Strength:

Looks,Power

Weakness:

Price,VERY CHEAP SEATS could make better ones with toothpicks, interior moldings fall off,Rusts easy, heard about problems with Gaskets in engine , Oil filter loosens(That is what the Dealer tells me)Still leaking oil, only 45,000miles on it),Tire pressure problems due to rims,Bad service at toyota, etc.

The Tacoma is probably the best looking truck in its class. This is a good truck for two persons. Not a family vehicle as space is very limited. The truck performs well and rides the road,on or off, well.I think that that the designers at Toyota really did a great job with the astetics of the vehicle. The outside apperance is fantastic

Strength:

Standard features are more than any other car manufacturer. Has a unique appearance the separates the truck from other manufacturers.

Weakness:

Poor body assembly when it was manufactured. When it rains it would leak all from the seals of the truck. Making this truck weak in winter seasons

It''s a great looking truck with great features on the SR5 series. Smooth and comfortable and dependable engine.

Strength:

Weakness:

Although I have an extended warranty on this vehicle there seems to be a great deal of trouble and frustration when getting parts replaced which are covered under warranty.

This is my second new Toyota Truck and the fifth new Toyota owned by my family. I feel however the quality of the Tacoma Truck has dropped dramatically over earlier models in design and reliability. I’ve owned this vehicle less than one-year; unfortunately have had it in for warranty repair 7 times. For the price paid for new vehicles this I feel should never happen. Problems encountered would be the need to replace all grommets holding the dashboard in place (the first week I owned the truck). Trim and window molding needing replaced, rear seat covers coming apart and needing replaced, lose wires in the doors and dashboard, front shock leaking, and a front-end metallic noise in the wheel area.

Strength:

Reliable, good off road/ in snow, smooth engine/trans/transfer case. I have 3.4 with 5-speed. Looks like brakes will go 75K before needing replacement.

Weakness:

Absolutely tinfoil body and plastic bumpers. Hood flexes at hwy speed. Front "bumper" is a joke.

Expensive for what you get, but should be very reliable - 45K on it so far, only one tiny coolant leak (I can see it, when they replace it at 60K they can fix it.

Strength:

Horsepower, well planned interior.

Weakness:

Seating could be just a little more plush.

Solid performance. Great horsepower(190 hp, V6). Smooth comfortable ride. All controls easy to operate-well thought out. Great looking, a real head turner. I would recommend this truck to anyone who is considering a truck in this class. I would buy it again, no regrets.

Model Reviewed: 4X4 TRD XCAB Limited

Strength:

V6 engine is strong and smooth, very snappy when coupled to the 5 speed manual. Competent off-road, 4X4 system is user friendly. gauges well placed and all driver controls make sense, although the clock is mal-placed and the cruise "knob" takes some getting used to. Fender flares add alot to making the truck look more substantial and ground clearance is very ample. Optional Bilstein shocks & struts w/ TRD make the handling much more stable.

Weakness:

For the money, I think at least the seats should be better, and why is the drivers side power window switch lighted and not the passenger? A few more luxo features would add a lot, like outside temp and compass and a better sound system.

Overall, toyota does an excellent job w/ this little truck & toyota quality is shown throughout. Reliability is far and away better than it''s competition.

Strength:

Nother ever seems to go wrong with it.... Even with a little abuse.

Weakness:

At around 50,000 miles I''ve started to have a rattle on the dash... but it''s not that bad... It doesn''t bother me that much

This Truck is Awesome!! I have a 1995 that I bought in 1997. It had 19000 Miles on it. It now has 95000 and I still have the original brakes. I thought it might be time to get them replaced so I took it in and they told me they were still good. WOW!!! Just recently I had to get a new starter but that aint bad for 90000+ miles. That is the only repair I''ve had since I''ve had it.

Strength:

good power, this truck will not let u down.

Weakness:

not very comfortable, very bumpy, bad seats, if u have a bad back this truck is not good for u.

This truck is the best truck i have ever had. This truck has over 100.000 miles on it. I have never had any big problems,(just tires, starter, brakes etc.) all it needs is regular tune ups. I can not understand why these "TOM" rednecks talk bad about toyota trucks. They seem kind of racist towards japanese car makers. GET A LIFE REDNECKS!

Strength:

The V6!!! Gets average (read--not bad) mileage for the power, which is incredible...low insurance rates, high-sitting ride, looks great, A/C works fabulously, the CD/tape combo

Weakness:

This is a rough ridin'' vehicle. Dealers in Cali don''t let you take the vehicle too far, so we were not able to test drive on bumpy highway roads--which later translated directly to vibrations to my back. Seats are cheap, needs 3rd door option. Prerunner should come with mud flaps.

Overall, this has been one of my best automobile purchases...the truck sits high and looks like a 4x4 without the price or insurance gouging. Beautiful design, XCab has nice bench seat instead of a foldout 4-year-old''s seat. I wish Toyota would offer a 3rd door in the XCab, though, for convenience without having to buy the doublecab and sacrifice bed length. Interior is very well arranged but the seats are cheap and remind me of the old economy Tercels. They seem to have corrected the problem by 2001 though. The CD/tape stereo combination is a really neat idea. The air-condition blasts ice-cold and barely dents the V6 power. Does fine hauling a 9'' tall load of furniture, etc and the headlights actually light up the road. Toyota reliability can''t be beat...my dad had a truck with 200k + miles no problems
