many. Gas milage, comfort, quality of vehicle, quality of workmanship in building vehicle (i still say mine was built on Friday prior to long weekend). Have not written in a while. Still very dissatisified. Gas milage atrocious, ride comfort pathetic. quality of truck??, very poor. You still do not drive this vehicle, just aim it. This vehicle still is no where near the S-10. Still cannot trade it as value decreases so fast. Please look at other vehicles prior to purchasing this model. Evan the dealer admits I paid too much, even after getting a pretty good deal??? I recently purchased a used S-10 (1995) which is a much better handling vehicle, getting very good milage Similar Products Used: dodge Dakota, GMC sonoma, Chevrolet S-10, Mitsubishi Mighty Max, Nissan ext. cab pu |

Strength:
Great horsepower. Torque is awesome for a 4cyl. Great leg room. Go anywhere and get out easier than most 2x4 can. Very powerful.
Weakness:
Powertrain is a little loud. Really good truck. Used it to pull a Nissan Titan out of mud. Drive around town alot. Drive from Central Florida to Georgia all the time. I love using it to hunt in. I'm really glad that Chevrolet got rid of the old style s-10 and built a new firm mid size truck with alot of power. The Colorado that I have is a 2.8L 4cyl. its really good. Its sad that it could pull out a full size truck when a 4.0 v-6 ford couldn't. Thats no lie.If you like mid sized pick up trucks I say get a Colorado over a ridgeline and ranger. not being able to use the key to unlock the truck-when i do the horn starts going off. suspension squeaks, sound system i have had my colorado for almost a year and a half. the interior is fine for me, i am not into anything extravagant. it handles well on winding roads where i live and does well at high speeds on interstates. i have taken it off road on several occasions and been able to get in and out of mud/snow/creeks with no problems.

Reg Cab
Strength:
Nice mid-size, handles fairly well once you put some real tires on it, fuel economy short of what they claim but not too bad for a truck
Weakness:
Tires must be seconds, everybody I talked to that has one of these trucks have tires that are out of round and need replaced in about 20,000 miles due to vibration and execssive tread wear. The brake pedal is sized for a toy truck, no reason , plenty of room for a normal sized one. There is no way to unlock the passenger door from outside, and no dealer option for a lock for that door. You want a lock on that side, you have to upgrade to a model that offers remote keyless entry option, so you can have one for about an addtional three grand. They do have as standard equipment a lock on the tailgate though, as if Everybody needs that. So makes you wonder if it was cost cutting or just stupidity for GM. The heat shields on the exhaust will drive you nuts making all sorts of Loud noise and popping whenever it starts to cool down, even when stopped for a stop light. And the rear suspension sounds like an old farm wagon squeaking on every bump and turn. The wind noise is unreal. The seats are extemely uncomfortable, primarily because the backs sit too straight up. Again, for another 3 grand, you can get the same seats with the adjustable/ reclining backs. Paint quality is already showing this will turn into a rust bucket, which GM has had years to correct and just doesn't do anything about it. The Colorado is a nice sized, competitively priced, well designed truck and should be one that would instill a lot of brand loyalty from first time buyers of GM products. Forget it. GM is so greedy they took this nice designed truck and cut every nickel of cost they could. You end up with a good design but low quality materials and assembly. I recommend looking elsewhere to find a company that gives you your money's worth. |

Capable 4x4, Good puller, perfect size for getting around city.
Weakness:
SEATS, wheel hop in corners, mileage, factory tires- good for tarp weights. I have had my '04 Colorado for almost 3 years now, I was one of the first ones on the road in my area, I am close friends with my dealer, he knew that I wouldn't slag him/the truck if it turned out to be a lemon. Being a country boy transplanted to the city I needed a vehicle that would handle all my weekend redneck excursions, and still fit in the rabbit hole parking garages built for Prius'. The I5 in the Colorado pulls all my toys flawlessly, and gets into the mud and fun stuff as well as any other truck, after I replaced the USLESS tires that came stock, You would think that buying the Z71 Off Road package would give you better tires than the Generals that came on it, what happened to the BF Goodrich AT's that came on the S10 ZR2's?. The mileage isn't nearly as good as the sticker calls for (I am getting @16mpg) but IT IS A TRUCK, and I don't concern myself with it to much or else I would buy aforementioned Prius, although my '96 H1 Hummer with a 6.5 Tdiesel gets the same mileage! I am a hard core GM guy so you won't hear me slag them too much, BUT, doesn't anyone else think that the seats are about the worst piece of engineering EVER? I calculated that 1/2hour driving time equals 1hour massage table time. GM has really dropped the ball on the seats. The steering wheel is a liitle to close to the dash, and the pedals are too far to the left, not to mention the BIG cost savings the engineers came up with by making the brake pedal 1/2 the size it should be. I don't have a problem with the plasticcy interior, if you want leather and wood, buy a Denali or Cadi. The overall fit and finish of the truck is about as good as any other. There is definate wheel hop, not the best handling truck (keyword truck)in the corners. I have heard people complain about a vibration/rattle from the back, this is the heat shield on the muffler, no biggie. The only repair the truck has needed was a heater motor, under waranty, and I am starting to notice some small rust spots on the paint, It has been a good truck so far (knock on wood), As of writing it has 43000 KM's and I still havn't touched the brakes, which is pretty good. Overall a very capable mid sized truck, but I am considering getting back into another fullsize with decent seats, or just driving the Hummer (the seats are great), but the death glares from my carless, citybound neighbours, indicate that it would be best to leave it on the farm for weekend driving only. squeaks and noise from motor To be honest I am happy with my truck. I have a Z85 crew cab. I guess its perfect for a small girl. My gas is great and i love how fast it moves. The handling is good. However i don't like the fact that my dash sqeaks and it wheel hops. When i speed up from a stop around town i have this odd noise from the motor. Like a vibration thats gets loud but fades and comes back like a mad weed eater etc... the seal from my dash to the windshield is coming up. it may look to plastic on the interior but it wipes clean easily. i am a suppiler to GM and there are interior paint runs and sinks (sink are from plastic too hot homing out of mold or being welded togeter)Normally no one should notice. really the only thing is the motor. Chevrolet Colorado Ext Cab Z71 I5

Weakness:
Lack of torque in 2000-2500 rpm band Lack of keyed right entry Poor owner's manual I've had my '04 Colorado Extended Cab 2WD for 11 months and am very pleased with it. Mine has only the Z71, I5 engine, and automatic options. I'm a 44 year old sports car guy, and this is actually my first truck (excluding my ex-wife's Explorer Sport Track). In my current situation, it only makes sense to have one vehicle and after a year of renting cars when I needed to go on a trip and haul people and goods, I finally sold my Miata and got this. I have dogs, and so a base interior without carpet is exactly what I wanted. I didn’t even want rear jump seats that just take up space. I started shopping for a mid-sized truck that would suit my needs but not be a gas guzzling land yacht. I also wanted limited offroad capability, but didn’t need 4WD as a suburbanite non-skier in the Pacific NW. Chrysler products are crap with no resale vale (I got burned once and only once), so a Dakota was out. Toyotas are too expensive and had no significant incentives. I think Nissans are crap too – beyond their comic book styling, I saw too many oil coated engine compartments when shopping for a used Pathfinder a few years back. So, I pretty much settled on looking for a Ford Ranger/Mazda B-series 2WD. I just barely considered the new Chevy Colorado, as I’m not sure of GM’s quality/durability, especially for a first year vehicle. But the Ranger is just too small (as of 2005, it’s actually the last small pick-up as everyone else has gone mid-size). And, while I still think they’re great trucks, they’re an outdated 15 year old basic design – other than some styling updates, it’s the same truck as my dad’s ’92). The Colorado had adequate room while still fitting in my apartment garage (I actually took it home on the test drive to check it out), what seemed a good power/efficiency balance with the I-5 engine, and finding one with the right package, a great price with the $4000 rebate. I did buy an extended "warranty", which is really an insurance policy against the engine or transmission blowing which I’d never done before, because of my lack of confidence in it being a new GM model. After almost a year and 17K miles, I’m very happy with it. The I-5 has very good power, yet I get 18-19 mpg around town and 21-22 on the highway (I’m a fast driving sports car guy, so others should do much better). It is a revvy engine and not a torque monster. It has a flat spot between 2000-2500 rpm, which unfortunately is where it is in highway driving, so it needs a bit of a boot to the throttle to make it kick down on hills or to pass (either manually or via the cruise control). But it’s smooth, and doesn’t use a drop of oil. I’ve seen no degradation of either the engine or transmission. It’s great looking, especially with the Z71’s monster tires & flares. The interior is adequately comfortable with all the features I need (although very good, I’ve yet to replace the stock AM/FM with a CD deck). Good surprises I’ve found is that the steering feel is excellent. As a sports car guy, it could be quicker, but it’s the best I’ve experienced in any American car or truck. The brake feel is also very good. And, a few times I have used it offroad (on trails), I’ve found it very capable thanks to the locker rear end and monster tires. It even worked very well in the couple of days of snow we had in the Seattle area last winter (again, 4WD just doesn’t make sense here). The only quality I’ve had were a window regulator (crank mechanism) that was replaced under warranty, and a mysterious rain leak that drips down on the tunnel next to the gas pedal which the dealer can’t find (I’m not giving up yet!). I’ve had a couple of "feature issues". With a base interior, it doesn’t have remote entry. I discovered a couple days after my purchase it doesn’t have an exterior right door lock! The dealer said that’s getting more and more common amongst manufacturers as most vehicles have remote entry. Still, it’s an incredible inconvenience to have to enter on the left and reach across to unlock the right door from the inside. And have you ever had some jerk park so close to you can’t get in the driver’s door? This will be an irritation as long as I own it. If GM is going to delete a basic feature, it should make remote entry standard! It’s also my one complaint about the dealer – they should point that out to the buyer! I honestly would have picked another truck with an interior upgrade if I’d known! The other issue is the owner’s manual is very poor. It only has a picture of the complex multi-function stalk, and no description of the how the features work. Believe it or not, only about a month ago did I figure out how the cruise control coast function works! Of course, being a guy, I could never lower myself to dropping by the dealer to ask… So, overall, I’m very pleased and have no qualms about my purchase (other then the lack of remote entry). And with a Lotus Elise in my future, it should be an adequate tow rig as well! Similar Products Used: 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Track |

Colorado LS Crew Cab 2WD
Strength:
Good fuel economy Strong engine Solid Good workmanship Roomy for 4, cavernous for 2
Weakness:
Too much hard plastic inside Could stand bigger wheels and tires Questionable traction control I've had the Colorado for just under a month and so far it's been great. I just returned from a week in upstate Vermont and the I-5 had plenty of power and torque for the mountains. The engine is noisy when cold but quiets down quickly. Gas mileage has been excellent: consistent 25 mpg on the interstate at 70 mph with the A/C on. The worst was 20 in local driving in the mountains. The cab is roomy for 4 and relatively quiet. Ergonomics are very good. The seats are firm, but that paid off after 9 straight hours of driving. Interior materials are questionable (way too much hard plastic), but fit and finish is very good. The MP3 player is a great feature for long trips: I had dozens of albums on 2 CDs. Exterior fit and finish is good as well, especially for a pickup. The standard LS 2WD 15" wheels and tires need to be a couple sizes larger. Handling is good; I had to avoid an accident once and it responded well. Ride is decent (I'm sure the longer wheelbase Crew Cab helps). Overall the truck has a very solid feel and is totally devoid of squeeks and rattles. My only complaints so far are both in the rear. I've had the back wheels shudder and skip a couple times while starting out on loose gravel; I'm not sure if the traction control is making it better, worse or doing anything at all. In addition, I swear my rear brakes locked up on a sand-covered patch of asphalt. Where was the ABS? I'll pose these questions to the dealer next time I'm there. Overall judgement: A roomy, solid, economical truck with plenty of grunt, all for $20k loaded (with GM employee discount sale). |
