RANGER FX4
Strength:
Engine, style, interior and functionality.
Weakness:
One weakness: head room could be better (Im 6'5) I traded a 2002 Ranger XLT 2WD for this 2003 Ranger FX4 and love it! My 2002 was a great truck, no problems, but I got a really good price on the new one and could'nt resist. I love the 4.0 engine, very fast and mileage seems about the same as the 2002 3.0 liter. Very off-road capable, one of the best in it's class. Similar Products Used: 2002 Ranger XLT, 1996 GMC Seirra Z71 |

XLT
Strength:
Good gas mileage, comfy inside, nice interior.
Weakness:
If motor mounts are weak and you get into an accident, not a very good chance of surviving. That's how the owner of this very truck passed. Cab hinges are weak if you are used to hauling. Brakes and ball joints. Heating and cooling installments. My friend and I drove in this truck since the first time I had met him. It never let us down. It runs good and perfect for off-road fun, hauling stuff, and taking you places without breaking down. People who want a show-off vehicle should not buy this truck. I think this truck was made especially for hauling things. That's what trucks were made for. Similar Products Used: Ford F-150 |

Ford Ranger XLT
Strength:
Good looking truck, nice interior (much roomier than the newer Ranger models), good gas mileage approx. 25 mpg, takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'
Weakness:
Air Condotioning died about 5 years ago. Heating system is very poor, even after thermostat (3 times) and heater motor were replaced. Rear wheel drive is AWFUL in snow. I've been stuck more times than I care to remember. Absolutley needs good wonter tires and to be weighed down in winter. Alternator and ball joint problems. Ford Ranger XLT, Extended Cab, 2.9 V6, 5 Speed I purchased my 1990 Ranger in 1994 with 102,000 kms already on it as it was a lumber yard run-about vehicle. I am now about 1,500 kms shy of hitting 300,000 kms. This truck has been a super-trooper; surviving -30 degree Manitoba winters, several Western Canada treks through the Rockies, a 6 month stint as a courier delivery truck, lots of city driving, and even more gravel back-roading. After 10 years, I am still happy with my purchase, although I think she may be ready to retire soon. If you are looking for an excellent small truck, I would highly recommend a Ranger. I definately got my money's worth out of mine. Some problems with heating/cooling systems, alternator and ball joints though. Regular routine maintainance a must to keep it in good working condition. |

Ranger XLT FX4
Strength:
Powerful. Great Look. Interior. The new colored tach and gauges. Comforable seats. Good stock sound system. Great traction.
Weakness:
GAS mileage. No head clearence. Not much else! I love the power that comes out of the 4.0 SOHC. I went through all the motors that Ford puts on the rager, and by far this is the best motor. Could have a little more power in the mid-range. The governor, that tops the ranger out at 90, is something I don't like that Ford put on there. Fantastic body curves. I love the torsion bars. Smooth ride even for a FWD. I hated the coil spring front end on my last 2wd. I love the four door option. My last Ext. cab was very difficult with entry. I don't care for the gas mileage though. 15-18, seems a little low to me. I drive a 2003 chevy 2500HD at work and it gets better gas mileage. All-in-all, Best truck I ever owned. I plan to keep it for a while. I will love to try the off-road capibilites that it suppose to have. Has anyone had luck off-roading with this great truck? The best Truck in its class. Ford Ranger XLT
Strength:
Low purchase price, rugged and reliable, quiet, smooth ride and a car-like, luxurious feel inside.
Weakness:
I never found any. Purchased new in October of '93. This is definitely the best small truck made. PERIOD. Ride is much smoother than Toyota or Nissan, and the interior is much more plush and luxurious. The 4 cylinder has adequate power (I have towed a friend's conked-out British car with it) and the gas mileage is very good (22 to 29 mpg). In 70,000 miles I encountered not one single problem. Everything about the Ranger is quality. Similar Products Used: Dodge Dakota (also a very good truck, just not quite the quality level of Ford) |

Ranger
Strength:
-Horse power and towing capacity -The truck is built like a tank -Comperable gas milage
Weakness:
-Hard-to-get-to oil pan and oil filter -Suspension is impossible to up-grade (install a riser kit on, etc.) -No room for a sterio installation THIS TRUCK IS GREAT!!!! I bought it from my uncle who babied it for its life. the truck has been in three accidents and the only thing that damaged the truck was a small dent in the right quarter panel. I have had the truck for a little over a year now. the only thing that I had to repair was a brake line. It has 200,000 miles on the original 4 cylinder engine and it still runs like new. Over the entire life of the vehicle, the gas tank has been replaced, and the transmission was rebuilt, but what do you want from an old truck?. other than that, it is like new. My next truck will surely be a Ranger! Similar Products Used: -Snow Tires -CD player -Tinted windows |

Ranger Edge SuperCab
Strength:
- Looks! - Engine power - Manual windows / locks. - Functional interior. - Stock door / cab speakers will please any audiophile with an aftermarket CD player, or just with the stock one. Especially with my Pioneer CD player with a 12" Kicker SoloBaric L7 :) - Very little drivetrain slack. - Syncronizes gears perfectly. - Quiet engine, compared to my '86 F150 with a Flowmastered 5.0L
Weakness:
- Turning radius is large. - V8 power comes with V8 milage. - Could use some more useless interior frills. About a 2 years ago, I posted a rave review on a 2000 Ranger XL, and I knew I'd be back here to post another, knowing I'd get another Ranger! Regardless, I've had my eye on a Ranger Edge ever since I first saw them a few years ago. But after buying one, I've no regrets of doing so. This truck is awesome, just as I knew it'd be. The Rangers in general are just fantastic trucks. My model has the 4.0L V6 engine (feels like smallblock V8 power) paired with the oh-so rare manual transmission (very hard to find a manual 4.0L Ranger w/ Ext. Cab now). Also features the nicer wheels & tires, and the fender flares. 2WD and vinyl floors (something I wanted anyway) and the 6 CD in-dash player. With all these things combined, this truck is very nice. Get alot of looks in it too! Exterior is Jet Black, with the air dam and foglights. To sum this up, this is a great truck, that runs / shifts great and I think will be another faithful Ford servant. Also, anyone reading this in the Southern Ohio area, Kerry Ford is a great dealer, and would recommmend buying from them. Their truck selection is HUGE. Ranger XLT 4D Off Road
Strength:
It runs well enough to get me to the dealership to trade it in
Weakness:
name it, it's a FORD Runs like a FORD, and soon will be Found On the Road Dead if I don't get rid of it. When I first bought it, it had a slight spark knock and a light clunk in the drive shaft. After taking it back to the dealer, nothing was fixed and now after 10 months of owning it, it's falling apart! Now the spark knock is horrible and the Ford dealer says it's a piston hitting the cylinder wall?! - safe and reliable, huh? And not only does the engine sound like it's going to die, the driveshaft bindes in the transfer case and I get some great noises from that, the rear end slips, the auto transmission doesn't shift right (lunges into second gear), I have a wheel bearing that's ready to fall off, I had to replace sensors because they were too corroded to work, the tie rod ends are going, the suspension squeeks, and the best part - FORD knows they make junk! The owners' manual states that a slight spark knock is normal, but if it get louder and worsens to take it to have it serviced - that tells you that Ford expects their cars to be crap and break down. Fords Plans Plan A - Build crap Plan B - Make our customers bend over and take it up the tail pipe fixing our crap Plan C - Make our customers squeal while bending over by offering nothing for a trade in Plan D - Offer rediculous incentives to make our customers "want" our crap Plan E - Buy every other car manufacturer and put our crap in their cars so all cars on the road are crap |
