Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

Available in Regular cab, Double Cab and CrewMax styles, the Tundra also features three bed lengths, three engines, three wheelbases and a choice of 4X2 or 4X4 configurations.

The Tundra offers three engines and three cab sizes. Handling is relatively responsive, but the ride with the TRD package is stiff. The 5.7-liter V8 is very powerful. The tailgate is easy to raise and lower. A new 4.6-liter V8 replaced the old 4.7-liter for 2010.

Strength:

Decent Gas Good Quality VERY VERY smooth ride for a truck Nice bed size Easy parking

Weakness:

Gas (If you are coming from a car, be ready to pony it up in a truck). Camry like drive (Zzzzz). Dunlop std tires are slippery on wet roads (improve the tires=much better truck)

The toyota tundra is a very smooth pickup. It rides very smooth (almost camry-like) and is ok on gas. I have used it like a car and have not looked back. It however lacks the zest of lighter trucks or the powerful V8s of the American brands (but you also do not pay the GAS for that extra oomph). It is much smoother than a tacoma. Reliability has been great (It's a toyota!). The only thing I don't like is the rear seat (way too upright and not comfortable on long rides). The engine also needs another 30-40 horses. Stereo needs to be improved. Also since it is not as big as regular full size trucks- it's easier to park.

THE SEATS SUCK. REAR INTERIOR PASS. SPACE. DIG. CLOCK LOCATION. POOR REAR SEAT STORAGE CONFIGURATION. ALSO KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR EXHAUST MANIFOLD AT 48K THE TRUCK DEVELOP AN EXHAUST LEAK TRACED BACK TO A HOLE ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

PERFORMANCE WISE, VERY GOOD. THE REAR SEAT IS AT BEST JUST REAR SPACE. IT'S WAY TO SMALL FOR AN ADULT AND BECUASE OF THE SEAT CONFIGURATION (THE WAY THEY FLIP UP, LEAVING A SEMI FLAT FLOOR)IT'S DIFFICULT TO HAUL ITEMS. I'M 5'11" AND I'M COMFY IN THE REAR SEAT JUST LONG ENOUGH TO CLEAN THE WINDOW. THE FRT INTERIOR IS LAID OUT WELL, SIZE WISE. THE DIGITAL CLOCK IS TO LOW. YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD TO READ IT. TOYOTA SHOULD DO US AND THEM A FAVOR AND UPGRADE THE SEATS IN THE SR5 SERIES. I GIVE THE COMFORT LEVEL ABOUT A 3 OUT OF 10

As far as everything else about that truck, I could not have gotten a better one. I just want Toyota to make it right. Walters Toyota of Pikeville have went out of their way to keep me happy. I appreciate that.

Weakness:

The complete front end should be re-looked at and possibly re-designed.

Last week on the 8-6-03, I was driving home at 40mph. I heard a loud thump from under my truck. It left the road and struck a pole from the side. I think the Manufactor should make this right. Not the insurance co. Anyone experiencing that front vibration have it checked ASAP> My CV Joint came out 15` before it left the road. I put it in the back of the truck.

Strength:

Power, styling, fit and finish, overall quality. My previous truck had been in for warranty work 3 times by this mileage.

Weakness:

Raingutter/roof/door design is not good. I've been showered several times in the morning when I forget to drive a bit to blow the dew off before opening the window. Cab is a little too short, but there is plenty of head and frontseat room - it's mostly a back seat issue.

Love the truck overall. Daily driver during the week, and haul a boat most weekends (2500 lb. rig). The truck looks great drives well, and is comfortable. A few minor annoyances - clock position, raingutters (or lack of) spray water into the cab with the window down (even if not raining, but truck is wet), cab could use about 3 more inches. I agree with a previous reviewer about some of the reviews looking like non-owners. some of the things they complained about ewere exactly why I bought the truck, and would have been painfully obvious to anyone on a test drive. I have the offroad TRD suspension (2wd) and have no complaints about the performance. Tranny shifts intuitively. 19K miles & no brake problems so far. No problems of any kind.

Powerfull 4.7 V8, great ride, wonderful handleing, beautiful truck, great interior, great sound system, just an all around great truck. Beats Dodge, Ford, or GM hands down. Toyota has me for life if they keep building trucks like this.

Weakness:

As soon as I can find something I don't like about the truck I'll let you know.

Toyota has got to be the best truck on the road and the Tundra holds true to that. I love everything about this truck. I test drove ever other type of truck before I bought the Tundra and I happy with my choice. The 4.7 has got to the best V8 pound for pound on the market.

Strength:

Good looks, quiet, smooth, great handeling, power enough for most light/medium towing.

Weakness:

Brakes. We took advantage of Toyota free brake replacement. Story I got from local dealer is that they used too weak of a brake system, tends to warp, ours started to, talked to other Tundra owner who's front end started jumping around. $1200 new heavier duty system, no charge to us. For those who use trucks for real heavy duty work, I suppose Tundra might be a wuse, but for our level of use its perfect. Back seat is a bit cramped.

My wife & I love our Tundra. Quiet, comfortable, powerful enough for our needs, 15-17 mpg, we use it for her art shows, pulling a small trailer. Great sound system, lux leather interior, great blend between a truck and car. Smooth on the 4-wheel roads too. If I want my butt beat, will buy a Ford, Chevy or Dodge.

Strength:

Powerful Four Point Seven Liter engine with smooth, quiet response. Quiet interior, comfortable seats.

Weakness:

Backseat is suitable for two children but too small for adults on an extended trip.

In response to John Martin, you're comparing apples with pomegranites. Toyota Tundra's come with a V-8 option. The V-8 happens to be a 4.7 liter motor. The standard motor for a F-150 is the 4.6 liter which the Tundra will run circles around. Obviously, when you purchased the Tundra, you knew it came with a smaller V-8 than the 5.7 in your old F-150. Did you expect it to have more power? With the 5.7 L motor comes heavier suspension which SHOULD haul a heavier payload. The 5.7L motor option in your F-150 is a considerably larger motor and should out power a Tundra but I don't believe anyone is going to buy the story of better gas mileage. As an aside, Ford engineers used the 4.7L Tundra's V-8 engine as a benchmark when they designed the 5.4L V-8 for the next generation F-150. They spent $485 million on the tooling alone. Ford took a page from Toyota's playbook and declared war on noise, vibration and harshness. It's yet another indication that automakers are making pickups more car like because that's what the customers are asking for.

In response to James Williams, prior to purchasing my Tundra I drove a Ford F-150 extended cab, with the 5.7 L V-8 and the 4x4 off road package. It was a far superior truck. I drove 67,000 miles in 3 years. During this time I was the contruction manager for a new golf course development. The truck was driven 50/50 highway/road miles and off road miles. Many of the off road miles were in 4 high or 4 low. In all that time I replace the tires and had oil changes. My Ford had more power, payload and better MPG than my Tundra. I stand by my review of the Tundra not being a good truck, but a fine car.

High Rev Power! Car-like handling and great stereo/speakers. Great freeway driver. Good looking.

Weakness:

Horrible seats-no lumbar adjustment. Bad belt tensioner. Cheap Tires and window latches. Poor Gas mileage. Also-the front skidplate is plastic? Come on!

I really like my truck and have not had any significant problems at 50K mile. Good power from V8 and handles decent. Maybe too much power, I've had 5 speeding tickets since I've owned it-you just don't realize how fast you are going it's so smooth! Crap tires & front shocks too soft and bottom out easily. The rear window latches broke on both sides and the serpentine belt tensioner went bad but all was replaced under warranty.
