Strength:
Great for the money, easy to power, strong bass.
Weakness:
Too boomy for good sound quality. I hate to be the one rater out of all the other raters here who said this sub was great, but I was actually disappointed by this sub. Great sub for the money, but not for the those whose main interest is sound quality. I just bought one 10W0 the other day from a friend who had it for two months. It's contained in a JL Audio Powerwedge box and powered by a JL Audio 300/2 amp. About a year ago I owned a 10W3v2 powered by the same amp so that is my reference. Upon connecting my W0, I first started playing some hip-hop songs to hear some bass. I was expecting some deep tight bass with quality a little less than the W3, but I was sadly disappointed. The bass was very boomy that it disgusted my ears. I played around with the settings on my amp and headunit (Pioneer Premier), but it was very difficult to get the sub to play good sound quality. I played some more mellow bass like Jill Scott or D'Angelo since these notes are easier on subs, but it still did not sound good. I still have installed in my car, but I don't have the sub turned up much just because I really don't like the sound. Now please don't take my review as just negative. The sub really is pretty impressive for the money. They pushed a lot harder than most $80 subs I've heard. For those who want bass in small spaces and prefer boom over tight bass, I really would easily recommend them. It doesn't take much to power then being that I was able to play them loud. I actually sold my sub already for a 10W3 (no comparison), but it still is a great sub for the money. Similar Products Used: JL Audio 10W3v2, Infinity 1030W |

Strength:
Quality, Clear bass Small box Low current draw
Weakness:
Low power handeling (250 watts RMS) I just installed these in my camry. I am not impressed. They don't really hit as hard as I had hoped them to. They are quailty and will last you 2 years plus (my friends lasted 2 years and 4 months without blowing) so in that aspect they are good. It all really depends on what you are going for. If you wanna shake the block, these are not for you. If you don't have much space and just want a little extra bump in your trunk buy these. Strength:
Great sound quality at this price. One year free carry-in free replacement if bought at an authorized dealer.(You may want to verify this)
Weakness:
Realtively low power handling if you crave that. Foam surround instead of rubber is good and bad. May separate from cone after several years, but most people won't use theirs for that long anyway. I hear that you get no warranty if you buy online. I first bought the power wedge box with this sub in it about 6 years ago. It performed flawlessly for all that time until just a few weeks ago when it finally gave out! Throughout the six years I would audition subs of similar price in local shops and I never did find one that could beat my old 10W0! Even though the power handling is not that great on paper, this thing is tough. I use a basic 300W bridged Blaupunkt amp(PA2100) and it sounds great to me. The quality of the sound is what is so impressive to me. Very accurate and not boomy or sloppy at all. I have been tempted to buy something more expensive or switch to another brand but I decided to just get another one of these since I was so happy with my first one. I was surprised to see that they still made these after 6 years! That is surely a sign that they did this one right since people are still buying these after all these years. I know that the new W1V2's will come out soon, but I couldn't live without my bass for long so I got a new 10W0 and am very happy! Anyone who doesn't need max db's but does want nice sound quality at a nice price should get these. Similar Products Used: sony X-Plod(terrible) |

Um.. BASSY
Weakness:
Well if there had to be one, maybe too bassy ;). Actually I take that back, how can you be too bassy I feel like alot of people say that these things are GREAT.. and some say that they suck. Well I personally say they are GREAT... and the people who don't like them must be either under/overpowering them (I am just using a 1000W Sony amp which is turned right down), wrong box type (I am using a sealed rear firing box), bad wiring (I am using a mix of monster cable and stinger), or the wrong wiring setup for that type of amp (I am better off hooking them both up mono in parallel because of the way my amp distributes power). So personally I feel that they thump HARD, and for the people who say that they don't.. I would seriously check your wiring and wattage. |

JL Audio 10w04
Strength:
- Hits extremely hard. - Can really carry some low bass. - Sounds good no matter what music you listen to. - Good power handling abilities (low - high)
Weakness:
- Outer paper ring comes off very easy. - Dust cap can be pushed in very easy and damaged. Very strong sounding sub. When first purchased them, they felt like they were breaking my soul they hit so hard. The kind of thump you could not only hear but feel deep inside of you. After about 2 years, they seem to be much less "thumpish". You could only hear them not feel them anymore. After the 3rd year, you could barely hear them, didn't want to crank up anything cause they were distorted and just royally sucked. I was planning on buying some new ones since there was no sense in running them if you could listen to them. Then I went to the JL Audio website and browsed the site. I looked through the wiring tutorial and decided to wire them per the diagram for 2 ohm wiring. Guess what, hey are back strong as ever. not really sure why but they sound as good if not better than when i first installed them. They are running on a Boss Riot amp (RT-335). Very sweet setup, definitely not competition styl but I am not in comps. They are in my car for my listening. They compliment the music so well. SO if you are looking for a pair of subs that make music sound glorious by adding that extra kick you can experience, I would highly recommend these subs. The only weekness I have really discovered about these subs are (and it's mostly my fault for taking them in and out a lot) the outer paper ring around the subs has come off also, it's an old school dust cap that you can push in easy if your not carefull. All in all, they are the better sub for your money. Ya might pay a little more for them but you know what ya get, and that is excellence. Strength:
good sound quality, and loudness as expected from JL's name and reputation.
Weakness:
They hit a little too much into the high end of the frequencies, but nothing that couldn't be fixed w/ a crossover or eq. I know that there are some statements towards the durability of the sub, but so far i haven't had any problems. I'm runnin just 1 sub of an alpine 5 channel. I got them mainly because of their efficiency. I tried an E-type alpine 10, and i think these sound quite a bit better. Well the sure as heLL sound better than my old mtx blue thunder. I mean like DAMN. I'd say the only weakness is that they hit a little too much on the high end of the frequencies. BTW the alpine amp runs bout 100w 2 that channel, and i have them in a ported box and it is in an suv which usually makes all the diff. so just to let u know my opinion of them is a little biased Similar Products Used: Somewhat similar kicker comp vr (better SQ and boom, but requires more power than i have in my suburban for right now), Alpine type-E (this is better if u don't have all the power in the world), mtx bluthunders (quite old 1's but get spanked compared 2 jl's, but costed a lot less), polk grx's ( about same wattage, but kinda crappy sub unless u have a very specific box for them sealed only, ported sound like crap, jl better nyday), audiobahn aw12T's not gonna compare cause those were 12's, JBL GT100 (about equal on SQ, but JL's little deeper...JBL's like bigger boxes than space i want 2 use and more power than i have) |

While not too expensive, they offer: Great sound, Look nice, hit hard and quick. Perfect for Rock and other progressive music.
Weakness:
Center Dust Cap is easy to push in outside mount made of paper that will slowly fall apart if not well taken care of Nothing but good words for these subs. Though they cost maybe 20 bucks more than the average sub, they are more than worth it. I'm running 2 in a JL Audio PowerWedge Box powered by a JL Audio 250/1 amp. It simply is awesome. They will hit great for Rock, and some styles of music where a monster bass hit does not drag on forever, but they can handle r&b well. Defiantely a great value, and these are only the economical ones! Similar Products Used: Fosgate 12s-not as clean sounding as JLs Sony 12s-not as clean sounding as JLs |

*Good sound *Good price, *Lightweight *Sensitive.
Weakness:
*Old school round dustcap...it can get pushed it in if you're not careful. *Foam surround...can deteriorate quickly under sunlight, humidity, etc. Hmmm...I use them every six months I go on leave back home, were my Celica is. My dad uses them the rest of the year in his Tercel. In my car, I have a Kicker XS50 moving them...BRIDGED...no distortion, no problems. I can admit that some batches of subwoofers are less quality than others, so maybe my pair came from a good batch. Anyway, if you blow them up easy, get a good amp and come back later and review them again...OR...don't expect them to perform to standards that they cannot measure to...these are economic subwoofers, not competition ones...treat them accordingly.
