Strength:

supreme sound quality when seriesed at 8 ohms to a mono amp( 4 ohm load. pair) great power handeling, great instalation. so much attention to the small things that make a sub great.

Weakness:

may cause severe hearing problems, and fits of jealosy from friends and cometition... power hungery subs.

Alright its time to separrate the true bass machines from the other crap people like to buy. the alpine type r series is truely a great sub, too many people look at how loud a sub is and rate its quality accordingly. Wrong! just because a sub is loud doesn't make it a good high quality sub. The alpine is over all built for the true bass lover, its nomex spider and large magnet show that it's ready for the truely enormous power loads, the voice coils are exquisitly crafted, and extremely versitile. dual voice coil, the whole bit." be sure you know how to run dual voice coil subs or they will sound awful. they need little box space and have a great looking instalation. Overall a great sub. and yes I know what I'm talking about, I've been in the car audio buisness for 7 years. so go for the sound quality and spl, by the wat my pair hit143 spl with only 200 watts going to each sub, BOX MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!! an awsome sub buy it, but don't pay moe than $130.00 or else your paying to much even though it's worth a whole lot more.

Strength:

Deep Bass, great overall sound, and can take long periods of listening time unlike some subwoofers.

Weakness:

Very Heavy indeed takes maybe two people to lift unless you are strong enough.

I know this is a alpine forum, but for all the bass addicts out there you might have heard of a sub called bumper. Now the bass out of one of this subs if connected to a powerful amp has more bass then 2 alpine type r Subs and that is my personnel view. I am only running a 2 ch boss 400w amp on the sub which is 300w rms only and it makes my whole car shake so just imagine it when i get a powerful amp it will KICK. DAMM the BASS is DEEP.

Strength:

Hard hitting bass and having everyone look at you as you drive by.

Weakness:

This sub is freaking heavy and does not hit the high bass notes very well. I would suggest some nice mid-bass speakers to blend over.

These subs hit pretty freakin hard. I have 600watts going to 1 12 and this one sub pounds harder then some of my friends 2 10s. Sound quality is good and clear. I have heard just about every name brand sub made and this sub is probably number 3 on my list under the JLw7's and Eclipse Titaniums. These subs are worth your money and I would recomend them to anyone.

Strength:

sound good and are pretty cheap

Weakness:

make sure you have a lot of power going to them, they can take what you have

Well, I was a little skeptical of the whole alpine car aduio series. To my amazement two 12 inch type R's hit pretty good. I have only one problem, i made a previous box for some subs. The old subs needed 1.3cubic the type R's need 1.1 so i do belive that the subs are not sounding as well as they could. Never the less for the economic shopper this is the way to go, two thumbs up by me...

Strength:

Clean, clear, deep, amazing bass. Also look pretty sweet. 4" DVC. Nice push terminals.

Weakness:

Heavy as a mo fo.

This review is on the APN SWR1221D's (same thing as 1241D's just dual 2 Ohm instead of dual 4ohm) cause they don't have a page for them. I purchased the babies after a person told me that he had his two 12" type R's and said that they hit hard. I have an MTX thunder81000D amp hook up to it running at 2ohms. The amp is pushing about 1100W RMS (550W to each!!!) to both of these subs and they show it. They pound like crazy. Amazing clear deep bass. I drive by parked cars and set their alarms off. The specs on these subs are 1000W peak and 300RMS (Wrong) i got over 500RMS and they take it no prob. I have heard JL W3's, Kicker L7 12's, RF HX2 12's, and Worst of all sony. These Alpine hit better than all the above. The only subs that i have heard that can compare are MTX 8000 subs and may be kickers. (dispite what any one tells you the MTX8000's are pretty nice and probably equal to the alpines.

Strength:

Deep bass, dual voice coils, high power handling.

Weakness:

Kick drum type bass impact lacking just a little, need good midbass speakers to blend with them.

I have 2 of these in 1.1 cubic foot sealed enclosures that I built. They're getting about 350 watts each. They have excellent sound quality and are pretty loud. These are real SUBwoofers. The bass is very very deep and smooth, and pretty tight too. However they aren't very loud above 60 hz. Also they can handle about 500 watts even though they're rated at 300.
