Strength:

Looks. The truck is beautiful from the exterior and interior but looks can't replace the performance.

Weakness:

Where can I start... problems are with the rattling on the front end, the steerling colum feel like it is bouncing everywhere, the cab sounds like a jet is flying by, the doors constantly squeak, the seal is coming off the doors and the security light is going CRAZY!!! Towing and using the 4WD are embarrasing. GMC should be ashamed of themselves for calling this a truck and claming that it is the top truck. I've owned a Ford before and the only reason I switched to GMC was because of the cab. I think the FORD is the best truck. I can't wait to get rid of the truck. I just feel bad for allowing someone else to buy it and not know about the poor quality of the truck. I think it's time for all 1999 GMC Sierra owners to get together and sue GMC for all the headaches these trucks are giving their owners!!! I too feel that the quality of this truck is related to the fact that they were made during the strike!!! If anyone is considering purchasing a truck, a REAL truck -- GO WITH FORD!!!!

Very disatified with truck. Did not meet up to expectations. This is the worse truck ever made. Would not recommend this vehicle to ANYONE!!

It doesn't!!! I don't think anyone makes a vehicle that could be worse than this.

Strength:

Strong engine, good mileage, great looks and style

Weakness:

I have had a problem with the front spring seats that were replaced by the dealer without any problem. The front still creeks when pulling in and out
of parking spaces. Now the ride is lobing onthe right front tire. the back seat has rattled since day 1. the truck is due to go in for service this week we shall see.
My dealer has been great! they have given me a rental car for over night warr. service and seem eager to please. Now I hope they can fix the problem befor ethe warr. expires.

Great looks overall, very roomy, could be a little more comfortable for the longer ride. General tires are starting to give a problem with 32000 mi.. mileage is 17.5 in the city with a 4.8, tows a 18ft. bass boat without much problem. The front end springs seem weak, when a large bump is hit it likes to wobble a bit.

Haven't found any yet, Fingers crossed.

I am very impressed with my new truck. I didn't really like the price but nowadays what can you expect?

The motor has a lot of power and that is where it ends.

Weakness:

The power seats was the first thing to go, then leaking rear window, steering column rattles, know the ABS went out 400 miles out of warranty 2000 dollars. When accelerating the dive shaft clanks.

Very Disappointed in this truck. I have had problems with this vehicle since the day i bought the truck.

Strength:

This truck was very excellent at keeping the service department busy.

Weakness:

Bumper rusty, tranny going, front end, shocks, brakes, 3rd door, ahh what the heck, the whole truck.

Gee, let me think. When it first came out, wouldn't buy anything else. I think we know how the view changed. This truck, I believe was probably made on a Saturday, after everyone went out on friday and got a hangover.
Having always been a 'GM person', I'm sorry to say, never again will I buy such junk.

Strength:

I love the look of this truck, the parts for it are cheap, the truck runs better than alot of the newer trucks out there. Engine is tough as nails

Weakness:

Rust at the cab corners and wheel wells can accumulate over time and spread what seems to be really quick

I give the 1989 GMC Sierra a 5 out of 5. The truck is amazing, I run a 1992 V6 Vortec engine in it so I get great gas mileage, it looks great and is easy to work on because the parts come cheaper. The only downside is it can rust pretty bad at the cab corners and wheel wells, but because the parts come at a good price, you can get the problem fixed without putting a big dent in your wallet. It runs great and smoothly and you can put it to work.

this is great truck all the way around no problems until 3/year 36000 mile ran out. at 38000 miles tranny slips during upshifting and at the top of a gear (about 2500 or more rpms) dealer will not fix the tranny unless i pay. from the discussions i have read i know of at least 10 individuals have had identical problems with 1999 transmissions. emial me with any similar problems.

Model Reviewed: GMC Sierra SLE (2 Wheel Drive, Regular Cab)

Strength:

The best qualities would have to be it's performance and durability. I enjoy driving fast and going off-roading and I have done both of these in my GMC. It still runs strong even though it's been to hell and back. I haven't had to replace anything on the engine except the battery. It's a great everyday driver and I will never own another brand except a GMC.

Weakness:

The only thing I have to complain about is the gas milage. I get around 10-12 miles per gallon. Most of that is because I drive fast and it sucks down my gas. It doesn't really bother me because I save so much on not having to repair my truck every other week like a Ford or a Dodge. Other than that, no weaknesses.

I bought this truck 2 years ago with 131,000 miles on it. It now has almost 160,000 miles on it and it still runs like the day I bought it. I paid a total of $7500 for it and I would say I got a great deal. It's powerful, fast, in great shape, and runs great.

I've owned a 1991 Ford F-150 and a 1996 Dodge Ram. Sold the Ford to get the Ram cause the Ford was a pain. Sold the Ram cause it was a pain also and went cheaper and got a GMC. I will take a GMC over those other trucks anyday of the week.

Strength:

Strong engine and trans. Easy as pie to work on at home. Just like a typical older Chevy, just sit inside the engine compartment and work away. Everything is easily accessable, plus parts are cheap !!!!

Weakness:

The throw out bearing started making noise, but had it changed with the clutch. How the hell is it sooo heavy? GVWR is almost 5800 lbs!!! it's just a half ton !!!!

I bought my truck with 127,706 km on it. The first owner beat the crap out of the engine, it was running rough and sluggish. Well, I love a challenge
I had the timing redone(it was way off) changed the plugs wires and so forth, and added additives to clean the combustion chamber. My younger brother says that I am something else, I now have just over 195 000 km and he says that it runs better today that the day I bought it. I agree with him, I never had to fix anything other than basic maintainance. I always let her warm up, and change the oil on time. It is two wheel drive reg cab with the Vortec V6 and a heavy duty 5-speed. By far the most reliable, and I have owned a ford and dodge. This is my third Chev, but not my last !!!

CHEVY trucks are the best !!! When compared to the competition, beats them hands down, better power and gas mileage comparably... For ex... Fords triton 5.4 vs Chevys 5.3... Which has more power and better gas mileage???
