Strength:

Nice Display, fairly easy to use, Pioneer name and reputation, loads of features, EEQ, ruined the factory speakers the first week I had it (lots of power!)

Weakness:

VERY gradual volume up/down, I have to turn the rotary knob like four full turns just to turn up the volume, but otherwise, this unit is beautiful in every way

I have to say, this is the first time I have ever bought an aftermarket Radio. I have always dis-liked the way aftermarket units look in a car that has a bigger opening (Chrysler/GM size) for the radio. However, this Pioneer has changed my mind. I first saw it at Best Buy and didn't like the way it looked, and couldn't find anything else I liked so I went to circuit city. They didn't have anything either, but I took a second look at the pioneer. I asked the salesperson if it came with a remote, which he said "no, we stopped carrying that model (6200)." I also considered the 7200, with the dolphine display, but couldn't justify spending an extra $120 just for a cool graphics display and same features the 5200 offered. Well, after careful consideration, I decided to get the 5200 (the free JBL speakers they offered with it kinda sweetened the deal). I do have to say, after installation of both speakers and radio, i was impressed. What really blew my mind was it blew out my free JBL speakers, and the two remaning factory speakers are too, almost gone! This was in a week's time! I compared it to my Dad's DEH-11 and it is better. I think the MOSFET system sounds a little better than my dad's regular 40 x 4. All in all, I am impressed and would reccommend this one to anybody and everybody.

P.S.: Coincidently, my best-firend's Girl friend bought the 7200 and put it in her 98 Mustang. Naturally, I compared it to my 5200 and to me, the sound quality isn't too much different than mine. If anything I found the graphics display to be annoying while driving at night. I am not bashing the 7200 at all, It just didn't appeal to me like the 5200 did.

Strength:

Looks nice, sound good i like almost everything about it.

Weakness:

mine gets a little hot(probly just mine), needs crossover for rear speaker, dfs alarm is ok, if u have the right stuff for it. built in eq would be kinda hard to set if u dont know what ur doing.

i would recommend it if your on a budget. if not go with higher models like the 6200 thats what i have and i love it cost me more $$$ but its worth it. i bought the 5200 for my g/f should have gone with 6200 for her too cuz she likes the remote othe rwise i would highly recommend it.

Strength:

OK, this is one MOTHER of a cd player. ive had an alpine, and it was a piece when playing cdrs. THIS BEAST CAN PLAY CDR***W***s !!!!!!!! i LOVE IT. i really like the power, titling, and the alarm.

Weakness:

weak?

This thing sounds AWESOME. i LOVE it. for those having problems with the titling, read the manual, you INPUT the title yourself if the cd doesnt have it encoded. this has the NICEST options and greatest sound. i HIGHLY recommend it, you wont be sorry. the alarm is nice too. and you know what? look at it carefully, ive used a remote with it, you just have to take one off the 4100. it WORKS. all in all, one hell of a player. did i mention that it plays CDRWS? i mean we're not talking cdrs here, but cdrW's. i mean this is beauty....

Strength:

I love it all; Power, preformance, features, radio tuner, the box it came in.

Weakness:

I haven't run accross one yet. If I had one complaint it would be that it doesn't have a remote but if I wanted one that bad I could have bought the 6200.

This unit preformed CPR on my system. I previously had a Jensen CD310X. I didn't know how much the Jensen sucked until I put in this unit. I feel bad for giving the Jensen as high of a rating as I did. I am by no means am an audiophile but this baby has dumps like a truck and thighs like what. The power is great, like I said before CPR is the closest thing I can say to describe the upgrade. I love the volume knob. I also like the fact that most of the features are hidden. For example I don't need a repeat button becuase I will very rarely use it. However, if I ever do I can get there through the menu quickly to repeat the song. It is very easy to change quickly through the EQ's presets. I did have to read the manual to find where everything is but once I read it the deck is not that complicated to control. I read one review and it complained about the small buttons and the flip down face.
#1 I don't mind the flip down face if I did I wouldn't have bought it. I like the display too much to complain that I have to push a button for the face to flip down before I can insert a CD.
#2 the guy that complained about the small buttons would probably complain about the buttons if they were bigger. Yeah the buttons are small but they don't get in the way of each other. Maybe the source button could be in another location but I can manage. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. The sound is very crisp and I now get 300% more radio stations they I did with my Jensen. I paid $139 for it so that of course makes me even happier.

Strength:

Cheap, multi CD capability, simplicity (doesn't have hundereds of preamp outputs), bright easy to read display, very easy to use (particularly the rotary volume knob). Will recognize CD-R's with no problem. Disc title and artist recognition is cool.

Weakness:

nada

I had the 7200 from '00 and it made TONS of noise and PIONEER refused to fix it or replace it. I had purchasd the matching IP 12-disc changer so I had to stick with a PIONEER. Thus I returned the 7200 and got the 5200. The 7200 had some preamp output problem and was picking up tons of noise from the player mechanism. I do like the 5200 however and would recommend it if you don't have want to spend about $250 for something high quality and do not require a remote and 3 sets of preamp outputs.

Strength:

rotary knob. good rms power. quick selection of sound modes.

Weakness:

Bwaa...no CD-Text even though website says it does. So what if you can enter the titles yourself using the clumsy controls. Display is cluttered and icons on the screen are small. radio station buttons are easy to confuse with the source button and clock button.

$250, I think pioneer could have put more effort into this one. EQ range controls didn't have very good documentation on the manual on how to achieve the settings you desire.

Strength:

Plethora of options, colorful display, customizability

Weakness:

None to mention

Absolutely one of the best stereos for the money that I have ever seen. I spent over two months researching and auditioning countless CD decks, and when I finally finished, the DEH-P5200 stood far above the rest. It has features so numerous that I am still learning how to use some of them. It offers incredible control over the soundstage, with features like Front Image Enhancement and minute equlizer tweaks. On top of all that, it looks great! The rotary volume knob is a welcome change from most aftermarket stereos, which have push-button volumes for the most part. It makes my factory Chrylser/Infinity system sound better than ever! All in all, an absolutely wonderful product.

Strength:

It looks very cool. Nice big display with color. I like the rotary volume knob, I guess I like turning it to crank the volume. The EQ is very nice being right there to change it to whatever sounds best. I also like having the clock button and everything right there. It has decent sound and can really pump some bass out of my 4X6's (Polk EX462a). With the 45X4 gives plenty of power coming out and is pretty nice having the high and low pass cross over in the unit it's self.

Weakness:

The pop down face is alright. I guess I live with it for the simple reason I like the bigger display. It took me quite a while to figure out how to set the clock and I'm still trying to figure out some of the features on it(be sure to look if the feature is for a multi-cd changer set up). It really is pretty bright at night and the dimmer can short circuit some dimming switches (if the feature is on when you flip your headlights on it goes to half the brightness that is normally is). The alarm is crap don't even bother using it. A waste of money hooking up the relays and it blares the sound through your speakers (hard on your speakers!). Only works if the face plate is off and then why would a theft want anything anyway? Unless you want to go through the trouble of hooking up relays for the glass and everything it also only triggers if the door is opened. So don't bother with it(even though the car alarm stickers look kinda cool). Even though the cd won't pop out with out having the key in the ignition and in the "ON" position. I don't have that problem b/c i cannot turn my key towards me just to turn the head unit on. It only has one set of rca out-puts so multi-amp systems are a "no no".

I paid $250 and got them installed for free through circuit city. And they still have my stupid pieces that fit on either side of the unit to pull it out to get to the back. It looks great and has nice crisp sound. The sub/woofer and amp adapting features are pretty nice. The FIE selecting to put only the highs in teh front and lows in the back really makes it easy to crank the sound(even though my rear speakers are factory and have no bass to them whatsoever). It is nice to play a cd shut the vehicle off take the face plate off; come back start my truck up and pop the face back on the have the cd play from teh exact second i let it off. I also like the cd titling and the ease of changing teh EQ settings. But there are a lot of menus to go through and i did need to read some of the manual to figure some of the things out. Overall I love it!

Strength:

Great sound for the price. Strong in high, mid, and low. LOUD!

Weakness:

Not entirely intuitive. Took a while to figure out how to program simple things, like the clock

This review is actually for the DEH-P6000 which was recently replaced by the 5200. I picked it up open box at Circuit City for $190 and could not be happier. I auditioned several units from Sony, Pioneer, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood and others and Pioneer outdoes them all in sound quality (in my opinion). In my regular six speakers from the factory, I doubt if I'd ever need to add an amp. The 45 watts coming out of here are powerful. I LOVE the different EQ setting options. There is something for everyone, as well as a custom one if you can't quite get what you want. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that it might be a bit too strong on the high notes. A great value!

Strength:

One thing describes this head: features. I have never seen so many cool and useful features packed into one CD player. I love the new Pioneer look. The jag-dial makes it easy to use the volume plus I love the idea of hidding the features I never want to see or use (e.g. random, repeat).

Weakness:

NONE. Well, maybe the fact that its hard to see in the direct sun. But, which aftermarket head does not have that problem.

I paid $229 and had it installed for free with the Pioneer EQ-6500 ($199) Equalizer and I recently installed the CDX-P1250 12 CD Changer ($240) myself. What a great combo. The thing I love the most is the CD-Text feature. Makes life so easy. I would recommend this product to anyone who is into great sound and HAS to be able to playback CD-RW and CD-R (74 & 80) like me. Also, if you have smaller front speakers, you can use a special feature that allows you to push more highs in the front. Very very happy with it. You really get your money's worth, unlike Clarion which is only a name.

Similar Products Used:

Alpin. Clarion. Eclipse. Sony - NONE of these were able to play CD-RW. Alpin could, but it was acting funny. Clarion and Sony would not play at all. I tried my friends old Eclipse and it could not do it, but thats maybe because it is a little older. The Pioneer plays them and NEVER skips.
