Strength:

Exterior styling, reliability, fun to drive

Weakness:

Wish they had a V8 option or supercharger

I have over 15,000 miles on my Colorado and so far have been very pleased with it. The only problem I've experienced was the HVAC fan motor resistor failing. Otherwise, this has been an extremely reliable truck, especially considering I bought it early in the first year of production. Although other reviewers disagree, I find fit and finish on mine to be excellent. There is a lot of plastic on the interior, but I haven't had the rattles and squeaks others describe. The 3.5 liter 5-cylinder is a good performer. It doesn't have the bottom-end torque of the 4.3 V6, but once you reach 3500 RPMs, it pulls very well. The automatic transmission works seemlessly. I chose the 3.73 locking rear differential, which I'm sure helps the performance of the truck. I'm looking forward to the rumored SS version with the supercharger or perhaps a V8 option in the future. I have the ZQ8 option, so mine sits 2 inches lower than standard and has 17 inch wheels. It handles curves very well. Yes, it's still a truck, but it can be a lot of fun to throw around. I have a crew cab, so I have a lot of interior room for a small truck. Roominess is much improved over the S-10. One complaint I have is the dash lighting. I find the green on the radio a little too bright and the white gauges a little flat. I wish Chevrolet would use red like Pontiac because it's much easier to read at night. Finally, my favorite part of the truck is the exterior styling. I can't find any area that I would improve, other than painting the lower part of the front bumper. The plastic is hard to clean. The truck looks aggressive without getting cartoonish. Even though it's been on the market a year, people still stop and check out the truck almost everywhere I go.

Still none.

Weakness:

Poor gas milage, poor workmanship. very cheap made. Wind noise is horrible, and still drives very bad.

Followup on my original review. Truck has app 11,500 miles now, gas milage still very poor, performance is pathetic, ride has not improved. It has been checked again for driving/handling problems but is ok???. I have never seen a new vehicle being traded back in as often as this one line is. WHY!! Very, Very poor quality. I am hoping the vehicle will hold together until I can trade it back in. This is the last time I will buy a vehicle the first year it is produced. I will go to an import truck as soon as I can unload this vehicle.

Strength:

the drivetrain and styling are top notch.

Weakness:

assembly in not up to G.M. standards of the past. in fact it is the worst I have ever seen in a G.M. product.Materials used are of inferior quality and the Lack of Materials is disgusting and also a lot to do with the quality issue they are so far off the mark with.

All in all this is a nice looking truck with a lot of style and some performance, unfortunately Chevrolet missed its mark in the worse place; Quality! I Purchased this truck with the understanding it would be easy on gas. It has a new 5 cylinder engine that has been bragged up by corporate as a fuel efficient go getter and yes it does have some performance it missed its concept entirely of being fuel efficient! The best mileage to date is 16.1 on pure interstate driving at 65 miles per hour. "I got 18.7 MPG with My Chevrolet 1500 4X4 with a 350.".The 19,5 gallon gas tank leaves me wondering Why? With only a 300 mile driving range I am constantly having to visit the Gas Station. The exterior is very eye catching but here begins the lack of quality. The hood has provisions for insulation but it is missing and not offered. The doors have a complete seal on the doors them selves but the door opening have only a seal 3/4th the circumference of each opening. They leak wind noise and sometimes even water. The body is made of a thin gauge metal that is not adequate enough to control the body from twisting over bumps and uneven road surfaces in spite of the fact it is sitting on a ridged frame construction. Hoses, cables and tubes routed ender the truck are installed with no attention to detail and I have had to move and fasten them better to stop them from banging against the under side of the truck. The box is also built with toy like materials that offer no real longevity of service in a real world environment . The entire insulation that is present is far inadequate and offers inferior noise suppression. The inner fender wells have a good fit but lack the fastening placements and offer the passengers in the vehicle with an array of noises such as rattles and squeaks. the endless use of bare plastic in the interior is unbelievable and also adds to the list of rattles and squeaks! All though the dash has been mentioned buy several consumer reports as being plastic like and I would tend to agree with, it is the rest of the cab and doors that I am speaking of! I realize plastic is a very cost effective and workable medium to produce lasting form and function but in the case of the Colorado this is all it was used for with no attention to the comfort aspect of a family vehicle. This truck was worked up as a family vehicle not a commercial utility truck. This thing fails in both respects and in reality what G.M. has produced is a sub-low quality utility truck with all the rattles and squeaks of a rusted out 1968 Chevy truck with half a million miles but with the looks of a sporty new family vehicle with all the comfort of a steel folding chair.

Strength:

Good gas mileage, good looks, & a little more room in a mid sized truck.

Weakness:

The 5 speed transmission is geared more like a car, which means, you really have to drive the truck like a hot rod to notice the 220 horsepower that the 5 cylinder makes, due to the fact that the redline of the motor is 6000 rpms! Also, the doors could close a little better. If you buy the Chevy Colorado with the 220 horsepower 5 cylinder motor, try to get yours with 4.10 gears if you want it to feel more truck like!

Z85 LS 4X4 REGULAR CAB 5CYL 5SPD 3.73 gears Took my truck recently on far fishing & camping trips. Gets 20 to 25 miles to the gallon with the 5 cylinder engine. I like the push puttons that allow for you to switch from 2wd hi, to 4wd hi, while the truck is still in motion. Came in useful while driving up a rocky forest road.

quality of vehicle, very cheap interior, gas milage, drivability. 4 cyl sounds like it is going to fly apart and shakes the whole truck when starting. Low end torque is non-existant

My review did not go through completely. I purchased the truck to replace 2003 GMC Sierra, 4 dr. I went with the base 4 dr, 4 cyl, 5 speed truck. I am very disappointed withn this vehicle in every aspect. It drives very poorly (has been checked by dealer) gas milage is bad, and the 4 cyl sounds like it is going to fly apart when cranking. The low end pulling power is pathetic. I have owned several 4 cyl. products, and this is THE WORST ONE YET. This vehicle will never replace the S-10 or Sonoma. I hate to see what this truck will be like or sound like when it gets 10000 miles on it. I believe this vehicle was the last one made before a 3 day weekend started.

Strength:

I5 engine, bigger than a Tacoma/Frontier.

Weakness:

Some plasticky interior parts. Not cheaply made, just isn't asthetically pleasing to the eye.

If you're looking for a great small truck, I strongly recommend the Colorado. I have the Colorado LS extended cab, I5,auto, power win, door locks,XM and Onstar. Exterior fit and finish is nothing short of perfect.Interior layout is excellent. All knobs and buttons are easy to see/use and have a good feel. The interior dash and door materials were less than optimal, but are not cheap, just a little plasticky in appearance. Seats are great, with really good support and easy to get into and out of. (really important as I am in field sales) The extended cab doors and both sides are very functional. They made making the crossover from car to pickup easy! The stiffer body on frame design is a welcome improvement. The truck goes exactly where you point it and sucks up the crevasses and potholes in these Northeast US roads like they weren't there. The I5/Automatic combo is spectacular! I get better gas mileage than a Toyota or Dodge with the same or better power horsepower/torque ratings. I looked at Nissan, Toyota and Dodge. None were comparable for price, power, features and MPG. Although the Colorado doesn't offer a V8 and has a somewhat decreased towing capacity, I would consider these minor issues. If you want a V8 or the ability to tow a 6000 lb trailer, do it right and buy a Silverado. This is the right blend of small and big truck. GM finally got it right!

Overall the truck is about what I expected. I got the 5 speed manual, mostly because I like std. transmissions automatics are just too boring to drive. The truck handels well and the 5cyl has amazing power. I was planing on getting the 4 cyl, but when I was looking for one they told me that they were not going to be making the 4cyl until April. I did not want to wait that long and I found one with all the other options I wanted so I just got the 5cyl. I have no regrets about that choice. the 4 cyl is only rated at 2 more MPG and for the extra power of the 5 cyl, it seams like a great trade off. The model I got was the 2 door sport LS. It also has the locking diffrental 17" alloy wheels. I do like the interior it seams well laid out and easy to get used to. One thing I really liked was having the horn back on the steering wheel. I have had so many cars now with the horn on one or the other side handles it was just a nice touch to get it back where it belongs. I do have one Big complaint, the truck has a Very serious Problem with axle twist and wheel hop. I have contacted the dealer about the problem and I seam to be getting the runaround. It has been over a week and I still havent even heard back from them. I hope they will resolve my problem with this. After all I did get the Sport model, I would expect better traction controll on a 20,000 dollar Vehicle, then what I am getting. Im not great at forum usage and If I can get back here I'll post an update on the problem when they make a decision.
