pooor gas milage, should have bought diesel

I have put 27,000 mile on my f250 with V-10 engine. Have had 3 recalls and all were fixed. I have had a problem since bought that sometimes when i start the truck it cuts off. Problem will remain for about 10 miles. Always cuts off when goes to idle. Dealer has not been able to fix this problem. Very agrevating problem. Gas milage is terrible!!
It is very worthwhile to buy a diesel in this type turck. Have a 2000 diesel on order.
The sticker price was $32,000. I paid $27,500

Strength:

I have found the F250 with the Powerstroke engine outstanding when towing my Nautique (3600 lbs trailered) Mileage is in the 16-18 mpg range when towing, and it pulls without effort uphill.

Weakness:

Cup holder will drop cups during right/left turns, coin holder is fragile.

Despite the high initial cost of the optional engine, the long term milege makes up the difference quickly. Towing is a breeze, and fuel costs for #2 Diesel is currently lower than for mid grade gasoline.

Engine noise inside the cab is not overly noticable, however outside noise is much louder than a regular gasoline engine. With no plugs/wires etc, maitanence costs have been lower, and reliabibity has been 100% over the 18,000 miles I currently have on the vehicle.

Strength:

Size, Handling, Very comfortable interior, Great power from the smallest engine (5.4L).

Weakness:

Size- Cant park the damn thing
There are no beer holders in the center console box like the F-150 has. Whats up with that.
Back seat could be a litter roomier.

This truck was a special order. I had to wait over 2 months but it was well worth it. This truck is big,(Super Cab Long Bed). It is a very solid and stiff ride, but in a good way. The suspension is smoother than expected (but obviously not as smooth the the F-150). The 5.4L V-8 does a spectacular job. I thought I screwed up by not ordering the V-10, but after driving the V-8 I am extremely happy with my decision. The interior is big and very comfortable. The premium sound stereo is great for being stock on a truck. I also included captains chairs. These cost pennies more than the stock bench seat and are just better all around. I recomend this truck to anyone who needs something a little more than an F-150, Silverado, Tundra etc.
My nicely equiped XLT Supercab Longbed came to only $24,400. This is an awful lot of truck for this kind of money.

Strength:

powerstroke diesel good millage no problems as yet 25.000 miles. Good starting in cold weather. Very good ride.

Weakness:

Ball Joints were replaced @ 10000 miles. Front end noise from springs.
Loading Camper nearro tale gate access, also have to build up camper to go over cab.

I like the 2000 superduty much better ride, transmison, auto, room in cab.
User freindly access fuses,mounting accessories.
I rate Fords superduty well over any other in its class. Because of are cool weather for eight months of the year. Dodge diesel just dont heat up and at -50 you want some cab heat. And Chevy I'am waiting on there new diesel. But if it preforms like there other so called diesel it won't go far here in the far north.

weak A/C,,,Gas terrible,,,lifts are big$$$ Kills barkes,,kills tires fast

Dealing with Ford salespeople sucks!! They should be making pretzles somewhere. After the ordeal of buying this PIG ,I was plagued with noises, missing small parts and more crappy service. I would highly reccomend NOT BUYING FROM BARTOW FORD . Anyway the 250 SUCKS GAS like it was 10cents a gallon. GM was mayle 10-11. Now with 35 inch swampers it's 9mpg. Gas bill is almost the same as payment.AC is poor for a crew cab the people in back seats have to suffer for 10 minutes in the heat till it gets tollerable. I'm going back to an f 150 . u can keep this $$$$monster

460 engine!!!! speed, strength, and comfort all in one.

Weakness:

goes through gas, but it has a 460 engine so speed

This truck does everything. It snow plows, tows a boat, goes off roading, and still is faster than any Chevy or Dodge. I have the 460 engine and I can spin the tires on dry pavement. Its tuff not to take this truck sideways on full throttle. This truck hits passing gear at any speed. Even at 80 MPH. With even small amounts of add ons this truck could easily dip into the low 13 in the 1/4 mile. This truck just keeps on taking abuse and won't quit.

Strength:

Looks good. Plenty of room and power

Weakness:

Cost for what you're getting. cheap components(switches, sensors, bearings, springs) Ford did not back up there product when they should have.

Good looking truck with plenty of room and more than enough power in the 7.3 power stroke diesel. No problem passing on hills in O.D. or pulling out jeeps up to there axles in mud. Ford saved a lot of $ though on the parts you don't notice untill they brake. I've had more components go bad in the last two years then I had in ten with my G.M. and at twice the cost. Biggest problem was when the "water in fuel" sensor didn't work and all 8 injectors scoored costing me $4,000. Even though the sensor was under warrenty, Ford would not cover the repair. Compare a G.M. throw-out bearing to a Fords. Mine seized up at 90.000 mls destroying a perfectly good clutch. Another $800 out of my pocket. Broken defective leaf spring, door switch that activates over 65 degrees, bad airbag switch, falty windshield wiper switch, trailer hitch plug hookup. have all added to the cost and bad feelings I have toward this truck and Ford.

Had G.M. siere for ten years and had no unexpected repairs. I could have bought another truck for what I spent in repairs the first 2 years I owned this Ford.

Strength:

1. The V-10 engine, I feel is a better buy than the diesel. The other trucks(chevy, etc.)do not compare to this awesome power plant.
2. I can not hear my engine runninig at a idle.
3. The instrument panel is large and easy to read.
4. The stereo is close to eye-road level.
5. For a truck of this size, the ride is comfortable.
6. This truck handles real well in bad weather.
7. The seats are comfortable.
8. Steering response is immediate. No need to over or under steer.
9. Stock Stereo system is very good.

Weakness:

1. Not the best accessories for the smoker
2. A V-10 can get very hungry.(Stick with an octane above 90 for best mileage)
3. The F250,6.75 ft bed was robbed in the fuel tank compartment compared with the other F-Series trucks.Fuel tank to small on short bed version.
4. The glove compartment needs to have a lock on it.
5. The truck should come with some type of auto-theft device
6. The ac does not have recirculating air.

I spent 1 solid month test driving (time and time again)at different dealears, heavy trucks. I wanted a truck with a good towing capacity, power, roomy and stylish.I give Ford 4 stars for producing a powerplant that is more than the V-8 and quieter than the diesel. The V-10 version of the F series truck sold me, although the F350 came in a very close second. The V-10 has good excelleration, cab space and looks. It can take hills with no problem. The best thing I can say about this truck with or without a payload is when I need to go, it does not give me a delayed response as its answer! People looking for a good travel trailer truck and not fuel minded truck need to look no further.

Strength:

Comfort, stability and gas mileage

Weakness:

Road noise, lack of available power equipment, i.e. power passenger seat, poor selection of luxury items, Bose radio, auto lamp feature with twilight sentinel, etc.

I have the V10 option with the Automatic overdrive, plus camper package. The gas mileage is impressive, during break-in I averaged 12.5 to 13 mpg with mixed city and hwy driving. I now have 4600 miles on this truck and my average gas mileage is now 14.5 to 15 mpg with mixed driving. When I loaded my 8 foot cab over camper weighing 1800 lbs, my highway average drops to 12 to 12.5 mpg. The truck pulls high mountain passes effortlessly and it handles like a dream even in high wind areas. I have owned 4 Ford 4X4 trucks since 1969 and this one is by far the best one I have owned.
