Strength:
high quality double stitched surround so it wont tear at high spl.
Weakness:
none unless you give them more power then the specs limit you to.the linear travel of the sub could be longer. i have owned many different subs and these comps are by far the best ones i have ever owned for the buck. They hit hard and clean, great subs for listening to hard rock(punchy and clean) but will still pick up the low pounding bass of rap. ok for all you misinforments out there these subs will only distort if you do one of two things or both at the same time, either you are turning your amp up to high(to much rms power) and pushing them past their linear travel and causing horizontal motion distortion or you have a shi*ty amp that isn't efficient, and it is causing the distortion. how do i know?(cause i did it to with my first pair of subs) i would recommend RMSing these subs at 250 to 350 watts any more and you will get horizontal motion distortion. i recently hit 145.2db at a usac competition with 2 of these that is a crazy number for a correctly caliberated mic, most 15's cant do that in a hatch back. i got two words: LIVIN' LOUD!!! Similar Products Used: digital audio daw120s, daw128dvc, kenwood db+(also an eccellent sub), and jlw0's (very good subs also) but the kickers are the best so far(i have run everything on the same amp(a g1800-2 power acousti |

2002 kicker comp vr 12"
Strength:
Extreme power handling, Good bang for the Buck, Sounds good in small enclosures.
Weakness:
Over heats easly, I have burnt up 3 subs in 1 year, I guess it was too much power. I started out in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with 2 kicker comp 12" subs and an alpine 300 watt amp. I thought I was in high cotton and then I got more enthused with the car audio business. I became good friends with a man that won 3rd in the world in 1995 in the expert class who ran 8 phoenix gold 15's and I felt like I needed to boost my system in order to keep my pride. I then moved to a montero sport and had that man build me a custom box to hold 4 kicker comp vr 12" subs. With all of those subs I had to buy a bigger amp. I got an Ample Audio 1200 Watt class X amp. Now I was banging with some style and not to mention am going deaf, but that is a different story all to gather. I traded cars again and now I am sporting a Toyota 4-runner. Since I traded cars I decided to enhance my audio system too. I purchased 2 Ample Exonic Series 900 watt amps and an additional 2 subs. I now have SIX Kicker comp vr 12" subs and 1800 watts of power. That is 300 watts to each sub. The only down side was that I had to upgrade my power system, so I purchased an Optima yellow top battery and a Lightning Audio "Strike Series" 2 farad cap. Now the only thing louder than me in town is that dude with the 16 JL 8w6's in a extended cab ford truck. But I did beat him in competition for sound quality. I am going to a db drag in 2 weeks and I will let ya know how I do. Similar Products Used: Phoenix Gold 15" JL Audio 12w0 JL Audio 12w3 JL Audio 15w6 Audiobauhn 8" Linear compression sub x 3 |

Good product for the money!!! Deep Loud Heart Stop Bass...does not clip oR distort...Dual Voice Coils for Wiring Flexibility..Rubber Surround so it can't tear...
Weakness:
Needs a good amplifier though.... I just got a pair of 2003 12-inch Kicker Comp CVR Dual 4 Ohms...and let me tell you all......THey Rock!... I got them sittin' in a sealed box wired parallel to 2-ohms in my 2000 Honda ACcord with the bench seat NOt folded down, and they can take quite a beating.. They are being powered by an ol' skool Rockford 800a2 punch amplifier, with a 1 farad Lightning Audio Capacitor for the extra juice (YOu don't want to look funny with the headlights dimming)...After you break them in (run at 1/2 volume for at least 6 hours), the subwoofers are ready to rock the block, and the next street down!!!... I got them off ebay for $180 including shipping.. The woofers can handle 400wattsRMS and 800 max...The first time I turned them way up, I got really nausea from the bass that was pulsating through my body and let me warn you of other thing too, TIGHten the screws on your license plate, because one of my screws have aleardy fallen off ( I mean it was literally hanging by one screw, then I got pulled over!) ...The rubber surround is awesome, so you never have to worry about it tearing...I got my money's worth, and I basically wrote this article to let you know that it's time to get your money's worth ....If you want to see your rear view mirror rattle inch by inch away from your eyes, this is the product that is going to get you this ....~Kicker "Live Loud!" Similar Products Used: 2 12" MTX THunder 4000 subwoofers for $100(Still works but after a year the foam surround tore badly affecting the performance,,,,MTX is garbage)...Rockford 12" HX2 DVC's for $315 from a local dealer |

built really nicely. havn't seen stitched surround on another sub, besides other kicker subs.
Weakness:
after a few minutes of playing time you can really smell the voice coils. they stink. they have been that way since the day i got them till the day i blew them up. although i give kicker credit it took me 6 months to blow the subs up at there rms rating so much can be said about this sub. i have a pair of comp vr 12's. they do hit hard. i am hitting mid 140's. around 145. this is on the linear x meter, which is generally 4-5 db lower than termpro or audio control. i am running them off of a cadence z9000 rated at 800 rms. the amp is absolutely outstanding. these subs don't distort at all. but there sound quality just sucks ass. it's not anywhere near what i like. i have them in a 1. 85 cu ft ported/vented box in the hatch of a 1996 eclipse. Conservatively rated, inexpensive, quality, torture tolerant
Weakness:
Absolutely none When my pair of C12's showed up in the mail, I couldn't wait to put them to the test. I installed them in custom homemade 1.2cuft boxes and have them powered by a JBL bp300.1 amplifier. I must say, with the bp300 and the kicker C12's both being conservatively rated, they match up perfectly. Dam do they pound. I've got my levels almost all the way down and the bass on the hu down and they still kick hard. I would definately recommend these subs! Similar Products Used: Rockford fosgate, coustic, mtx, pyramid(heh), concept, etc...nothing beats these kickers! |

Excellent build quality. Truly powerful 15 Good looks
Weakness:
I've seen a few Single VC 15s that at least hold their own against this sub for a fraction of the price. I myself don't own the subs we're discussing but I'd like to add my two cents. A friend of mine has two of these built into a wall he installed in his Chevrolet Berreta. They are powered by a Kicker 1200.1 amplifier and are being pushed pretty much all of the way to the speakers distortion threshold. The setup is tuned for high Db and has sacrificed much of his low end through some extreme porting to create a peakier yet louder sound curve. The tones it hits are as you'd expect... enough to piss off old people from a long ways off but that's all people around here like to rate their loudness on. I heard guy with a pair of amplified 6X9s that'd piss off old people from a great distance. He expects it to rate at around 155 Db. It is to that point where you actually get ear aches after a few minutes whereas most can only do with high. Believe me, when you get an earache from listening to tones around 60HZ it's truly powerful. When you are trying to cover your ears but still enjoy the experience you realize how difficult it is to breate in over a half breath. He has had no realibility problems in 3 months that I know of. I feel less impressed from the subs as far as value because he had to set up a wall and dynomat the entire car to hit as hard as he does. Actually before he got his more powerful amp my 1010GX and Pyramid 1200 Watt subs hit just as hard. I imagine if I push my 15s to their maximum there wouldn't be A difference you could hear without a meter between our two systems. Rubber surround, stiff cone, and an air-tight rubber gasket. Awesome excursion. Don't bottom out like my kenwoods.
Weakness:
Yeah right, none yet. I bought 2 of these brand new for less than $170 and they totally blow my previous set up (4 kenwood tornados)out of the water. I'm only running 230 rms x2 but they will make your ears bleed. I have already pissed off a lot of people on the cruise and have had numerous complaints from old fogies who hate loud bass. I just roll my windows down and turn it up as loud as possible to piss them off even more. They flip me off, they shake their fist, and that makes me very pleased. They're still looking for some more power... I hope the Kicker XS50 I bought will satisfy their hunger.
Weakness:
None. Some guy said the grills are expensive and they are but I'm about to make my own. These subs are the best bang for the buck anywhere. Brand new - I paid just 170 for both of them. I've got a friend who paid almost that for 1 of his MTX 8000s. His do hit harder - but he has 1000 watts to them. In my Blazer, I've got the Kicker KX400.2 bridged to one 4ohm mono on my two, so each sub is getting just about 228 watts. They hit like no other - if my car wasn't so insulated (i suppose it's actually i good thing) - I could turn everyone's head instead of just half of everybody's. I can turn the gain all the way up and the bass boost to 12dB and my volume on my head unit past half and my ears are ringing immediately - best yet - no distortion. Not only do they hit - the sound quality is superb. They hit very low for 12s IMO - I can feel it, and you can hear the different bass tones - no one note wonder hear. It even reaches up into some of the higher bass. I love 'em. You will too. Similar Products Used: It's my first set in the car but I've been into home audio for years. Of course you deal more with bass in the home than with sub bass so... |
