Strength:

VERY LOUD & LOW
extremely high output w/ low power

Weakness:

not the best SQ...but that's not what these are intended for
somewhat sloppy & boomy

these subs have the best ratio of ouput:power input of any sub i have ever heard...
i had around 300 watts to 1 12" Vega, and it pounded as if i had 2 15's in the back
VERY LOUD!!! that pretty much sums it up in one word
LOUD!

Similar Products Used:

kicker comps, kenwood (blah!), fosgate xlc
would recommend the Vega before any of these
just can't match the output:input ratio

Strength:

Very loud. LOW bass for a ported box. Handles tons of power. (I run the 15"s)

Weakness:

The fact that cerwin vega only reccomends a ported box for this line of subs. I recently put ONE of my 15" vega series subs in a 2.38 sealed box and the sound quality is soo much better *it is now my computer sub* They reccomend the ported box for the loudness of it....this line of woofers is generally thought of as a competition sub.

i paid $300 for 2 15"s new and it is a really good deal for the amount of sound you get. I seriously don't reccomend ported boxes for the 12/15 but the 8/10 proabably would not sound acceptable because the QTS isn't between "sealed box guidelines"

I have 1 15" hooked to a Rockford Power 1100a2 and it sounds pretty good...even with full bass boost. The ported box is too SPL'y though.

I fully reccomend this line of subs for anybody that wants good bass without shelling out 3 weeks of salary.

*note*

to anybody that says they are bottoming out this line of subs:

1. get a big amp...not a RF 100a2 Which is about 200 watts

2. don't make your own boxes if you don't know what your doing. these subs need 1 inch of polyfil stapled to the inside of the enclosure to sound good....trust me.

Strength:

none

Weakness:

LACK OF SQ ...BOTTOM OUT , large enclosure needed

this sub is fine for beginners but not really something that i would keep in my car....i had 2 cv124 in my eclipse with about 800watts of RF power...NOT VERY IMPRESSED....LOUD RATTLING , AND POPPING NOISE when bass would really hit...do not recommend this sub!...sold the subs...and got some audiobahn AW1200....MUCH much BETTER!!!!

To compare the Vega series subs to others like the Thunder 7000 is to completely ignore what the two subs are designed for. This sub is designed to do one thing- slam. And it does that. One 12" will hit 117dB and requires a measly 200 watts to do so. A 7000 series will require four times the power (since it is 6dB less sensitive) to get the same SPL as a Vega and will only hit 114dB in the first place, due to the shorter linear excursion capability. If you prefer the sound of sealed subs or are more interested in flat frequency response than knocking your fillings out then by all means, buy another sub. However, this is one driver that is incredibly clean and can really belt out the bottom end. It accomplishes exactly what CV engineers wanted it to and for that deserves five very loud stars.

I had two of these CV-124's in the hatchback of my Firebird. I thought they sounded great, until I turned them up. Th distortion was irritable, the voice coil would bottom out on the magnet, making a loud popping noise. I have a fairly big sized Rockford Fosgate amp ( a punch 100 to be exact ). Not only did the sound lack, the box size was terrible. I had no room what so ever in my hatchback. About two weeks later I turned to the name my friend lives by KICKER. purchased one 12" "Solo-Baric" for the cost of around 3/4 of the two CV-124's, bridged my amp, had three times the box space, and the sound was amazing. I say to anyone purchasing subs in a small space, look into the Kicker Solo-Baric. It will rock your world as it did me.
As for the CV-124's I give them a one, just because of the name Cerwin Vega....their home equipment rocks, these subs suck.
-------------------

That noise you were hearing, the one you called "bottoming out noise" was because your amp was WAY too week, 100W? What was happening was you were turning it up past your amp's ability, and the wave was falling off causing a sharp jittery noise... I was pushing a pair of them on a 2200W Amp and it wasn't possible to bottom them out! Just out of curiosity I hooked the sub's up to a "House amp" and watched a DVD, if you tried turning the volume real loud to the sub's they let out a nasty noise (probably what you heard)

Anyway, as far as a review goes: I haven't had a chance to play them off the 2200W amp for more then a day because I somehow managed to blow it out (shortly after melting a 40AMP fuse) I've been powering them off a PPI 700W Amp, and they don't sound nearly as loud (for good reason) and my rear view mirror hasn't fallen off the winshield yet so I guess they just don't hit quite hard enough as of now :)

(Compared to my old 12's the Vega's hit harder with less power, and ran ice cold under 2200W of stress compared to my old 12's that smoldered and eventualy burnt out)

These are the best subwoofers for any kind of car audio application I have ever seen. They not only have excellent quality (when used with the correct amp), but they also pump out more bass at higher SPL levels than I've ever heard. They blow the MTX 7000 out of the water! With 400 watts RMS power handling and a 1.5" excursion, these subs will literally shatter the windshild of your car!I give them a big 5.

I used the MTX 3000 and 7000 series 12" sub and found them VERY lacking.. The 7000 sounded fine, but needed too much power to really HIT... then i tried Image Dynamics IDQ 12" and it was pretty weak... Then I tried the VEGA 124... this is the last sub I will ever buy.. not only does it sound as good if not better than the MTX or IDQ.. it ROCKS!!! LOUD.. i will say that i did need a LARGE box for it but it is worth it.. i won the forst IDBL comp i entered with it.. Cerwin Vega helped with the box design for my car as it need to be tuned WAY low.. but what a final result.. I would recomend this sub to anybody that wants ALOT of bass for not alot of $$$ .
