Weakness:

Nothing, my truck has been fantastic

This truck has been outstanding. I have had one problem, a front hub bearing, and that was fixed under warranty at 42,000 miles. Any of the other small trucks would have been out of warranty and the repairs would have been out of my pocket. The Mazda is better looking and cheaper than the Ford, has a lot more content than the Toyota for the money, and it is a way better truck than the Nissan. I have over 90,000 miles on the truck and it is still tight as a drum, no rattles, squeaks, or mystery noises. One suggestion, a K&N Filter helps with gas mileage, I was getting 20 mpg on the highway and 18 in the city but with the new filter I get 20 city/22-23 highway. I testdrove every truck on the market when I bought the truck in 1994, it had the best interior, best motor, and the best looks. After six years, my trucks interior is still extremely comfortable, the paint has held up great, I can still carry 1600-1800 lbs in the bed with very little sag in the springs and I can still off road it with supreme confidence. I have gotten stuck once and I made it alot further than my friend in his Jeep Wrangler. I highly recommend the Mazda if you are considering a small truck. Toyota and Ford are not worth the price premium you have to pay.

Similar Products Used:

Toyota Tacoma - extremely overpriced for what you get.
Nissan - Not nearly as nice for your money as the Mazda.
Ford Ranger - Ford dealers do not compare for price and service to Mazda and the warranty is 14k miles less.

Where do i start .. This truck has been the best buy ive made in a few years. No problems every ( knock on wood).
Ive been in deep mud and it got me out no probs. Drives nice and firm and the gas mileage is pretty good for a 4 litre.

Weakness:

Hmm.. Ill say Nuttin

Well basicly ive either been really lucky or this is one hell of a truck . Ive pulled most of my buddies out from muds holes there trucks never made it through. My freinds New Dodge Dakota 4x4 rt had a motor problem just when he treid to get through the mud hole ..poor guy stuck in crap to the bottom of his doors. I had to go in with my Mazda (ford) pass him then backup to him then hook him up and pull him out no problems for me . Tuned out his ignition had gone out and was fixed 2 days later buy Dodge. Well thats him and his problems . I have no problems and my truck rules BOTTOM LINE

Strength:

Reliable engine and drivetrain. Economical. Cheap resale value for what you get. Looks good. Low gearing is good for towing and peeling out and stuff.

Weakness:

Weak engine. Not very many aftermarket parts.

I paid $1500.00 for it at a dealer as is. Leaks oil but not bad. Other than the oil leak, all is mechanically tight. I bash it and thrash it almost daily and it keeps going. I go mudding and offroading in it on the weekends. I recomend this truck to anybody that wants to get where they want reliably and cheaply, if you don't like the low gears and underpowered engine.

Strength:

There are no strengths for the mazda. I had to replace the motor with a chevy 4.3 for enough power because mazda just can't suply the power.

Weakness:

The stock motor and five speed has to low of a gear ratio.

I paid too much for my POS (4500). Just trust me and buy another truck don't even look at a Mazda.

Similar Products Used:

If I knew that the truck didn't have any power I would have just bought a S-10 or Sonoma.

Strength:

very cheap and came with many features including a cd pleayer as well as no miles on it. was able to find the regular cab with a v6 as well as the se model and a security system. have put over 14000 miles on in 8 months and has never let me down. there was no hassle in buying it either as it was purchased under a 4500 dollar off sticker price deal.

Weakness:

poor gas mileage and has kinda sluggish handling compared to my ford escort. V6 seems a bit underpowered in liew of the poor gas mileage. i wish that mazda/ford had made a larger gas tank for this vehicle. i dislike having to run to the gas station all the time because of my small 16 gallon gas tank. would have been better with a 25 gallon tank. have also experienced rare occasions in which the abs flake out on me.

i have had good experiences with this vehicle and feel very fortunate to have found a regular cab truck with a V6 within the 10000 dollar range. it is very reliable and expect to get over 200000 miles easy out of it. one thing i would suggest is to try to run this truck on 89 octane fuel or higher for the smoothest idle and best engine performance. i personally prefer chevron fuel. This truck has given me the most bang for the least buck so far. Thank you very much for a job well done on my truck Mazda.

toyota tacoma- way too overpriced for what you dont get and not built high enough off the ground like a real truck. feels too much like a toyota corolla with a less interior space and a bed.

ford ranger- same thing as the mazda only more expensive and may have a hard time finding a v6 in a regular cab

Model Reviewed: Mazda B2600i, , 4wd extracab

Strength:

The 4 wheel drive system is MUCH more reliable than later Mazda models starting with 1994, but it is less conveniant to use. The 1994 and newer models are Ford Rangers which have a bad history of expensive repairs on the electric motor driven 4wd hub system. I have 150,000 Km on this truck and will probably drive it until killer rust does it in.Maintenance costs have been low so far, the biggest repair being a $300 repair to the heater system. The 5 speed manual is now getting tired , and synchro into 1st gear is going, so not bad for the distance driven. The seating position and windshield height make it more comfortable for me than the other small trucks.. I'm tall from the waist up.

Weakness:

Underpowered. The 2.6 litre engine does not have enough power for medium loads out on the highway.Low speed torque though is good.Gas mileage is not that wonderful for such a small motor- about 22 mpg Canadian gallon, 18 mpg American gallon.

Recommended, if you can find one with low miles and no rust.

Similar Products Used:

Compared to a Mazda B4000 or Ford Ranger 4L, it is slower, but cheaper to maintain. The back seats in the King cab have more room than other small trucks.

Model Reviewed: B2500

Strength:

affordable price, tough looking, easy highway rides, good gas mileage

Weakness:

the 4-cylinder engine could be more powerful

The Mazda B-series is basically the same as the Ford Ranger. I'm leasing the base model B2500 (manual transmission) at $99 a month with $2750 down for 3 years (through Mazda Credit Corp). I drive this truck almost everyday, and do not have complaints (currently less than 7,000 miles). This is a decent truck that can haul light-duty things in the back. The seating position (upright) is more comfortable than most other trucks in its class. Taller drivers will apprciate this.

The Toyota Tacoma has a more powerful engine with better acceleration, bigger bed, can hold heavier load, but much higher in price. The Nissan Frontier looks good, but feels like a lesser truck than the Mazda; its manual transmission requires more attention. The base Chevy S-10 looks cheap, and the truck bed is too small.

I'm happy with this truck for the deal that I have. Believe it or not, I drive this truck more than my Mercedes!

Strength:

Good summer gas mileage on 3.0L (25+ hwy)- Reliable - OK power when unloaded

Weakness:

Poor winter gas mileage (18 hwy) - Not much pulling power

I paid $7700 2 years ago (4 year old truck at the time) with only 25K miles. 3.0L and 5-speed provide a reliable truck, with pretty good power for a small motor. Power dies off fast with a loaded bed or trailer. I found it to be very good off-road and in deep snow for a 2wd light truck.
2 years and 50,000 miles of rough driving later, no repairs at all other than normal wear (brakes, thermostat and the like).

Similar Products Used:

Dodge Dakota - Dakota has a ton more torque for pulling, more comfortable ride (but a lot more money). Mazda has better acceleration
