this amp overheats like a POS car going up the hill in 120 degrees weather.and cant pust any woofer the amp cost too much per watt, this amp sucks, and cant push anything, i have 2 hx2 dvc 10's and this amp cant get any bass out of it...my door panel speakers produce the same amount of bass and i dont even have an amp hooked up to them...i paid like 350 bucks for this peice of crap...fosgate sucks and ill never buy anything from them again, theyre new amps suck, most companys get better as time goes by, but im not sure what the engineers of this product have been drinkin recently..its pityful Similar Products Used: it compares to that $200 kenwood 600 watt amp...u know the one that they sell at circuit city made for door panel speakers..yeah that one |

could be louder at lower volumes{had a clarion amp and it sounded louder at the lower volumes} I have an alpine 7863 for the brain of the system. Two memphis 2 way 4x6 in the front side doors.two infinity reference 6x9 3 ways powered buy a clarion 4 channel amp.My two rockford fosgate he2 12's hit hard as hell in my pontiac grand am se 2000, while being powered by 250x2 rockord amp.I have not heard any one who can compete with me except my friend with 8 12's. The sound quality and the spl is amazing.I literally can wake up the whole neigborhood if i wanted to. I almost broke my friends front window of his house when i was parked about 60 ft away. the whole house shakes and it really does sound like thunder when i drive by your house. Similar Products Used: clarion in my opinion has a little better sound quality at a more affordable price. |

The 500a2, 2000's model, it hits HARD, very nice amp, i am very happy with it so far, I agree with others that it heats up, but it has never quit on me yet. I am running (2) Boss 600 watt 12" 4ohm speakers, I was very supprised to hear how good the Boss's sound, highly recommended, great low and high bass. The amp does the trick on these bid reds.
Weakness:
It heats up more than it should, im afraid my carpet in my truck is gonna start on fire. Wouldn't recommend turing the gain up more than half way, like everybody else said, it does distort alot. I got a huge deal on this amp, i acutally bid on a RF 500a2 Punch, not a Punch Power, there were 100 in quantity, so i got the beast for $240, great amp, if i wouldn't of gotten this deal i was going to go with the 2000 Kicker Zr360, Looking to sell my amp and getting the Kicker, then planning on getting 2 Alpine 12" Type-S, they freakin pound. This is a great amp ( the rf 500a2 ) I wouldn't get this amp for the price though, if you get a good deal i would totally go for it. Similar Products Used: none, first system, i have heard many others though, mine sound fairly good compared to others. |

Just to let you guys who think you know so much, know, When you blow subs with your powerhouse amps, it doesn't necessarily mean the amp is all that and a bag o' chips. A sub blows from high clipping and distortion. It is possible to blow a sub that holds a thousand watts with just 100 watts. As far as Rockford goes. I will never buy any new rockford stuff again. I had an 1100a2 on 2 15 solobarics and it was loud but the amp broke down on me after 2 weeks. I have had a 1997 model 360.6 for 3 years and I think it is one of the best multi channel amps ever made. It is 30x6 and 120x3 I love it.
Weakness:
Don't buy New rockford stuff! You can buy a 360.6 for about 250 to 300 new right now. I would get one if you are looking at 5-6 channels applications. Similar Products Used: None |

In my opinion it's a very good looking amp but some folks just don't like it. Paid about $300 for 500W RMS, which is not a bad deal, and with 3 years warranty. It drives my Perfect 12.1 crazy.
Weakness:
The amp get hot really fast. This is actually the review for the 2000 Punch Series G500a2 amp. i got to post my review here since the forum don't have the review for the G500a2 yet and I have to post it before the end of this month for the free subscription of the magazine, Haha! The amp provides 500W RMS bridged (this is according to the manuals) and it pust my single Perfect 12.1 hard and produce tight, good bass. i would recommend it to you guys if you have a perfect 12.1 nad want to hit it hard. Similar Products Used: It's comparable to the Alpine V12 line of amp. |

1999 Rockford Fosgate Punch Power 800a4
Strength:
Wow...using it for subs...sure makes them bump my ass apart. Also good on the highs. Produces lifelike screaming highs with my polk dB's.
Weakness:
Well...it was a bit on the pricey side, and I've heard that these amps distort bigtime with the gain up. That's why I keep the gain down :) Wow. Well, from what I've read here, either you love Rockford or you hate them. There isn't a grey area here. Originally I was going to go with Infinity's Kappa amps, but they were gone before I had the money to spend on a good amp. So...I looked for the next best thing and went with a decent name. I visited the retailer and she assured me that this thing would not blow or overheat and it would kick my ass. I then visited my installer in town and he said that the new Fosgate models sucked. (after I bought it of course) Well...so far the amp has been good to me. Yeah, it gets hotter than hell in my trunk (the car is black) but when installed correctly, it doesnt overheat. At least I dont think it does. It hasnt cut out on me, and it hasnt harmed my speakers *yet* lol. Although, I do sugguest to keep that gain knob turned DOWN. Distortion city comes when the gain is turned up more than half way. I'm serious. This is an amp for highs. I plan on getting something a bit more serious (probably a JBL pro amp) for my subs and letting my polks feed off the fosgate. They seem to like the power :) I do recommend this amp...highs only though. Similar Products Used: USacoustics, PPI, Orion |

Strength:
Good power of the amp, 2 ohms mono stable and the Bass EQ remote is a very nice touch, can't forget the 24 db adjustable crossover.
Weakness:
I am not sure if the amp is really effective, it uses a lot of the car ressources. I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy this amp or a phoenix Gold Zx ti 400. I beleive that for the price the amp is amazing, it delivers good power and a very clean sound. It might not be as good a the phoenix Gold but if you look at the amount of money you will save Vs the actual difference in SQ .. the RF wins easely. The weak thing is that it's not underrated like the Phoenix gold is, so for competitor it might be a problem. Similar Products Used: The sound Quality is a lot better than the old Punch 60x2 serie, and they got rid of those awfull Cross over Card. |

I HAD HEARD THAT ROCKFORD FOSGATE WAS RECENTLY IN A PARTNERSHIP DEAL WITH SANYO ELECTRONICS...SANYO SUCKS. SANYO MAKES CLOCK RADIOS FOR WALGREENS! ROCKFORD USED TO BE A GOOD NAME....THANKS TO THE BEST BUY GIANTS, ROCKFORD NOW SUCKS. WORKMANSHIP HAS GONE STRAIGHT TO HELL. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Don't waste your time with Rockford...give em a few years to get back on track...if they ever do. Companies that sell out always end up sucking...those that stay true, such as MMATS and US Amps have always had unbelieveable reliability and build quality. Clean power is real power. Impressed with the Punch 500a2 amount of clean, raw power to run my 10" MTX 5000 subs, which, by the way, outperform my previous JL 12W1's. Punch 500a2 replaced my PPI Sedona 200ix amp, which was run at 4 ohms bridged 330 watts mono. This amp does run stronger as it gets hotter. Great amp.
Weakness:
Punch 500a2 does run quite hot into my 4 ohm load, but has yet to shutdown, which my Sedona 200ix did. Paid $400 plus tax one year ago. Highly recommend for running subs. Don't know about mids/highs. I have heard one high priced system using an 800a2 to run 4 each 6.5 MB quarts. Sounded awesome. Similar Products Used: Sedona 200ix; not the best PPI amp but cost more than than my Punch 500a2. |
