Strength:

Great clearity and sounding, by far the best out for the price, better than any infinity's out there.

Weakness:

Not much bass, but ya cant expect that in any 2 way speaker.

Paid 150 at tweeter. Definately buy these if you do not want component speakers and do not want to spend 200+ on speakers, these sound better than most of the 200+ ones i heard at tweeter!

Similar Products Used:

Pioneer, Kenwood, both of which arent nearly as good as these

Strength:

Good value and excellent clarity.

Weakness:

After 18 months of conservative use I have intermittant buzzing from the bass notes and the tweeter surround has melted/distorted and crumpled the tweeter dome.

I submitted the very first review down below when purchased 18 months ago. Since then I've had an annoying and intermittant buzzing sound that synchs with moderate bass notes. I finally decided to inspect the cause of this irratation, suspecting a loosening in the installation screws/bolts somewhere. On inspection I was horrified to discover that the black tweeter pod surrounds had distorted and melted near the electrical connection to the axial capacitor. The distorton was severe enough to cause the center tweeter dome to crumple - both speakers show the same problem to more or less the same extent.
I have been running these speakers from an amp that gives out around 40 Watts per channel at 4 Ohms (Amp rated at 75 watts/2 Ohm) and this seemed a perfect rating match for the speakers (judging by the comments below and Bostons marketing of indestructive drivers I perceived that I could have thrown more power to them if needed). But I'm very sensitive about distortion so never had the volume raised to nasty levels in the past 18 months. Amazingly enough, both speakers still produced crystal clear treble even with this physical defect.
Qudos to Boston though. I sent them an email explaining the problem and they've graciously agreed to replace them free of charge. So I'm giving them 5 stars allround considering there prompt service.
It's still a mystery as to what caused this problem in the first place - maybe a one off bad production batch, who knows. But if it was a problem of power then I would not recommend running them anywhere near or past their continious 40 Watt power rating - these are perfectly fine for standalone head units though.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with these RX67's?
BTW - I recently purchased some killer Diamond Hex 6.5' 2 ways to replace my front pair. At $300, these Hex components are in a league of their own for sound and value. So sorry Boston, although you make one of the best value co-axials, your components can't quite compete with the cutting edge Diamonds for sound or value.

CLARITY, GREAT HIGHS AND MIDS, PRETTY GOOD BASS FROM A COAX

Bought these for $149.95. They are great speakers. They hadle 80watts RMS which is damn good for a coax speaker. The highs are awesome and so is the midrange. I have now have them crossed over at 100 so I don't have much bass going to them but before they were crossed over the bass was great. I have 65watts going into them and they play LOUD and clear. These are great speakers and I think they sound better than many of the component systems that are $200 such as the infinity refrences. These are great speakers and I highly recomend them. The best $150 speakers I have heard. Well these and the kappas.

Weakness:

Spacer required for most applications

I'm running a SONY CD Changer with Bass Force 4X150 Amp.
My speakers were originally 200 watt Boschman's 3 ways. Not the first word in quality but for 10 quid ($16 - yes $16 a pair) they were oustanding value at he time. They sounded fine for the money but I did notice immediateley that they sounded out of balance and unmatched in their pairing when packaged by the manufacturer otherwise they did the job. I used them for around 6 months when one day I heard the left rear speaker blow out with distortion on the bass at medium volume. I therefore went on the lookout for a new pair of 6 inches to replace the rears.
I had seen rave reviews on the Boston Acoustics and was tempted for the Rally component series. However they seemed to pricy and probably too good for my mid range set up. I therefore opted for their top of the line 2 way 6 inch - RX67 for $150.
They needed a 0.5 inch spacer for my Prelude and the dealer didn't stock Boston's own spacer. I relunctantly bought their universal spacer which was fine but I'd of preferred the custom Boston's for a perfect fit - Why can't dealers support the accessories for the range properly.
Anyway - got them in and wow. I could hear the difference in an instance. I could also fade between the front and rears to compare the Boston's against my working Boshmans in the front. The RX67's had noticeably better sensitivity and much crispness in clarity and detail. They also seemed to produce a tad more lower bass. Sweet!
If you want non component 6 inch speakers handling up to around 40 w rms then I can whole heartily recommend they these speakers. They yearn you to crank up the volume.

Strength:

Pretty nice highs, defined midrange, good speakers to replace factory speakers with.

Weakness:

They tend to distort at high volumes, the bass isn't there...

I would recommend these speakers to anyone wanting to replace factory speakers. If your serious about your sound however, I wouldn't get these as these are more for people that want to replace their speakers in their car, these would never be part of a "real" setup.

Strength:

The overall definition is perfect. Very clear, high sensitivity (95dB). Bass is outstanding for a coax this size and this price.

Weakness:

yeah right...

Overall probably the best 6.5" speakers I've ever heard. Price is great, and clarity amazing. The bass is outstanding for a speaker this size. While other speakers seemed out of balance, the Bostons were never too bright or muffled.
Some people claim they distort with an amp. Yeah, they might if your amp is really weak (35x4?! pathetic), or just plain cheap. I heard these on an Alpine head unit, and never heard clearer speakers in my life. My friend is running them (50x4 rms) off of his Eclipse and they sound fantastic. People often blame the speaker for sound quality when the amplifier or their enclosure is the problem.
I can't stress enought the clarity and balance of these speakers. No one else compares, unless you're willing to pay $240 for MB Quarts which are too bright anyway.
These are as good as it gets. For the price, everyone should buy these, whether you're upgrading from factory or wish to compete. They handle WAY more power than rated, and I still can't get over the price.

Similar Products Used:

MB Quarts (very similar), Infinity (Bostons have more bass), Pioneer (not as loud, MUCH more static)
