Strength:

This truck has good power and great looks to match. i haven't had any problems with mine. handles very smooth..and the suspension is solid in my opinion.

Weakness:

The gas mileage could definitly use some improvement

My experience with this truck has been great so far..no problems at all. it handles great offroading and the ride is incredibly smooth. its a good looking truck with plenty of aftermarket parts to choose from. like i said before, the gas mileage is rather rough on the wallet, but it does kick out some mean power for a small V6 engine. overall i rate this truck as great and i'd buy another one. i highly recommend the ZR2 package..lotsa fun!

Ford ranger...not a horrible truck, but too much engine noise and i've seen way too many stranded on the roadside. kinda ugly too..

Strength:

I have had NO problems with my S-10. I purchased it with 78K miles on it and have no idea what the previous owner used the truck for.

Weakness:

The engine could have a little more HP.

I would highly recommend this type of truck. I am a commuter and drive the truck about 75 miles a day. The only thing I've had to replace is the battery. Everything else is stock. I've owned the truck for a year and have not had ANY problems despite the 22k miles I've put on it. Good for commuters. Everyone else should stick with a V6. I get great gas mileage on the truck.

I would definitely purchase another S-10. Well worth the money. (I'm a poor college student and don't have extra cash to spend!)

Ford Ranger. Pretty much the same. Ranger makes more engine noise.

Good ride, and doesn't feel like you'll be on your ear through a corner like in the Ford Ranger. The 2.2 4 cylinder gets great gas mileage, and teamed up with the 5 speed, it is not all that bad if you gotta get on it. Turn off your A/C for those hard accelerations.

Weakness:

Everything else. The electrical system sucks...GM wired this thing up like you are going around your ass to get in your front pocket. Check engine light (as a result of a super sensitive emission control computer) has been a problem. At less than 25k miles, I had to replace the water pump, oil pan gasket, rear axle seals at the wheels, and oxygen sensor. Thank God for the warranty. The truck gets more rattles and squeaks every day. Comparatively speaking, it is also kinda ugly.

I have had this truck for almost three years, and I can honestly say it is my first and LAST Chevrolet. The quality is just not there, especially when you can get the attention to detail and better craftsmanship in the Toyotas and Nissans, for about a grand more.

It is still head over heels better than the Ford Ranger. However, the Toyota Tacoma has everything beat by miles. Seriously, SPEND THE MONEY AND GET A TOYOTA. They last damn near forever.

Weakness:

the brakes: i went thru 3 sets of brakes, transmission: lost 2nd gear twice, alternator died

although i didn't own it long it had so many problems, i couldn't belive it when i lost my transmission the second time, i had it looked at so many times.. it was nothing electric, and the brakes went so quick, i'm a fast driver but one pair of brakes should last longer then a month, i'll probably never own a blazer/ jimmy again, theres too many problems and i dont have the income to support a useless vehicle

the 4.3L V-6

Weakness:

Where should I start? Maybe with the passenger side door that fell off of its hinges (literally) three times. There is also the time I got in the truck to find the rearview mirror laying on the floor. The factory paint is terrible. My truck started out red but ended up some weird off-maroon color. The steering column also came loose twice. The steering wheel moved and the looseness caused the gauges to be distorted and I couldn't tell what gear my transmission was in (automatic.) The service department was very argumentive about this. They claimed to have fixed it but it broke again. There was also the stuck seat belt that couldn't be used on the passenger side. I didn't get it fixed for a couple of years since I didn't usually carry passengers but then when I was getting a safety inspection sticker (that was while the truck was getting the steering column fixed the first time) the argumentive man noticed the seat belt and I had to pay $200 to get it fixed.

Well, I got rid of the piece of junk and got me a Ford Ranger. So don't buy a '91 S-10 unless you really like to try to fix junk all of the time.

I now have a 1997 Ford Ranger- there is no comparison. Even though the particular Ranger I have isn't as fancy as the S-10, it is a better truck. I haven't had any problems with it.

heating takes forever to get started..engine makes noise..stereo absolutely is terrible...4x4 stick gets jammed up.for a powerful engine..the acceleraration is ass

even tho the heating takes foerver to get going..i find it pleasurable to drive. even in the winter.paid a fair price for it and think its worth it.its at 980000 miles and is still going strong.i would reccomend it as a first car to anyone.

4.3 liter 6 cylinder has lots of power. Had a 2.8 liter 4 cylinder before that didn't have any. Getting about 18 miles per gallon. Easy to drive and to get into small spaces. Has a nice smooth ride

fair gas millage

Weakness:

Heater core went at about 18k. Paint died early so I had it repainted the rear suspention could be a little stronger. Not much for hauling large loads.

Good reliable little truck.

Looks sharp. Rides like a car. Lights come on automatically. Speed controlled volume with stereo is cool. Seats are comfortable. Has always started and run good for me.

Weakness:

Thank God for extended warranties. I've had 3 CD players in it, replaced all 4 shocks because they were leaking oil, replaced levers to tilt seats on both sides twice, 3rd door squeeks terribly, trim around windows came off, leaking oil and power steering fluid before 60K, service engine soon light is on more than it's off...some $280 valve in the exhaust system I guess is sticking. There's no room in the back of extended cab...must have 3rd door to get to it on drivers side.

Pretty pricy for the quality and durability. I do like the truck and had planned on driving it forever...but, am currently looking at something that won't nickel and dime me to death when my warranty is up at 100,000 miles. I have treated this thing like a baby...consistant maintenence, no hauling and it continues to be one thing after another. Would recommend leasing or buying new with warranty to avoid high maintenence costs. Sharp looking truck and great for people who want to buy American.

Strength:

My S-10 is a Super Sport. It has more power than what people know. The dyno test said that it produced right at 225 hp and 285 torque.Of course Ihave done some minor adjustments but not one of them has cost me a penny except for the dyno now that wasn't for free. Ithink I will keep my truck and drop an LS1 in it and make it a real super sport. My truck has a real nice stock rear end under it and Idare any stock mustang to try me.

Weakness:

The only thing that I hate about my truck is the handles on the sides of the seats that let you lean back, always break.I wish that chevrolet would ralize that we need to make a faster truck than the lightning and would just do something smart and drop an LS1 in a Super Sport S-10. That would end all of the S-10's waknesses

I love my truck because its dependable, fast, decent on gas,it's red,it's got nice factory rims on it,and theres something women like about a pick-up man.
