Strength:

It has lots of room. Seats are comfortable - your knees aren't bent and you get good thigh support for long trips. The benches are actually better than the front buckets. For $3k more than a mini I got v-8 and rear drive, towing capacity to spare and room for family & friends. Rear heat and air work well.

Handling in city and on hwy are good, for such a vehicle. Good directional stability and brakes (4w ABS and discs).

Weakness:

It's been only 3 months. Ford isn't tops in fit & finish. One seat needs to have it's fabric cover reattached as it keeps unhooking itself when the kids climb in. Tail light trim was improperly installed - still need to get that fixed. Trim over rear bumper is poorly designed and loose. Carpet doesn't fit well on PS in cargo compartment.

It is a good value, if you can get A-Plan price. Be sure to get the limited slip axle. The 5.4 is rated 260 HP now and better fuel economy than the 4.6. I get about 18-19 MPG with 5.4.

If you need a big travelling vehicle, want to tow a trailer and like the visibility, this is a good choice. If your driving is around town with 1 or 2 passengers, you should consider whether you really want to drive a truck, which it is.

Strength:

I have the inline 6 300 cu in. It has been very dependable. I have over 300,000 on the engine and still running strong. I can go anywhere with it. I love the space and room inside it. I throw all kinds of junk in it and it has room left over for my family of 5 plus our friends. brakes are good, never overheated, goes uphill no problem, capt. chairs very comfortable for looooong trips. great for camping out of, I made it into a camper for the winter with a bed and stove and heater. sits up high so you can go in most places others can't. I run 31 tires in the rear and 235x75x15s in the front. powersteering makes it easy to handle. I can haul all kinds of stuff in it, use it for moving furniture or going to dumps too, or even lumber yard for home-improvement projects, throw my go-kart in it, or bicycles. I was once rearended by a mini-truck that smacked into me at around 40 mph. Hardly any damage to my van and it felt like a soft nudge. The mini-truck was history, it was completely demolished, this is a stout built van!

Weakness:

It use to get 17-19 mpg on the freeway. It now only gets 11-12 mpg even after a tune-up. The ride is comfortable but noisy.. very, especially on the freeway. In high cross winds the van wanders some but controlable. There is body rust all over, the front of the cab rust right through, easy to repair tho, sheet metal welded to floor.

I paid 2300.00 for it in 1987 and it was a 1978. I never had to put much money into it other than normal wear items, and transmission rebuild after 200,000 miles. It's still running as we speak with over 300,000 and it's strong as a mule, just sucks up the gas tho.

Similar Products Used:

Dodge ram van, chevy van. Dodge vans are not dependable at all. the transmission had to be replaced twice, and the engine was toast after 70,000 miles. The Chevy van was better but ate lots of gas and body rust problem and paint peeled. I have a Honda Odessy now. Very dependable drives like a car, but certainly not as roomy as the Econo 150, however it gets 24-25 mpg.

Strength:

My 1985 Econoline 150 Conversion Van has the Winsor 351 V8. It rides nicely and has good power. I replaced the front end steering unit and it now is a bit tighter but still wanders a bit on the road. The captain chair seating is fantastic and is almost like being in my lazy boy chair at home. This van has been dependable with a good engine and good automatic transmission (c-6). I like the large size and the dependability of this van. I also like the clean lines and the appearance of this van with my new visor in front, spare tire cover and ladder in back and fancy tire rims. It is one cool looking machine.

Weakness:

The 351 is a gas hog and at $1.80 per gallon and 13 mpg I spend a fortune on gas. I also have had problems with rust and have done lots of body work to keep it decent looking. The cruise control is tempermental and erratic.

$1250.00 in 1996 and I have invested considerable cash in it. Yes, my only caution is the bad mileage and the limited trips that are affordable. I also wish that I had fuel injection rather than a carb. but the 1985 did not have fuel injection in its 351.

Better than Dodge - on a par with Chevy - better looking than an '85 Chevy

Strength:

I did a custom conversion with Explorer Vans on a E-350 7.3 TurboDiesel Extended. I installed k&N Air Filters and Munroe Gas Filled Shocks. It rides like a nice car and the new shocks are the ticket. The E-350 is the way to go if you are going to get a conversion van. The guy below should go to a Spring/Suspension Shop and put 3/4 ton coils in the front and 1 Ton springs in the rear, install Monroe shocks and buy sone new rims "16 inch" will fit on a E-150 instead of 15 inch. www.americanracing.com has nice rims. Also it pays to check your tire pressure every week, so your Van is not sloppy on the road. Shocks, Tires, brakes and wheel alignment is key for a safe van. Back to my review.... My new van is like a Limo Office. The 7.3 TurboDiesel engine has good power and gets 19 mpg city 23 mpg Hwy.

Weakness:

none, Ford makes the best E-350 ie "one ton" Van for a conversion package.

It was $ 40,000.00 US and if you can afford it, its a winner. And for people with older Vans, spend some money to restore it. Its amazing how $1000.00 for a suspension upgrade will change the ride.

Strength:

Although this is a big van, it handles with ease. It turns just as sharp as a smaller van. The enterior is very roomy with plenty of room for passengers and their gear. Reliability is a huge factor with our 7 member family and this van never let us down. Our church has used these Ford vans for over a decade and after driving theirs Ford was our only choice.

Weakness:

Does consume a lot of gasoline, but if you drive any full-size van that will be the case. The side door handle tends to weaken over time and was replaced once by us.

We purchased our van used at around $17K and have driven it for 3+ years and 140,000+ miles. It still runs like a top and we just recently sold it for $11K. I would highly reccommend this vehicle to anyone with a large family or business that needs a lot of room.

Similar Products Used:

Compared to a Dodge 15 passenger it turns easier and there is more room in the front with the engine placed slightly farther out toward the front.

Strength:

The Van has a rebuilt 4.9 I-6 That always starts. It is very comfortable and surprisingly nimble for its large size fuel economy is fair but excelleration is also excellent for the engine and van's size

Weakness:

Is very noisy near the engine. interior noise is also very bad. Brakes warp easily and the stock speakers also are very poor

I paid 1500 for my ford and am confident that it was a sound investment despite its uglyness and noise it is very solid and comfortable (when engine is off)

Dodge 1500 ram van. My ford has much better visibility out the wind sheild and excelleration is about the same even though the dodge has the 5.2L v-8

Strength:

has good pulling power. Gets used a lot for hauling heavy work trailer. Dual capacity fuel tanks more economical due to fewer stops for fuel. Easy to locate and mount racks, benches etc in cargo area. Fairly smooth ride for a work truck.Hasn't required anything beyond basic maintanence evn though frequently exceeds 2,000 miles in a month.

Weakness:

Consumes a lot of fuel due to weight and use. No frills/ bells and whistles on basic model

Overall a good price for purchase and maintanence though a very basic work truck

Strength:

Good ride, well built, dependable

Weakness:

brakes are inadequate, 15" tires tear up under weight of van with heavy conversion package

RV conversion model E150 with the Starcraft conversion. Well appointed, beautiful interior. Dependable 351 Windsor engine with 4 speed electronic overdrive transmission. 4 Captains chairs and a 3 piece fold down bench seat in the rear. The front and rear Air-conditioners/heaters are able to keep the van very comfortable. Great ride. Downside of the great ride is a tendency to be blown about some in the wind due to the soft suspension. Brakes are no up to the weight of this van conversion. The front brake rotors wrap easily due to the heat from the undersized brakes. The 15" wheels limit the availability of D and E load rated tires which are needed to handle the weight. The Starcraft conversion added a unique set of seat back restraints to keep the seat backs from reclining or folding forward during a wreck. Great safety feature. Great conversion but it would have been even better on the E250 or E350 chassis. Of course that would have deteriorated the wonderful ride.

Model Reviewed: Econoline E-350 XLT SuperDuty

Strength:

This van can seat up to 12 people, can tow just about anything, and has the strongest engine i have ever driven.

Weakness:

If you do not get the limited slip axle, you might get stuck in the winter snow.

I have a 2001 Ford Econoline E –350 XLT SUPER DUTY with a 6.8 Triton V10 that puts out 305 horsepower at 4,250 rpm’s. I think that says it all. But just in case it didn’t, I will walk you through some of the features this massively overpowered machine has. Let’s start at the front, and work our way back.
In my past reviews, you have heard me say that these cars do not have that great of power. Well, you will not hear me say that this time. Under the hood of the Econoline, it has a huge 6.8 Triton V10, that’s right, V10. This puts out 305 horsepower at 4,250 rpms. (That’s more than my Navigator!) It also delivers 420 lbs. of torque at 3,250 rpms. WOW. Let me tell you, I do not drive the van to often, but when I take it out, it flies. – And that’s when I am not “peeling out” from accidentally hitting the gas too hard! The Econoline comes standard with a four speed automatic transmission, and a 3.55 axle. It has the optional 3.55 limited slip axle. Get the limited slip axle. Trust me, You are in a big, powerful van that has only two tires capable of spinning. You will want the most grip out of both of those tires, and that is what the limited slip axle does. – It limits the slippage of the tires. On our Econoline, we decided to get the heavy duty auxiliary battery. This helps the car start easier, and allows you to run a lot of things inside the car without worrying about loosing power from the battery.
Moving on to the External features, our van has the chrome front and rear bumper, the sliding side cargo door, the privacy glass, the running board, and the keyless entry system. All of these options come in handy when you are loading or unloading the van. The bumpers come in handy because they are easy to step on when putting things inside the van, the sliding door allows easy access for loading things, or removing them. The running board also makes it easier to hop into the car. The privacy glass help in disabling others to see what is inside of your car, and the keyless entry system is convenient because it locks / unlocks the van with the push of a button. On our van, we also got a class four towing kit. This allows us to tow almost anything.
Moving on to the interior, this van consists of 2 captain chairs – both driver and passenger, (the drivers seat is powered) 2 bench rows that seat three, and a fourth bench that seats four. In the end, this van seats twelve people. It comes standard with cloth seats, radio, air condition, power windows and doors, and ABS brakes.
In conclusion, I feel that the Econoline E-350 XLT Super Duty is the most powerful car I have ever driven. Not only can it seat 12 people, but also it has a powerful V10 engine.
