Strength:

Front fascia styling is the best in the class (Tacoma's are UGGGGGLY!), Bed extender is pretty cool. Wish I would've waited until the long bed Crew Cab for 2002! Radio controls on the steering wheel are a big plus!

Weakness:

I blew my tweeters in about 5 months, but they were gonna get replaced anyways. No room behind the rear seat for a woofer box. Had to have a custom center console made with a single 10" driver. Sounds awesome. Tends to nosedive during hard braking. Blind spots over left shoulder.

Saw the initial commerical with the STP music blaring in the background, and fell in love. The test drive sold me instantly. Women are always complimenting my truck (definitely a plus!!!)

Strength:

Has four doors

Weakness:

Marginal power
Short box

I bought the Nissan when it was on the only 4-door compact on the road, and I desperately needed one right then. Despite its weaknesses I have been satisfied, if not thrilled, with the truck.

It has been absolutely trouble free and it got me through the worst snowstorm in 30 years with no problem. I used it to shuttle several people around during the snow. Still, I wish it had more room in the back seat, and a slightly longer box. The tailgate extender helps, but you can’t put it on if the item you are hauling is tall. Oh well, there are tie-downs that work well.

Power can only be described as adequate. I couldn’t imagine driving this thing without the manual transmission. Handling is better than my previous truck, but that could be due to Nissan’s selection of tires.

The interior comfort is, well, adequate, but would someone please tell the Japanese that the emergency brake does NOT belong under the dash please. I have a permanent dent in my right knee from 12 years of bashing it on the emergency brake, first in the Mazda and now in the Nissan.

In summary, the truck performs as I expected. It is slow off the line and the handling is satisfactory if not thrilling. It will haul the whole family and it will haul the stuff that I need to haul. It is quicker, quieter and rides better than the truck it replaced. Still, it is missing that “something” that my Mazda had. I need it more, but like it less than the Mazda.

Strength:

4 doors, the auto hubs are easy to use, and it rides like a breeze.

Weakness:

*shrug* any weaknesses are visibly aparant, and if you find them weaknesses, you should buy a different truck =)

I've had it for a week, bought slightly used. Drooled over these when they came out, and now that I have one -- I am ever-so-pleased. Rides smoother than any other mid-sized truck I and my rear have ever had the displeasure of riding in. It's powerful enough for city driving and some off-road (haven't taken it too far out, but I know it'll drag 4 passengers inside and 8 in the bed up a good sized hill in loose gravel, no worries). Handling is amazing for a truck. Stock stereo could really use some beefing up -- city life makes one somewhat deaf. It's uber-styling and with alot of new aftermarket parts available these days, I'm happy I didn't do something crazy, like buying an american truck.

Strength:

Good looks.

Weakness:

Bad mechanics and no dealer help.

The truck is good looking, functional interior, enough power for a 4 cyl. if you are not planing a lot of heavy hauling. The only problem I have is when loaded with about 400lbs., there is a shimmy in 1st., 2nd., and third gears at about 2800rpm. After having taken it back to the dealer twice, I was advised the shimmy could be removed either with or without a load. Not both. After contacting Nissan I was told the "technicians" are aware of the problem but are unable to resolve it at this time. Sorry. Anyone for LEMON-aid?

Strength:

very few

Weakness:

Everything mechanical. Engine went with less than 80,000 miles, transmission needed to be rebuilt 6 months later. Still have problems with both: clutch needs frequent adjustment, etc.. Air conditioning tends to 'jerk' every few minutes - told it would have to be replaced completely, at over $1000. No thanks, I'll roll down the windows

Overall, I've been incredibly disappointed with this truck. Had two Nissan King Cab 4x4's prior to this, with 130-140 thousand miles each and very few problems. This truck has been a nightmare; I keep wanting to scrape the gray paint to see if it's yellow underneath. The engine is way underpowered, the transmission is a constant problem, air conditioning doesn't work correctly, and the reliability is nearly zero. I stay close to home most of the time waiting for something else to break. Before this truck, I was a big Nissan fan, but after pouring thousands into this truck in the past two years, I'll never buy another Nissan again, nor would I recommend one to anyone else.

I love my Frounter Crew cab SE. Rides great. Great off Road. Nissan like always is the first car comapany to offer 4 doors on a comapact pick-up truck. Nissan's have always been dependable truck, cars and suv's. After amlost 15 years my pathfinder that had reset on my odometer still ran good.

Model Reviewed: KC 4x4 SE V6 M5

Strength:

Quality, value, style, performance (as in - being a truck, not being a racer)

Weakness:

Fuel Economy, jump seats

My Frontier 17+ MPG average after 4500+ miles. Loaded, it costs thousands less than a comparable Tacoma. Fit & Finish is excellent. This truck turns heads. The V6 and manual 5-speed perform well in city traffic, but this truck is not a stop-light racer. The torque / power curve comes on early, and marches up 3/4 of the way to redline. The truck is geared to be a truck. On the highway at speeds over 60mph, the truck feels like it wants a 6th gear.

The ride quality of the Frontier is far better than any other compact truck. The truck handles well on all road surfaces.

Interior space is adequate for two adults under 6ft. The King Cab provides plenty or interior "stuff" room. The rear jump seats are only good for small children and for short distances only.

Model Reviewed: XE KING CAB W/VTP

Strength:

Mileage, decent power for a 4 cyl., durability (timing CHAIN, not a belt), price and good looks

Weakness:

Not used to the emergency brake under the dash, a lever between the seats would be better.

I previously had a Chevy S-10 regular cab with a 4 cyl. and 5 sp. man. trans. With 2 kids, 6 and 9 yrs old, I needed a little more room so I got the king cab. Again I got a 4 cyl. and 5 spd., good mileage, 25 miles city regularly, and still decent power. No drag racing or towing. But with 2 adults, 2 kids and camping gear in the bed, the truck did fine on the highway, still had acceleration for hills and passing. The truck looked great, much better than the plain, boxy looking '90 S-10. I got many comments on the good looks of the vehicle. My favorite feature of the truck was its tight turning radius, I could get that thing in and out of all kinds of tight spots. Quality of the truck was great, for 51000 miles in 2 1/2 yrs., no major work was needed. The light in the digital clock went out at about 45000, and the engine belts began to squeal at 50000. Forgot about the light and had the belts changed, no big deal. I used the truck periodically in land surveying, taking the truck off road (nothing too severe) and through developing subdivisions, lots of loose dirt and rocks. Well, the kids are bigger, the king cab was getting cramped, so time for 4 doors. I was real happy with this truck, so I recently traded it in for a 2001 Xterra XE, same frame, engine and trans. So far I'm happy with the Xterra. Still decent mileage, about 21 in the city so far, and the power is O.K. Looks neat and is fun to drive, I put 150 miles on it the first evening I had it.
