset with. Also, they just look great. Long throw. 4 ohms, so with two of them and a two channel amp you can run 2,4,or 8 ohms. Lots of versatility, get max sound, max quality or right in between.

Weakness:

only one voice coil.
Had to take them out of my truck because I couldn't fit them under the seat of my Dodge Ram 1500

had my 2 15inch thunder 6000's in my dodge ram 1500 on a semi decent old power acoustic. Now, i had a 400 watt peak amp on two subs rated at 750 watts apiece in a small sealed enclosure. I had window and door panel flex like crazy and hit 110 decibels, under-powered, in a small box, and a vehicle with limited airspace. Then I put the in my friends Subaru Outback. On a piece of crap boss amp in the same box i passed 130 decibels, because of the shape and airspace of the car. I personally watched them literally blow the trunk of a honda civic open. These are rediculous subs. fully powered with a GOOD QUALITY AMP!!!! you will see insane quality with these. I will not sell mine to anyone because I have become so attached to them. If you are on the fence about buying thunder 6000's get off the fence and buy them.

Similar Products Used:

1. JL 15w6 DVC - fantastic subs. Louder than the MTX's because their DVC
2. Memphis 124d - they have a carbon fiber cone and they are loud. almost can compete with the MTX 15's
3. Used the 2 15 inch JL 15w6's at the same time as the MTS 15s and I had a lot of trouble breathing in the vehicle because it compressed my chest so much
4. 12 inch Rockford Fosgate Punch's - good intro sub, doesn't compete with the others listed so far.
5. had 6 12inch FLI 12TA's - had one amp per two subs and it was pointless. for six twelves it wasn't very loud and even with a 4 farad capacitor I still blew my alternator (should've expected that I guess) Not good subs, don't buy them

Model Reviewed: MTX 6000

Strength:

These subs are decent for the price. I have one powered by a sh!tty lightning audio 250w rms amp and it sounds ok.

Weakness:

Distorts like mad when played loud. Put your tongue between your lips and blow if you want to hear how these subs sound when played loud. (This could PARTLY be because of the sh!tty amp)

These subs don't get very low. I'm guessing about 30hz.

Not terribly accurate.(could be the amp)

Good sound for the money. I bought 2 at a pawn shop for $100 and they came with boxes. I am currently only using one. I have $75 into it (amp, sub&box) and I am pretty sure that I got $75 worth of bass. I can't ask for more than that.
