Strength:
good looks small enclosure
Weakness:
price distortion i would not recomend these subs to anyone unless u listen to music at low levels. I had one in my Olds Cutlass it pounded hard but made an excessive amount of cone noise or distortion. it only pounded hard on rap(Eminem,Dre,Ludacris). It was bad because i listen to a little bit of everything (rock, rap, country),so i need a sub that performs well in all areas, the Kicker did not. my rockfords blew this thing out of the water in every area. Strength:
- able to hit EXTREMELY low notes (the kind that make your heart feel funny) - excellent construction - the small box is always a plus
Weakness:
- limited usability (meaning, they MUST be in a small box and they MUST have a big power supply, forgot about them otherwise) - no mid-bass to speak of (though you shouldn''t be expecting much). One note on this; my 2000 GT has (had?) the Mach 460 audio system which includes a funky plastic ported enclosure for the rear Kappa 52.1i''s. They produce more mid-bass than I need in this configuration, which is why I added the Kicker R13''s). I have two 8-ohm 12" Solo''s running on an Infinity Beta Digital 300, wired parallel, in a 2000 Ford Mustang GT coupe. Also, I paid $200 a piece for them new. Here''s the rest of the system: Kenwood KDC-8017 CD/MP3 Kenwood KGC-9044 full-DIN EQ Two sets of Infinity Kappa 52.1i 5.25" Two sets of Kicker R13 tweets for high-freq fill-in Two Profile Clarus CL440 (50w x 4) for powering the 52.1i''s and R13''s A 1-farad Lightning Audio cap Space is at a premium in my 2000 GT, so I needed a pair of small-box subs. I knew the Solo''s were talked about as GREAT small-box subs, and I managed to locate a pair of them, brand-new, being sold at a discount because the new square models were already available. In my .85^3ft sealed box, the two Solo''s sound INCREDIBLE. The Infinity Beta Digital 300 feeds 1000w x 1 mono, so each sub should be getting 500w, close to their max RMS rating. I''m not gonna make up any stupid BS stories about blowing the windows out of houses a mile away, but suffice it to say, these 12''s were a very very good investment. Feed em the power they need and they''ll rock your world! Strength:
I have a pair of 8 inch solos in a little truck. The space is limited but the speakers fit just great. The quality of sound is amasing when powered correctly. They do require a ton of power but it is worth the sound that is coming from two 8 inch subs. They sound like two 10 inch kicker comps but is much more durrable and requires a lot less space.
Weakness:
I have them currently running off of a 240 watt Precision Power amp, but they need more power. Solos are "meant" to be played at max power to get max performance. If not they don't produce the quality of sound they should. Solos are a high quality speaker if powered right. They produce all ranges of precise bass. If you are going to spend the buck for the speaker, spend the buck for the amp. I am saving for a SX50 Kicker amp. It produces 375 watts @ 2 ohms mono(perfect for my speakers). Kicker also sells a very wide range of add-ons for amps to perfect the sound you are looking for, unlike other brands. The speaker itself is very versitile for all types of bass, wether the hard hitting or the smooth rumble. Kicker also has a very informative website! Strength:
I have 2 solo-baric 10's in a custom ported enclosure, and they sound great. Very, very accurate, deep, and clean. Every note is hit with authority and it sounds very natural.
Weakness:
Price and the amount of power it takes to run them. I am running the solos with a Kicker DX 350 class D amp that is 175x2. They sound like 12's in the enclosure that i have them in but have the accuracy of 10's. The best of both worlds. I love these subs. It took me a while to be able to afford them, but they are worth the money. I am very satisfied. Similar Products Used: None |

Looks good. Small box requirements.
Weakness:
This these things just require too much damn power. I only paid 150 a piece for mine. I have them running off of my punch 400.4. Since they are 4 ohm and my amp is 4 ohm stable in mono, I have wired them independently to the amp. I am giving them each at least 300 watts of clean Rockford power, and they just aren't doing it for me. I'm not sure if I am expecting too much from the speakers or if they just need tons of power. I am figuring I can sell these on ebay for more than I paid, then I will purchase a pair of Image Dynamics IDQ 12s. A lot of my friends have them and they are deadly accurate with a lot less power. I will give these speakers 4 stars though because I'm probably just not giving them enough power, but I don't have the time and patience to buy new amps, etc. Similar Products Used: Model Proaudio(speakers local to my area)-great in a ported box, Punch XLC-good for money, Punch RF-good for the money |

Strength:
good bass and loud low bass
Weakness:
none that guy who said his mtxs are better is full of crap because i had a kicker comp.(old series) that was wore out that sounded better than my mtxs that burned out in 2 days and i was using the mtx 4300x amp which is very powerfull with a kenwood cd player. heck my pioners can handle that amp why couldn't the mtx. so i would highly recomend the kickers. oh my amp pushes over 200 rms into 2 bridged and the pioneers are rated only at 160rms so that tells you that mtx subs aren't that great. Strength:
The Solo Baric really hits. Had them for less than a month and i think i am already deaf. The power the can handle is awesome.
Weakness:
Only one thing truly bothers me, TOO MUCH JUICE!!!! These subs take to much juice. I fixed that problem though with a Phoenix Gold 1-Farad capacitor. Much better. (i also added a higher amp alternator. In my mind these are one of, if not the best subs out there. I only paid $600 for 3 12" Barics. I am only using two 12" Solo's in a dual box powered by a Kicker ZR240 bridged and they severely pump the bass. And think they can handle many more watts than i have into them. I used to own two 10" comps and they dont even compare. I am much more satisfied now. Like i said though, they take alot of juice and they will drain your lights. But that capacitor fixed it. I also got a higher amp alternator. I highly suggest these subs. Similar Products Used: Kicker Comp10 |
