Weakness:

its a little bumpy and the gas milage sucks but its better than my 73 and my 2000 4x4

i have destroyed this truck and put it back together two times and all in all it has been a good little truck for what i have put it through it has hit poles a dog, a deer, a mailbox, and the road and after rolling 4 times it started right back up and probably could have drove home but i didnt want to drive with the top down or half way down put it still runs and drives and after i put it all back together even looks brand new i could not find a better truck it had 12000 miles on it when i totled it and now it has almost 80,000 original miles the safety rating is low but mainly because of its easy rollover capability but i can tell you from exp. ford puts more time into the safety standerds than most car dealers the rangers problem with rollovers is not that bad for the wight, size, and the wheelbase of the truck i have seen a lot of wreaks but i think my truck heldup pretty good for what it went through

Strength:

Looks great, has lots of power, and superior in off-road conditions. Interior is comfortable for two. Lots of space for a small pickup.

Weakness:

Gas mileage. Truck is a guzzler. I have a small Honda Civic to commute to work, saves me a lot of money. However, I hate small cars, so all week I'm praying for the weekend to come so I can drive my truck!

I bought this truck new 2 years ago, several months after the heart-breaking experience of selling off my old reliable '89 Bronco. I shopped around, testing out several other Trucks including a Ranger with the 3.0 V6, a Dodge Dakota and a Toyota Tacoma. Ford gave me a great deal on the 4.0L I finally ended up buying. I'm glad I stuck with an American truck as well as a FORD truck. The 4.0L has a lot of power and handles all terrains very well. The 4X4 is fantastic.....better than the Bronco was. I've been in snow, dirt and sand, and this sucker conquers them all. My friend and I drove through some deep sandy beaches once and I drove right through one particularly deep spot with no problem. I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw him having trouble getting through the same spot in his Dakota! All in all, I'm happy with the truck and will buy one again in the future.

Looks. It sits high and looks like a 4x4 even though it isn't. Very sporty. Acceleration. I thought I'd miss the spunk that my hatchback had. ...but I don't. Reliable. I've had it for 1 year and have put 17,000 kms on it. No complaints so far.

Weakness:

-No traction in the rain or snow. I do miss my hatchback for that. -Very bouncy ride. -Small jump seats in the back -Paint has some flaws -Tonneau Cover leaks -Dealership is a nightmare Poor salesmanship and service from Ford Canada. Particularly Metro Motors in Coquitlam.

I purchased this truck because I'd always wanted a truck and my car was dying. Ultimately I would have loved a 4x4 Toyota Tacoma. However, Ford was much cheaper, had great money back incentives and 0% financing. So being on a tight budget I went with a Ford 2 wheel drive 4.0 L V6 automatic transmission. The dealer was a nightmare to work with. After I signed the papers I discovered the tailgate had a dent in it and the mileage was already at 300 km. It also didn't have some of the things we'd agreed on like rear slider window and bedliner. After a month or so I noticed two other issues. A mudflap on the right side had been torn off... and I know I didn't cause that as I'd driven it quite carefully and hadn't taken it off road yet. The rear bumper had a price tag underneath and the paint job underneath looked a little suspect. I believe this truck was in an accident. Anyway the dealer would do nothing for me and neither would ford. I've stopped going to that dealership. I also got the hard folding tonneau cover. While it is conveninent, it certainly isn't waterproof. I complained to ford and they basically said no one else has had any problems. However, the agreed to replace it. Guess what? The replacement leaks too. Definitely a flawed design. I love driving a truck though. I'll never go back to a car. However, my next truck will probably be a Toyota.

Looks, at the time. Good power. ride for a small 4x4 was good.

Weakness:

Really bad quality control, I'd had 2 rangers 2 explorers and an F150 prior, with very little trouble. Bad dealer followup.

Traded in a perfectly good 98 F150 which gave me no trouble. Had problems from day one with this ranger. Lower radiator hose fell off second day. Frontend (4x4) leaked after 3 weeks. Took 6 trips to local dealer (Team Ford Sioux City) a rental car and lots of hassel with the purchasing dealer (100 miles away). The Sioux Falls dealer turned their back on me and the problems with this truck. Traded it off on a Jap. After 8 new Fords, it was my last.

Has pleanty of power for the 4.0 engine, I was surprised.

Weakness:

Everything but the power, the bed is far to small to do anything buy haul groceries. The Ford warranty is the worst I've ever seen. Cheap quality.... VERY CHEAP. No room in the extended cab, why they put seats back there I don't know.

I went from a 99 dodge 1/2 ton to a 03 Dodge 1 ton turbo diesel quad cab Laramie, then to an 02 Ranger because I was buying a house and didn't want the $630 payment for the Laramie. Well in short, I hate the truck, it's built very very cheap like all fords, the 4-low is a trick to get it into, the warranty is the worst I've ever seen, they don't cover anything you'd bet your life on that they would. I wouldn't recommend a ford to anybody and the gas milage is worse than my 1/2 Dodge with 35" tires on it with the 5.2 Magnum.

perfect size for light hauling great look reliable cost

Weakness:

it is a new ford product Trans

Love the truck but this is more a warning to others than a review. Three years ago this truck began experiencing lagging, and slight shifting issues, heavy up and down shifting was my complaint to ford at this time. And a every so often a momentary grinding from either the rear end or trans. I then and up to a few weeks ago was told it was a yolk issue and that even at this early age was not uncommon for this truck to require yolk repacking every time the oil was changed. After its last servicing and yet another 80 bucks for a supposed yolk issue the grinding and heavy downshifting got alot worse. On taking it in to the local dealer I was informed it was the trans valve body needing replacement. At a cost to me now of 1500 dollars I find it disgusting that ford for years did nothing to solve this issue till it was too late and on my coin! Warning to all firt sign of any problems with the rangers auto trans get it fixed dont let them give you the " We cannont figure out what the problem is" carp!

The first thing that comes to my head when asked to describe the Ranger's Streangths is it's awesome ability to get up and go this suckes got power to spare getting on the freeway of messing oround on a dirt road the 4 leiter v6 is kick ass all the way. It's other streangths are a roomy interior with an extended cab and 4 doors is a plus i can haul like thier is no tomorrow and it came with the tonnau cover that folds in the middle and allows acess to half the bed at a time as opposed to the whole thing that thing is awesome and easy to take off and put back on plus all my friends witht the other tonnau covers are jealous. the ride is smooth and the price wasn't to bad at 16000 with a the warranty it's run great so far haven't had a single problem in 37 thousand miles i KNOW i can depend on my Truck.

Weakness:

One word GAS!

Drove it. Loved it. Brought it home with me. i Love my truck with the exception of gas this Ranger is perfect. it looks great is not a huge look at me i have a small one i need a big truck it just gets the job done and allows room for playing and racing on the freeway.(that damn gov)if you want a truck you can depend on to get the job done but also look good and fit inside a parking space The Ranger is it. I got slammed in the rear end by a galent or whatever thoose things are and the galent was totaled pushed the bummper into the radiator into the engine and so on i got out looed at my trucks rear end to see the damage and nothing was their my bummper absorbed the entire impact This Truck is what they mean when they say BUILT FORD TOUGH.

TERRIBLE HEAD CLEARANCE GETTING IN NOT ENOUGH ROOM INSIDE.(WILL BE THE LAST SMALL TRUCK FOR ME). I AM A BIG TRUCK MAN. I LIKE THE ROOM THAT THE FULL SIZE TRUCKS OFFER

NICE LOOKING TRUCK. THE 4.0 LITER HAS PLENTY OF POWER BUT, COULD BE BETTER ON GAS. 15 CITY, 18 HIGHWAY. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WORKS VERY WELL. I LIKE HOW THE TRANSFER CASE DISENGAGES. NO STOPPING AND BACKING UP TO DISENGAGE. THE TRUCK DRIVES AND HANDLES VERY WELL. THE INSIDE ISN'T AS BIG AS IT LOOKS FORM THE OUTSIDE. THE WORST COMPLAINT I HAVE IS LEG ROOM AND HEAD ROOM GETTING IN AND OUT. I HAVE HIT MY HEAD AND KNEES SEVERAL TIMES GETTING IN. MY WIFE HAS HIT HER HEAD MANY TIMES AND HATES THE TRUCK BECAUSE OF THAT. IT IS THE FIRST SMALL TRUCK I HAVE OWNED. I TRADED A F-150 FOR THIS TRUCK.

Strength:

Reasonably Priced, Decent fuel economy, Good fit and finish, Dependable so far.

Weakness:

Dated styling "YAWN" Choppy ride Limited hauling capabilities

I bought this truck because my die hard F-150 was getting really worn out and Ford had some great rebates and 0% financing on Rangers.I primarily use this vehicle to commute to and from work each day. My Ranger is equipped with the 3.0 V6 engine and an automatic overdrive transmission. I get between 21.5 and 23.5 MPG commuting with most of that being highway miles. I think this fuel economy is respectable. The 3.0 V6 works fine for me but if you tow a trailer or do a lot of heavy hauling you would probably like the optional 4.0 V6 better. The fit, finish, and overall build quality is much better than I expected for a vehicle in this price range. The 60/40 seats are very comfortable and all of the guages and controls are user freindly. Heat and AC work very well. The cd stereo is excellent. The styling of these trucks is a little dull and dated. These trucks ride a little rough too, especially on uneven pavement at highway speeds. The best thing so far is no trips back to the dealer for repairs. I looked at full size and compact, Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge, and even some imports. I've had pretty good luck with Fords in the past and the Ranger seemed like the best truck for the money. I'm pretty satisfied with my Ranger so far.

Strength:

Comfortable, civilized ride. Drives like a big car instead of a truck. Quite enough power to pass slowpokes. Easy to park, good turn radius. Decent factory sound system. Controls are easy to reach. The extra cab room holds a lot of junk.

Weakness:

The heater is a blast furnace! NO traction whatsoever on wet pavement, never mind the snow from this morning. The airflow from a partly open window really messes up my hair. Fat adults will never fit through to get into the jump seats.

I love this thing! First of all, great deal new as a loss leader. I needed something practical, as the other car is a Cobra. I was really sold on it's first camping trip. We had always had to take two vehicles (even when we had an SUV!) but we fit everything including two teenagers and had room to spare. I'll never go back to a car, ever.
